The Official web site for The GRID has is now temporarily at
noob.com. It will be moved to
TheGRIDgame.com at a later time. The website was designed by The GRID artists John Vogel and Tony Goskie. The site contains a TON of information and artwork from the upcoming game. It contains character info, weapons, levels, and much more.
For those who don't know, The GRID is a new virtual reality game show style FPS shooter from the Mortal Kombat design team that combines the FPS genre with the fighting genre. The game should start showing up in all arcades by August.

Well it seems our wait is over before it really began for sound emulation for
Mortal Kombat 2 in
MAME.
Ernesto Corvi and
Aaron Giles have just recently gotten sound to work for
MK2's MAME driver. But speed, is going to be a problem for most of us out there. The game being how detailed it is, and the driver being in early stages,
will only run about 90% on a P3 966mhz during game play with sound enabled. This is probably only a temporary situation as the driver will probably be optimized in time, as the original MK1 sound drivers were in time. The release date for the next beta of MAME is unknown at this time. Here is the quotes from
RetroGames,
MAME WIP: After fixing something that turned out to be a CPU hog, MKII is getting 90% on a PIII/966 during gameplay and 100% during the attract mode, with sound enabled. Hopefully, it'll be sped up a bit more before its release. Maybe now is a good time to upgrade my paltry PII/266 :) - atila
MAME WIP: Sound emulation has been added to Mortal Kombat II, courtesy of Ernesto Corvi and Aaron giles. Don't get TOO excited though, as even a 1Ghz PIII does not run MKII full speed with sound emulation enabled. Aaron's latest update also fixes the crashes in NARC (among other things). - atila

ps2.ign.com has posted a
preview
of
The Grid over at their site. It doesn't have any new information, but it does contain many new high quality screenshots. It does allude to a PS2 port of the game, which is probably inevitable based on Midway's porting policy. Lets just hope that all console/PC ports that Midway plans for
The Grid will have internet play support instead of just local multiplayer. Thanks to Jeff Jewitt for the info.
Check the preview out.

Richard Divizio (pictured at right) was supposed to chat with MK fans tonight at 9:00 Eastern / 6:00 Pacific, but he was a no show. No one knows what happened, but he never made contact with any of the chat coordinators in the last 2 weeks. We will try to reschedule him, so stay tuned for future Fight Night Chat updates.

Today
MAME v0.37 Beta 5 was released and it has added not only MK2 emulation with sound, but MK3 and UMK3 has been emulated with sound. Again the CPU speed needed to emulate the games with sound will probably be great. Check out our friend TonyD's site
EmuLition for MAME and other related emulation goodies.

Well it's too late, the auction is over and went for a measly $93. You too could have owned your own part of MK2 for under $100.
There should be a Reptile replica costume up by the end of the week, look for pics of it here.
