Brain Freeze played Injustice: God Among Us - A Hands-On Preview

Posted 19/03/2013 by Arno PS3

Yesterday, Brain Freeze - thanks to Warner Bros., And Day One MPM - to the WB headquarters in Amsterdam Injustice: God Among Us to play the upcoming fighting game from NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat) with the characters of DC Comics in the lead. In addition to a hands-on playing experience we obtained the opportunity to make a presentation of the game by NRS-producer Hector Sanchez to attend and the man some questions. Injustice: God Among Us appears to us on April 18 on Playstation 3, XBox 360 and Wii. A Brain Freeze-review and some specials are in fact, but now you are already an extensive preview.

Gameplay

Injustice-God-Among-Us-Batman Injustice: God Among Us plays more or less as you get off the released gameplay footage would expect like Capcom's Marvel vs. Capcom series a beefed - up version of Street Fighter to Marvel superheroes, plays Injustice as Mortal Kombat 2011 with DC- superheroes. However, there is a lot more Injustice than that, but if you are familiar with the combo system of the Mortal Kombat reboot, you can immediately been very useful in this new game to work.

The control is adjusted. The main difference with the MK series is that you do not block button in this game and have just Street Fighter - Tekken-wise and backward commands to repel attacks. The attack buttons are somewhat different. The three attack buttons (light, medium and hard) link your basic combos together, while a fourth dedicated button the skill or power of your character in action. These vary by character. Thus, Lex Luthor's armor temporarily more resistant against attacks, Bane a Venom - boost is Batman surrounded by bats and Aquaman wet and slippery (making it very easy combos can slide). Wonder Woman can use the special button her shield and sword, while Nightwing are two escrima sticks together into a longer rod. Another difference with the more traditional fighting games is that each character gets two life meters in a long round - similar to Killer Instinct and Darkstalkers 3. Moved here a life meter on, you just fall down and you are right back to the next start. Are both life bars exhausted, the game is over (though it is often clear that your character still indeed alive, no gruesome finishing moves in Injustice!).

All characters use personalized super cute feet, which they include enhanced versions of special moves to perform or course can save up to cinematic super move. This provides the real eye candy of Injustice and are similar to the X-ray moves from Mortal Kombat. A new addition is the Wager System, where both characters converge and you as a player a portion of your super meter - divided into four sections - can deploy. Those who bet the most, wins the clash and obtains extra life or share a huge blow to the opponent. A mix of paper-scissors-stone clash in Namco's Soul Edge and the Free-Fall Kombat from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

Obviously, the backgrounds in Injustice vital for a good fight. NRS has done everything for the backgrounds - ranging from locations in Gotham City, Metropolis, Themyscira, the Justice League Watchtower and Hall of Justice at Ferris Aircraft and Atlantis - as interactive as possible. If you come during a battle in the range of an interactive object, then an icon appears for a certain button. How do you deal with the background depends on the power and skill set of your character. Superman will lift a car and to throw his opponent, while Batman earlier this off will interrupt or thing provides a booby trap. The backgrounds consist of different levels and of course you can - if you reverse + a heavy attack on the right side of the arena press - your opponent to hit the next level. To return to the previous location is also possible.

All backgrounds are naturally filled with fun references to the DC Universe and many famous cameos. In Arkham Asylum and Joker's Asylum levels we see some Batman villains in their Batman: Arkham game versions return. Killer Croc, The Penguin, Two-Face, The Riddler, Hugo Strange and even the great nightmare version of Scarecrow, all are of the party. Other cameos are played by Mr. Justice Leaguers. Terrific, The Atom and the Martian Manhunter. Also Darkseid, Gorilla Grodd, Giganta, The Parasite, Orion, Atom Smasher and the Green Lantern Corps, we see through the different backgrounds and win poses appear. These figures are all very clear direct from their previous game versions achieved or finished with a lot less detail than the playable characters, thereby improving their chances of Injustice-playable characters drastically decreases.

Game Modes

Injustice offers besides the classic arcade and versus mode experiences, many additional single player options. In classic fight your way through any heroes, only villains or a mix of both on the way to a boss, with some final pictures as a reward. Here are some variants, such as an endurance / survival mode (with a life meter against all characters after the other), time attack and a poisoned version, where your character to life was poisoned and gradually lost during the battles. You also have the option of creating your computer-controlled opponent and his AI to choose. So if you suffer with a specific character, you can train this. All this play free thanks to the XP points you earn during the fight. Allows you to Injustice 's version of MK's Krypt The alternative modes, costumes, production sketches etc. ransom. A tag team 2 against 2 as Mortal Kombat is not present.

In the training and tutorial modes you learn to play each character. And here it becomes clear that NRS really professional fighting game tournaments to conquer this new game. For example, every movement is the default number of frames. Ideal food for the professional fighting game player. Also useful is the way you moves you will perform during the fight can tag. This they appear on the screen and you do not always pause the game to see what that darn button combination again was.

A very nice addition is of course the mission mode, similar to Mortal Kombat's Challenge Tower and named DC's famous STAR Labs. This window gives each character a number of missions to certain movements or gameplay mechanics to learn. Often there is also a mini story to it, eg Lex Luthor kidnaps Lois Lane and Superman must save her or Bane escaped from Arkham Asylum and Batman must see him to stop. Only it's dark and you fight all the time in night vision. The rumors are true, moreover, in Injustice can be in one of the missions with Catwoman her pussy play! (Ahem) Catwoman shows here its loyal kitten Gotham City Museum intrusion. You take control of the cat below and send the creature safely through the laser security and past the guards. Also nice: you can play meow. Do this 25 times and you get a bonus. These bonuses will need later missions unlock.

For online play knew Hector Sanchez saying that NRS does everything to make the experience as smooth as possible. They are also working on a new version of the cinematic King of the Hill in Mortal Kombat, which you as your avatar into a fight could look below and also give points.

Dystopian DC Universe

The bread and butter of Injustice: God Among Us is obviously the story mode. Similar to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and Mortal Kombat 2011 the battles interspersed with cinematic pieces and give each character a number of chapters to finish. Here you alternate regularly between heroes and villains, because, as Sanchez promised, the sides of the conflict are not always clear and there will be lots of twists and turns in it. A new feature is the introduction of certain minigames and quick time events. This will progress the story never bother but can you give an extra advantage to start a fight. For example Lex Luthor comes Batman flew off and the latter has the chance to hit him a few times with his Batarangs. If you pass this, Batman starts the round with a half-life meter lead.

The core story should be familiar by now: The Joker destroys Superman's home city of Metropolis with a nuclear weapon and also ensures that Lois Lane and the unborn child from her and the man of steel die. Eventually, the world's first superhero impose a new regime that tougher action against supervillains and other forms of crime. Some Justice Leaguers go along with this, others do not, and a real, seemingly long, battle ensues between the rebels of Batman and the now almost tyrannical ruler who became Superman.

Requested from the DC storylines and Else Worlds NRS her inspiration pulled (a dystopian DC universe and a fight between Superman and Batman is of course nothing new), said Hector Sanchez that the setup familiar looks, but the studio just something completely else wanted do. They are familiar with the earlier stories, but just try to not repeat. Their version of the DC universe would be something that we have never seen before ...
injusticeAres

Ares

In the intro we see already the destruction of Metropolis and the interrogation of the Joker from the prequel comic , as well as a real battle between heroes and villains in what the early days of the "new regime" appears. Here we obtain also a first in-game look at Ares, god of war and archenemy of Wonder Woman. If we are fairly detailed design view, we may conclude that he is indeed a playable character will be.

We start, however, fairly quiet with Batman and the first chapter leads us to a clear back here living Joker and his cell in Arkham Asylum, where a first fight with Deathstroke will take place ...

New Tricks

The build of the game we played were not all confirmed playable characters. Those with whom we have been able to get Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Nightwing, Cyborg, Raven and Green Arrow on the side of the heroes. Lex Luthor, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Bane, Deathstroke, Catwoman and, now officially confirmed, Black Adam, on the side of the villains. Black Adam is indeed seen in his traditional suit, the Bald Adam version from a previous promo promises to be his alternate costume. Were absent Shazam, Sinestro, Hawkgirl, Doomsday and, most likely, Ares.

Further new facts and speculations we have the ease to put a row:

Black Adam is confirmed, Ares we may be quite certain, and our question "Killer Frost and Captain Cold?" Replied Hector Sanchez "no comment", but it is clear that at least one of the two in the game is.

Green Arrow can effectively shoot enemies in the knee, internet meme enthusiasts go this lot on the go.

Besides Superman: Red Son - and Blackest Night -DLC outfits looks NOS still to many other famous DC story lines for different characters: Flashpoint (2011), Superman: Godfall (2004) and Batman: Knightfall (1993) were already mentioned.

Similar to Goro and Kintaro from Mortal Kombat, there seems to be a provisional non playable, great mid-boss in the game to sit. Earlier expectations pointed to Doomsday (seen in the background of Superman's Fortress of Solitude), but after his confirmation as a playable character we tend now to Gorilla Grodd or even Bizarro.

Hector Sanchez stated that the boss is probably who you think, but in a more powerful alternative version. Presumably this is so Superman, but maybe in a constant powered-up mode (think Jin Kazama in Tekken 6) or after a complete metamorphosis.

The producers are aware of Justice League: Task Force, the first fighting game around the Justice League from 1995, and this can be seen in some similar movements (which are also the forces and gadgets of the characters are determined). The movements of the characters already in predecessor Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe were are somewhat recognizable, but were adapted to the new, faster gameplay. To give you an idea: Superman's heat vision was JL: Task Force a short fireball in MK vs DC a long radius and Injustice is an upward jet.

Depending on how the game is doing, see NRS definitely sit with Injustice - next Mortal Kombat - a second successful fighting game franchise to build. For the first game looked largely on the known heavy hitters in the DC universe, but in a possible sequel to much more obscure characters are introduced.

NRS seeks the opinions posted on the internet is not too hard to follow, but I would like the wishes of the fans on DLC characters grant. These characters, however, will stand apart from the story. No expansion packs for the story mode so, but extra missions STAR Labs à la Red Son are possible.

There seems to be no appropriate dialogue à la Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or The King of Fighters series when two characters with a history (eg Batman and Nightwing), fight each other. For this we have only the story mode.

Graphically Injustice is very good, but the transitions of cinematic pieces in the story mode to the actual gameplay happen not always spotless. While the playable characters are very detailed, we can not say the same for some background figures also in the gameplay are processed. Catwoman's cat is a very good example.

I didn't really see anything new that we didn't find out today on the stream but idk i might missed something while reading that

For one, Ares is all but confirmed, we have some mini-bosses to fight against who are not Doomsday and third we can expect new DLC based on Superman:God Fall and Batman:Knightfall (Knightfall being my personal favorite)
