Anyone getting Windows 10? The NT version will be 10.x instead of 6.x like they did with Windows Vista to Windows 8.1

Bill Gates and Ed Boon at the same convention representing their creations would be epic.

there was a windows 9?? last one I heard about was windows 8.
Yeah they skipped 9.
Still as of this day, they haven't answered as why they did so.
Looks like I was wrong. Thanks for correcting me, RIPLiuKang.

I'm still on windows 7 but I would like to change from it now. Although I'll wait for reviews of it.

They skipped from 8 to 10, because the era of Windows 95/98 was known as the Windows 9x OS era. So I believe they refused to go to the number 9 in case it gets lumped in with those long outdated OSes.

Usually I stay away from newer Windows Operating Systems until they refine it and make it a lot better. It's one thing life taught me is to never buy anything at launch.

I'll stick with Win7 for now.

To save time, some third-party Windows desktop developers used a shorthand to check the version name (not number) of Windows they were installing their app to. Instead of coding apps to check for Windows 95 or Windows 98, developers coded instructions to check for "Windows 9."

That made sense since there were only two versions of Windows that had a nine in their name to that point. It was simply an easier way to figure out which version of Windows the program was dealing with.

Here's a Java code example that's been making the rounds on Google+, Reddit, and Twitter showing just this kind of version checking scheme.

Also check out this Windows 9 search on the code-focused search engine, searchcode, which was first identified by developer Christer Kaitila. At the top of the search results you'll see a bunch of code—again, Java—checking for Windows 9, but not Windows 9.

Microsoft may have looked out at the vast catalog of legacy code and decided the easiest way to avoid an annoying rewrite for all those programs was just to skip Windows 9 and head straight for Windows 10.

Seems like these major Windows X/Windows 10 updates are like kombat packs...

That's funny how you talk to yourself...
Windows 10 is awful indeed, with all that heavy licensed spyware by microsoft... At least they fixed the Start button and merget it with Metro. But I still prefer Win7 for gaming, since all my games simply worked there properly. Especially my favorite Dota2, which is unplayable on Win10... All I can do now is just watch someone else's playing and bet on those lucky guys at this site. I can't even downgrade my OS to 8.1 and the Win7 version is now officially declared as obsolete software...

Yup. Remember they did say that there will not be a Windows 11. What do you guys think?

I wonder if Ed Boon got the idea of creating Easter eggs/secrets in the Mortal Kombat franchise from Bill Gates and his Easter eggs/secrets in Windows.

Coincidentally, Mortal Kombat and Microsoft Solitaire got inducted into the 2019 hall of fame.

This post is pretty old, But I thought I might jump in and tell my experience from 8.1 to 10, the spatial sound feature is amazing in MKX. I got to know about this when I got a studio headphone pair from this bunch. If anyone is in the same boat, definitely go for the Windows 10!

you're trying to say that there's a difference in MK only because of the windows update?
call me old fashioned, but i'm still on my win 7 and it works perfectly and i doubt there would be differences on how it works on 8.1 or 10
