Signs point to yes on Noob.com. During this year's E3, Capcom showed an impressive Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Revival Edition on Gameboy Advance, which caught the eye of TRMK staff and warranted a recommendation to Boon. SSF2T:RE showed the potential of the Gameboy Advance's hardware and immediately sparked ideas of a 2D Mortal Kombat title on GBA. It seems like Ed is pondering which game in the series to bring to the GBA first. Hit our message board's poll to voice your opinion on which version of MK you'd like to see on Gameboy Advance!

Thanks to Jonathan Grizzle for the heads up that IGN PS2 has a story about Midway's Gamers' Day 2001 event in San Diego, CA that has the first pictures of what looks like pre-rendered concept art from MK5, or as they called it the "next-generation Mortal Kombat game". We can't say these are in game shots until we get official word that they are. The one picture of Scorpion and Jax is exactly 640x480, the same resolution some current game systems are running at. Either way, the pictures look really good and will be a great judge on what the "next-generation Mortal Kombat game" game will look like once released later in 2002. According to the bit of information from the event that IGN.com got, MK5 will most likely hit the PlayStation 2 first, and also is still being aimed to "reinvent" the series.

The next-generation Mortal Kombat game was only shown on video and it was only a clip of Scorpion alone in 3D environment. The developers are aiming to "reinvent" the genre when this game ships sometime in 2002 for multiple next-generation platforms with PS2 most likely being the lead SKU.

Today we received a copy of the original pictures that were handed out to the press at yesterday's Midway Gamers' Day 2001, which has nothing really different, except no IGN logo. We did learn that these pictures are in fact renders of the actual in-game models within actual in-game enviroments, not actual screenshots. Soon, we will be seeing even more mindblowing screenshots coming in the near future.

So here are the pictures again, click on a picture to open up a new window with the full size image in it. The pictures are upwards of 120kb in size, so they may take some time to load on slower modems.
