DLC characters occasionally greyed out and non selectable?

What gives? Every now and then, offline obviously, I cannot select my DLC characters. They're there, but they're non selectable....in single player, single fight ? Anyone?

I've only experienced this online.

I also have this problem but I have not purchased any of the DLC characters who are greyed out. I have Scorpion and Batgirl on mine.
