IGN got an exclusive look at the upcoming Skarlet DLC for Mortal Kombat (2011). The article announces that her DLC will become available next week Tuesday, June 21st, 2011. You can watch IGN's Skarlet video vignette below, which also teases Rain and a mystery fourth character as future DLC beyond the already announced Kenshi.

Also discussed in the article is talk of free DLC compatibility packs. These will be necessary to play against DLC owners online if you don't want to pay for the DLC character. These packs will not enable the use of the character yourself, but you can play against those who do own it. To entice fans, these packs will come with extra goodies. The Skarlet DLC packs come with Sektor and Cyrax classic Mortal Kombat 3 skins that were leaked last month.

Update: NetherRealm Studios' Kommunity Manager Rigo Cortes just shot us over renders for the new Cyrax and Sektor Classic Costumes.

We just got sent an important press release related to Mortal Kombat (2011) DLC. It appears they are taking a page from LA Noire and offering customers a discounted "Mortal Kombat Season Pass" to get all four DLC characters for a discounted price of 1200 Microsoft Points, a 400 Point discount over buying them each individually. Also, it was announced that compatibility packs will be offered for free, which include the klassic Sektor and Cyrax skins.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios are excited to announce the Mortal Kombat Season Pass which will offer Mortal Kombat fans an added incentive to buy all four new Add-on warriors at one time for a reduced price instead of when purchasing them individually. The first Mortal Kombat downloadable warrior, Skarlet, will be available for download starting June 21st and will be followed by Kenshi, Rain, and an unannounced new entrant to the Mortal Kombat tournament! Each warrior will come with a full move set, a ladder arcade story ending and two fatalities.

Available for purchase starting June 21st, the Mortal Kombat Season Pass will allow users to buy all four downloadable warriors as a package for 1200 Microsoft points. Each individual warrior can be purchased when they release for 400 Microsoft points. Each warrior will become unlocked for download as they become available throughout the summer.

Further, in order to allow for seamless online play with the new downloadable warriors, free compatibility packs will be required to download with the release of each new warrior. As an added incentive, each compatibility pack will come with two FREE klassic skins – the first of which are being released with Skarlet will be Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 inspired Cyrax and Sektor. Gamers who purchase the Mortal Kombat Season Pass (or individual Add-on content) will automatically get the free klassic skins when they download each warrior. Those who do not purchase the Mortal Kombat Season Pass or the Add-ons, will be able to download the compatibility packs for free and have access to the klassic skins as well.

Please note: The Mortal Kombat Season Pass is only available for purchase on Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE. PlayStation users will also have full access to the individual DLC warriors (for $4.99), the compatibility packs, and the FREE klassic skins.

We are not sure why this is not coming for PlayStation 3 users, as LA Noire's Rockstar Pass is cross platform, but it's nice to see the Xbox 360 getting some exclusive love.

Thanks to fraysol for the tip!

A. By all means, YES! This is an incredible deal that is only available for a limited time. You are basically getting one character for free by pre-paying for three DLC characters with the Kombat Season Pass. I see no negative to this deal, besides being only available on the Xbox 360.

A. So far there isn't any new Achievements with the 1.02 patch, but it is possible that they may add Achievements with future DLC patch. We have contacted NetherRealm for clarification of any future achievement plans.

Q. I'm getting desync errors when playing online since the 1.02 patch.
A. There is an known issue with the classic skins and an official fix is in the works. We are told by member Fr0zen-Kold that it work better if you just avoid using the second color on the Klassic/Retro Skins (hitting Start) until the fix is available. Also be sure to download the Skarlet Compatibility Pack if you don't plan on buying Skarlet but you still want to play online, this also may reduce likelihood of finding good matches online.

A. We do not have a confirmed moves list at this time, but keep an eye on our Skarlet Character Move Page for information as it becomes available.

Q. What are the other DLC Characters?
A. They have confirmed Kenshi and Rain as future DLC. The fourth DLC character is still unknown at this time.

Q. When does the next DLC characters get released?
A. The release schedule is unknown at this time, but we'd guess that you'll see just about one new character per month for the next four months.

Q. Will Skarlet (or any future DLC) affect the "My Kung Fu is Stronger" Achievement / Trophy?
A. It's unknown at this time, but we have contacted NetherRealm for clarification of this.

Q. Will future DLC Packs also come with new skins for existing characters?

Mortal Kombat (2011) players in the EU were rightfully upset when the PSN store content update was released yesterday. Skarlet was nowhere to be found and the MK Classic Ninja Skins pack was listed at prices much higher than promised. Suffice it to say, WB Games UK has been responding to these issues on Twitter (here and here) and by releasing a statement on the events.

Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, the Mortal Kombat Skarlet DLC will not be available to PSN users in Europe until next week. We apologise for any inconvenience but assure fans that Skarlet and her fatalities are on the way.

To clarify the posted price of the Classic Skins pack on PSN is incorrect and is currently being rectified to £3.19 for UK users and €3.99 for European users.

All users will have access to the compatibility pack and free classic skins - Cyrax and Sektor - once Skarlet is available.

Those hoping to play as Skarlet in the EU on PSN, will need to be patient as WB Games UK and Sony rectify the situation.

Update: Those who have purchased the Klassic Skins Pack at the higher price will be refunded the difference automatically. (WB Games UK on Twitter)

According to ComingSoon.net Warner Premiere will be releasing Mortal Kombat Legacy for download on iTunes, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on July 18th, 2011. While Mortal Kombat Legacy is currently available for watching on Machinima.com for free, it is likely there will be a reasonable cost to own the series. We also hope that this means that a DVD and Blu-ray version of the series along with behind the scenes features are also on their way someday as well.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy: This original live-action new media series from Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution is directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame); stars Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager) as Sonya Blade, Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) as Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs and Darren Shahlavi (300) as Kano; is based on the video game Mortal Kombat, created by Ed Boon; and takes gamers deep into the history of the warriors they know and love. Mortal Kombat: Legacy can be viewed on Machinima.com and will be available for download via iTunes, Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network starting July 18.

Also in the article, it is mentioned that Warner Bros will be giving Comic Con attendees special hotel key cards for their various properties as part of a larger hotel "key party". If we're interpreting the article correctly there will be a special Mortal Kombat Legacy keycard. Mortal Kombat collectors attending may want to get one of these cards, as they'll likely to become a rare collectors item in the future.
