Star Trek Into Darkness (teaser trailer now out)

I might be alone on this, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm not really into like Star Trek, Star Wars or any of those space opera type films; tried watching them but couldn't get into them. They just bore me for some reason, I prefer post-apocalyptic movies and sci-fi horrors when it comes to sci-fi movies. But I enjoyed the one that came out back in 09 because it was a lot of fun; it wasn't groundbreaking or anything but it did what it did well and was entertaining. It had plenty of comic relief and there weren't any boring moments in the film, at least not from what I remember. My only problems with it were the villain and some of the visual effects, but other than those, I thought it was solid.

Back a few years ago when this movie first came out and I was really into following the movie industry and box office and all that, I saw a lot of Star Trek fans on box office forums that didn't like the movie because it was more of a blockbuster movie instead of being more deep and intellectual like the older Star Trek movies. I don't know if there are any Star Trek fans on here, but if there are, I'm curious, what did you all think of the movie?

I'm a Star Wars fanboy.

Star Trek sucks. The movie sucks too. Everything about Star Trek should be burned in a fire and forever forgotten.

I'm excited for the new Star Trek movie screw the haters here they're just jealous because Lucus hasn't made a good star wars film in years so he shit on star wars and sold it to mickey mouse like a b i t c h.

^Your opinion is silly.

I love Star Wars. I also love Star Trek. I loved the 2009 J.J. Abrams / Bad Robot Star Trek; the casting was great, and so was the script. I have it on Blu-Ray, and actually nearly re-watched it tonight (Watched Alien and Aliens instead, lol). I'm looking forward to the new movie. I think Abrams is trolling us all hardcore with the through-the-glass Kirk-Spock hand thing, a la Wrath of Khan. I really, really doubt they'll kill Spock off like in the original series of TOS Crew movies. That'd slash their credibility.

I'm totally with Freyith on this one. I like Star Wars and Star Trek... people who only like one are trying way too hard to compare them to each other when in actuality the two franchises are really not trying to be the same thing at all.

While I like the old, deep, cerebral Star Trek, I liked the 2009 version as well. It's a fresh take on characters you already know. Comparing the 2009 film to the Original Series is almost like the same thing as comparing the '60s Batman TV series to the Nolan trilogy. It's all awesome, just different. I'm totally looking forward to the new film.

So everything Marvel sucks too because it belongs to Disney?

And maybe because the main Star Wars series finished? Harry Potter must suck too huh, because another movie isn't coming out.

You're silly.

Well Star Wars vs Star Trek is like Halo vs Call of Duty.

Far from the same thing but still in the same area, if you catch my drift.

I've watched plenty of Star Trek. My father loved the show so he made me watch it with him many times, but I could never get into it. I think it sucks, lol.

See, this is exactly the crap I'm talking about. Star Wars and Star Trek are FAR more different than Halo and Call of Duty. their similarities are largely superficial. Star Wars is a closer cousin to Lord of the Rings than it is to Star Trek. But that is lost on so many ignorant people who just say "hurr durr they both have spaceships"

Halo and Call of Duty are extremely different except for the fact that they're both First-Person Shooters.

So my point still stands.

Star Trek and Star Wars are very different, except that they both science-fiction, so they are put in the same barrel.

Silly.

No, you are silly. Star Wars is not science fiction. You are just assuming it is because it has spaceships. There is nothing sci-fi about Star Wars. It merely has a similar setting to a lot of sci-fi films. Star Wars is fantasy. Star Trek is sci-fi.

It's actually a blend of the two, since elements like space travel, hyper space, and land speeders classify it as science fiction.

But elements like the force can make it fantasy.

So yeah, it's like two different vegetables on the same farmland (Star Wars and Star Trek).

The mere presence of space travel and other such technology does not make it sci-fi. In order to be sci-fi, the technology has to be part of the focus. In Star Trek, it is. In Star Wars, it isn't. The technology in Star Wars isn't part of the story, it's part of the setting. It isn't sci-fi.

The technology plays an extremely large role in the story of Star Wars. You can't just shrug it off like it's not there and merely just the setting.

I even looked it up and an article said to classify it as Science Fantasy.

You make a comment hating on Star Trek and even admit you're a fanboy of Star wars yet I'm being silly when I counter that remark lol?

You countered my remark with invalid points.

I don't mind you challenging me, but at least bring something viable to the table.

Setting is a huge part of a story, you do realize this, don't you LC?

If the setting is sci-fi, then that makes Star Wars sci-fi.

The story may not be as heavily influenced by the sci-fi elements as other sci-fi series, but it still has more than its fair share of sci-fi elements, which makes it sci-fi.

Star Wars= space opera. Space opera is a subgenre of sci-fi. There you go

There's nothing I said that wasn't viable. There's a whole theme park of Star Wars fans who hate what Lucus has done to the Star Wars brand and most fans agree that those last three films didn't hold a candel to the originals but instead of amiting he messed up the franchise in favor of corporate greed He straight up sold out to Disney it wasn't like he needed the money. I'm not hating on Disney nor did I ever talk shit about them buying Marvel hell they can't possibly make it any worse than Lucus did. Botom line is the man who made Stars Wars released three bad movies cashed in on the Star Wars name than took the money and run.

Episode III was a great movie. I loved it.

Episode II was decent, nothing special.

Episode I was bad, but only because it was a crafted decision by Lucas. A smart one actually in order to get younger fans into the series.

I couldn't care less if Lucas sold it to Disney. As long as Mickey Mouse isn't in a Star Wars movie, it's fine.
