Any Shang Tsung players out there?

I feel like I'm the only Shang Tsung player on PS3 here. Is there anyone else who who can play decently with Shang Tsung online? Got any tips for a fellow Shang Tsung player on how to deal with fighters that are right in your face, putting up block strings & fighters that just block & punish?(other than just grabbing ofcourse) Thanks!
 
If you're a Shang player props to you! I've got him figured out without his specials. Now to learn his specials and integrate them. He's hard to play with but so versatile. So many fireballs!
 
Shang tsung is my second (after Liu kang). If they are in your face, it's perfect, because u can start comboing his as$. I'm on xbox, so il tell u the xbox controls, and you figure out the button translation to ps3 lol. Sorry cbf doing it myself.

My favourite combo is : back+X, Y, X, B.

But instead of the B at the end, I usually do: back+X, Y, X, then down+up+B straight away. So instead of the last kick, he ends with a fireball from under them, and then you can continue doing combos, or more fireballs from there. You can actually do it with any combo (replacing the last hit with a special move).

There are 3 hit combos that do more damage than the one above, but I like this one because it has a more forgiving timeframe to branch into advanced combos
 
I faced this Shang player that keeped spaming his frontal skullball over and over. Instantly killed my excitement of finally facing someone other than Smoke, Scorpion, Raiden and Ermac.
 
I tried him out as my main and thought he was too slow and with only fireballs as specials he was very predictable.
 
Im glad there arent alot of Shang Tsung players out there, I played one right before PSN went down, it was not a pretty sight
 
shang is not pretidctable he is a mind game character he relies on his skulls u need to know where to use each one never used him but my friend on psn has is main he tryed to teach me but i didnt like shang very much almost no melee capabilities
 
Honestly I don't get why people complain that he can't turn into anyone anytime. I like it the way it is, because it stops people from choosing him and keep transforming into scorpion/noob/ermac in cycles and spamming their different moves. Plus I love transforming into the other player and beating them with their own player :p

It also encourages you to master SHANG TSUNG and not just keep transforming into another character you've mastered

Thanks for the info, got any tips of what to do if you're forced to block with Shang Tsung & the opponent block strings you? I have it happen to me where I'm blocking & the opponent hits me a few times while I'm blocking, jumps over & air punches me, hits me a few more times, & repeats. I've tried punishing it with an uppercut but the crossover screws me up. :(
 
I fought one shang tsung player so far and i've played over 300 matches. He was brutal too, I guess he just wanted to be different and pick a character that people rarely use lol

Who's complaining that Shang Tsung can't turn into anyone anytime? Where are these guys?:viking:
But yeah, I love beating an opponent with their own fighter too, especially when I beat them with their own X-Ray. :twisted:

In that case, as soon as u get the chance, even a split second, do down+up+Y (fireball from above). It will hit him unless he jumps AWAY from u, which is what you want. If it does hit him though, the temporary stun opens him up for very punishable combos ;)

They're all over the place in different threads lol

On that note, I've seen heaps of character threads on this site... But someone needs to make a Shang tsung one

I've been thinking of making a Shang Tsung Thread & possibly a Kano thread either this week of next week, I just wanted to get some good info first on some strategies with these fighters.
 
Try using back+X, Y, X, B and use a far away ground skull, after that enhance the ground skull step backwards a little bit and soul steal. Pretty good combo and it has a wtf value :)
 
hm im gonna have to try some of these combo's, i like playing as shang (purely because of how the fireskulls look)

the only combo i have learn't from him so far is (xbox control's sorry) b,a, back-b (iirc he should knee them, kick them then round house kick) followed by a far groundskull, then enhance ground skull (will carry them over to you) and when they are almost above an upwards fireskull (sometimes enhance, 2 can drop down and hit them in the air) for a cool looking combo, but i dont think it does much dmg

my main problem with shang right now is, that's basically all i know, if i fight someone who keeps a distance i cant ever bring myself to spam his ground/forward/upward fireballs because it feels too much like spam -.- but ill be keeping my eye on this thread for more combos and strats ;)

*edit* oh, also, am i the only one who will go into practice as shang vs shang, soul steal, do a.. a,y,a-xray (think thats the combo, gotta admit been a while since i played with him *shameface*) and see it do (damn cant remember but i remeber the dmg being pretty sweet)
 
ive tooken a break from using shang tsung but im proly gonna get back into him again...

ive figured out some cool simple combos like forward jump, 1, b1, 2, 1, 3, ground skull(far), EX Ground Skull, Up Skull
