A new image of everyone's favorite "psycho girlfriend" Mileena has been posted up over on the Mortal Kombat Tab of the official Mortal Kombat Facebook page. We've attached a thumbnail below, but head on over the Mortal Kombat Facebook Page to see it in it's full glory.

Also over the weekend some lucky Game Informer subscribers got their hands on the February 2011 issue early. Below is the cover of the issue that features the upcoming The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim:

Inside this issue is a lot of Mortal Kombat (2011) news and brand new information. The new character models for both Jade and Goro are shown for the first time along with details about the characters like how Goro will be an unplayable boss like the previous original arcade games. Other details were revealed as well, like they are planning to do a 360-only character to counter the PS3-only Kratos but they had no announcements to make at press time.

The issue should be available to non-subscribers at your local GameStop sometime during the next two weeks. International fans should contact Game Informer directly to purchase a copy of the magazine. Let us know in the comments below once you get your hands on the issue!

Earlier today, @MK_XTRA on Twitter discovered more evidence of the Mortal Kombat: HD Kollection that we confirmed last summer. The resume of a freelance 3D Artist lists the game as a project that he did props and environment art for.

March 2009 - Present
Self-Employed | Freelance 3D Artist
Remote contract work for Liquid Development, Streamline Studios, and numerous independent game developers. Major projects includes prop and environment art for Doom 4, Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection and Firefall. In addition, architectural visualisation projects for GSA Architects and Virteer.

Later on in his resume he lists the title information directly, which only lists the PlayStation 3 as the platform the game is coming out on. We still hope that Warner Bros. is looking to make this a timed exclusive and later release it for Xbox 360 owners as well.

Title: Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Platform: Playstation 3

One of the videos on his demo video showcases his 3D environment work, which is very realistic looking. It's likely they are re-creating many of the games' stages for this HD remix, as much of the older stage artwork would need to be recreated for the larger HD resolutions.

Mortal Kombat 3 was the first game where they started modeling the stage environments in 3D. That means the backgrounds and some objects for the older games would have be re-created in 3D where old usable 3D models no longer existed. This process was recently done to varying degrees of success by EA Mobile in their iPhone port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 where some stages look very close to the originals and others look drastically different.

Since the November 2010 date came and went it was discovered that both Blockbuster and FYE both have a early March 2011 release dates listed. That would be a good time to release it if it does still include a playable Mortal Kombat (2011) demo as the leaked cover art previously revealed. But some international retailers are listing the game for June 2011 release date. So time will tell on this, as development of games are no easy task, and we'd rather them make it right instead of rushing it. We are sure Warner Bros will announce it once they are ready.

Thanks to KornKombat for bringing this news bit to our attention. And thanks to fraysol, ShawnBronald and Morbyr for the newer rumored release dates.

Update 1/12: With no surprise the job listings have been removed from the artist's website. At his request we also have removed links to his name and website due to being contacted by far too many MK fans begging for information. So we highly request fans don't try reach out to him as he'd be unable to mention the project officially due to any work related NDA he would have signed.

It's time for another Mortal Kombat (2011) character vignette video. GameSpot just posted Mileena's "Behind The Mask" Vignette detailing a bit of Mileena's torrid history and viciousness. You can watch it below:

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

If you were wondering what song is played during the vignette, the song is titled "Mileena's Theme" and is done by LA based musician Jennifer Lee aka TOKiMONSTA. "Mileena's Theme" is now available on both iTunes for $1.29 and Amazon for $0.99. The song appears to be labeled as a single for an upcoming album called Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired By the Warriors implying this wont be the last song we see. Sounds like Warner Bros is looking to reproduce the success of the Mortal Kombat movie soundtracks with a game inspired soundtrack, I for one can't wait to hear the rest of it.

Update 1/14: We have just received the Press Release that goes along with the vignette. The press release below goes into more details on the upcoming "Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired by the Warriors" album which is coming out in April 2011 along with the game.

She takes the evil clone role seriously!

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios are bringing gamers a stylized new video giving fans a deeper look at Mileena and why she entered the Mortal Kombat tournament. This abominable clone is the ruthless and unstable creation of Shang Tsung modeled after Kitana under Shao Kahn’s direction. Shaped to be both beautiful and lethal, Mileena draws in her unsuspecting prey with her looks and then savagely kills them without remorse.

The video features "Mileena’s Theme" a song created by noted DJ and Producer Tokimonsta. WaterTower Music and Teenage Riot Records are excited to announce the album release of "Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired by the Warriors." This album of songs inspired by the Mortal Kombat characters is executive produced by JFK of MSTRKRFT and will be released in April 2011. Fans can now download the 1st single, "Mileena's Theme" by Tokimonsta, on iTunes and Amazon.

Mortal Kombat is the most brutal installment of the landmark fighting game to date for release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in 2011. The game is being developed by the newly re-named NetherRealm Studios, led by Mortal Kombat creator and creative director Ed Boon.

Last night Bloody Disgusting broke the news that the well received Mortal Kombat Rebirth short film is being made into an online web-series. Bloody Disgusting has an excellent track record for Mortal Kombat film related news, as they were the ones who broke the news of the Rebirth script being penned by Oren Uziel a year ago. Here is what they revealed about the new web-series:

Bloody Disgusting learned that director Kevin Tancharoen - who directed the awesome online short - will return behind the camera for a 10-episode web series dedicated to the popular video game. Penned by Tancharoen, Todd Helbing, and Aaron Helbing, star Michael Jai White leads the cast as "Major Jackson 'Jax' Briggs. Shooting will take place in Vancouver this coming February. Contested expected to be cast are: Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and of course Scorpion. No release date is planned, and there's no word on that R-rated remake. The only plot details we could conjure up is that a few Earthlings will fight to save the planet from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, two Gods ruling over parallel universes, or something to that effect.

With filming starting next month, we would expect this series to kick off later this year. It's possible the episodes could start showing up sometime in April to coincide with the release of Mortal Kombat (2011). It is really starting to sounding like 2011 will indeed be the Year of Kombat with the largest marketing push behind a Mortal Kombat game since Mortal Monday back in 1993.

Here is the original Mortal Kombat Rebirth short below:

Over the weekend our friends at the premier arcade destination in Chicago, Galloping Ghost Arcade, had a few small tournaments for Mortal Kombat 2, Killer Instinct and Super Street Fighter IV. A surprise guest, none other than Shang Tsung himself, Dr. Philip Ahn M.D., showed up to visit some fans. Here is a picture we took of him posing next to the Mortal Kombat 2 cabinet:

Among the chaos I got a few minutes to talk to him and pick up a bit of history on his involvement in Mortal Kombat 2. He told me how he got the role when his friend and former training partner Ho Sung Pak (Liu Kang) introduced him to Ed Boon while touring the game studio. Ed liked his look and asked him to be in the game as the younger version of Shang Tsung. The filming of his role of Shang Tsung was less than five hours long. He also joked that he can actually not grow a goatee like Shang Tsung, the one they used for filming in-game was all makeup. Also if any of you were wondering what type of doctor he is, he said he's a Family Practitioner in Chicagoland. Imagine having him as your doctor, would he look like someone else each time you went to see him?

Also on hand was Marcus Leshock from WGN, who did an excellent segment on both the arcade that also features a small interview with Dr. Philip Ahn MD as well. You can check the segment out below:

One of the co-owners of Galloping Ghost Arcade, Doc Mack, told me they have grand plans for the upcoming Mortal Kombat (2011) game including a massive custom cabinet along with many tournaments. So be sure to become a fan of them on Facebook to keep up to date with their latest happenings including updates on their own arcade fighting game Dark Presence. We will also be announcing any future tournament details here on TRMK as well.

Thanks to reader @SimonDIvanoff for uploading the WGN video.

UPDATE: Warner Bros. PR for the EMEA Region has stated that the information we've posted is "inaccurate."

We have not announced plans for a European Kollector's edition.

The story has been updated to reflect that these details are merely what a retailer has published and may not be completely accurate.

While North America is basking in the glow of their Scorpion and Sub-Zero bookends, the European market (EMEA) sits in jealousy awaiting their market's plans for special editions of Mortal Kombat (2011). It appears that the details of a Kollectors Edition, dubbed the "Fire Edition", have been leaked on South African retailer Take 2's website. The crown jewel of this edition is a statue featuring Sub-Zero being speared by Scorpion.

According to the product listing page on Take 2's website, included in the alleged Fire Edition is as follows:

  • The Game

  • A Figurine

  • An exclusive SteelBook™

  • A collectible Art book

  • DLCs including an exclusive Mortal Kombat classic costume skin and avatar costumes.

This is not an official announcement by Warner Bros., merely a retailer listing with details not known publicly. No word yet on a Tournament Edition featuring an authentic arcade stick, but until an official announcement from Warner Bros. is made, those details are still a mystery and any of this could change. Thanks Mark K!

It's Mortal Monday again, and we've got a few items for you today.

First is earlier today Warner Brothers confirmed the story that ran last week about MK Rebirth turning into a web series. The series does in fact begin filming soon and will be available on Amazon and iTunes stores late spring or early summer.

Here's a bit of the press-release:

Warner Premiere today announced development of a live-action digital series based on the best-selling Mortal Kombat videogame franchise. Directed by Kevin Tancharoen, known for his popular unofficial fan short Mortal Kombat: Rebirth which garnered over 10 million views online, and in conjunction with the upcoming Mortal Kombat videogame, this action-packed, digital series will take gamers deep into the history of warriors they know and love such as Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Liu Kang. Shooting for the digital series will take place in Vancouver starting in early February.

Available this spring through online digital retailers from Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, the Mortal Kombat digital series is an anthology of multiple live action shorts, each providing never-before-revealed insights into characters featured in the upcoming videogame as well as the game’s universe. Additional details, including casting, will be announced in the coming weeks.

NetherRealm Studios' Community Manager Rigo Cortes sent over some new concept art to the Mortal Kombat fan sites that was featured in some recent gaming print magazines. Today we get a look at the concept art for Sektor and Cyrax from Mortal Kombat (2011)!

Rigo also sent along a picture of a rare piece of Mortal Kombat history that NetherRealm Studios recently acquired with a bit of help from us. A friend sent me a link to the head of Goro from the Mortal Kombat movie on the website PropStore.com. I figure this was an item that NetherRealm Studios would like to keep for their collection and sent it along to them. They purchased it, and now Rigo sent us an image to share of the head. Hopefully one of the programmers at NetherRealm Studios will get it powered up and working again.

Also those on Twitter, be sure to thank Rigo on Twitter for all his hard work for the Community as today is Community Manager Appreciation Day!

TRMK reader, ZoopSoul, who writes for IGN Movies has an exclusive story about the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie Blu-ray releases in the US. He has learned that both movies are being released on Blu-ray along side of the video games on April 19th, 2011. An extra bonus is that these editions will contain exclusive codes to unlock a Jade Klassic Costume in the PlayStation 3 version of Mortal Kombat (2011). Seems Xbox 360 owners are out of luck on this deal, likely because they can easily assume more than likely your Blu-ray player is a PlayStation 3.

This US release seems to have a few more features than the Barebones Canadian releases from last year as it's including a copy of Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins. Here is a rundown of the special features.

The releases will contain bonus materials and extra features, and will both be available for the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) of $19.98.

The Mortal Kombat Blu-ray will feature the following bonus materials:

-- Animated piece, Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins
-- Theatrical Trailer
-- Digital Copy
-- HD Mortal Kombat Videogame Trailer

The Mortal Kombat: Annihilation Blu-ray will feature the following bonus materials:

-- Theatrical Trailer
-- Digital Copy
-- HD Mortal Kombat Videogame Trailer

Who will be picking these movies up as well on "Toasty Tuesday"? Personally I'll be grabbing the first movie only, no need to relive the horror that Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was again.

Update 2/3/2011: A reader just sent us a look at an ordering page ad for the movie release, that includes a small look at what may be Jade's classic outfit. This lists a "order by" date which is for retailers, so don't worry about missing out if you wait until release day. You can check it out the ad below:
