1.) Scorpio, Don't listen to people about patches. Always use the lastest patch, and make sure the game is 100% up to date. Why? Because all the real players and serious players play post patch. Things are post patch for a reason. Balance. Everyone above covered this.
You're going to lose out on any SERIOUS players from the tourney scene if you do pre-patch tourney.
2.) Don't EVER EVER unhype your tournament like you did in this thread. Don't talk about how last time it was only you and 1 other guy and your girlfriends/wives. IT will make people untempted to drive out to your tournament if they have the slightest hint that your turnout is going to be bad. It's not lying to not give bad information. If someone asks you what the tournout will be just tell them you're not really sure. Because you technically aren't. You're going to drive away the very people you want to come to your tournament if you talk about bad past experiences.
3.) Maximum set ups. You can never have too many really. obviously it's maximum, if you can have 1 system per 2 players at your tournament so people can play 24/7. But 1 setup per 6 is acceptable. I wouldn't let it go any higher. So encourage people to bring set ups. TVs as well if you have to.
4.) look up the latest Tournament rules.
Kratos = banned: Because Xbox players can't practice against him.
Kratos Stage= banned: it randomly shakes you don't want random factors in your game.
Streets = Banned: Random drive by cars will for a split second blocking your view of your characters and this could possibly be the difference between win or lose.
I believe Hell stage is banned but I'm not sure the reason.
Anyone else got things to add?
You should do double elimination Guaranteed.
You might even want to do pools, so people can play more games.
No one wants to drive a couple hours to a tournament and if they suck. Lose 2 back to back games and they are out of the tournament. Pools allows people to get about 5-6 games in before they are knocked out. making the experience more fun from beginners. If you're confused about pools I can explain better.
5.)Do you have a laptop? and what program do you use for Brackets?
6.) Post the rules in your Original post. and make sure it's up to date on standard tournament rules. You don't want some guy coming to your tournament and destroying everyone with a glitch/a loop you didn't know about. And it's 100% legal because you didn't post it as banned.
7.) Also explain the pay outs. 1st place is getting what % of the pot.
like
1st: 65%
2nd: 25%
3rd: 10%
ect ect.
Also explain how the best 2 of 3 works. It's like best 2 of 3, best 2 of three. Winner has to stay the same character for the next round.
Finals should be best of 5, for more accurate finals results.
IT is your tournament. run it like you want.
these are just tips to grab attention.
especially don't talk about bad experienes in turnouts on Test your might.
