Shenmue 3 E3????????????

Substitute Zero

Over a decade & half ago Shenmue changed the world of gaming creating a open world beat em up which was the first really of its kind and paved the way for games like GTA 3 which were still using top down perspective until this point and the more recent Sleeping Dogs hold many similarities to it. It was followed by an amazing sequel two years later but after the the Sega Dreamcast was discontinued in 2001 the series was never completed leaving fans of the series such as myself annoyed and frustrated waiting.

For those of you who have played it will know what I'm on about and how much it means that there could now be a strong possibility that we could finally get the third installment with Yu Suzuki hinting the idea of this on his twitter account yesterday sending fans wild.

What do you think retro gamers are we finally going to get it or is this one nasty prank?????

I have not played Shenmue, but I have heard good things about it.

It looks the $2 million goal on Kickstarter was met, but I question if that is enough. The original was the most expensive game produced at the time, and the funding goal is less than 5% of that.

Yup they are off to a great start but your right its going to cost a lot to make this game. I think they will gain a bit more through Kickstarter as they have some great deals going and I can only hope with Sony behind them they will make it happen.

Something else they could think about doing is re releasing the first two games in hd for the PS4 or PSPVITA if they are getting stuck financially. I could not imagine that being too expensive or too long as the games are already made. It would inroduce everyone to the franchise who have not experienced it before gaining more publicity while generating more finance for the third.

The kickstarter is only a jumpstart, and I'm sure Sony is going to see how much interest it has, especially since they're already beyond the 2 million mark (and still rising), so Sony will probably make it happen.

It's not going to be the same. The first Shenmue was revolutionary for it's time simply because it was one of the first open world games to hit consoles. Nowadays, open world gameplay is now the standard for most adventure games. Shenmue is no longer the special little snowflake, it is now the old dog trying to keep up with the youngsters.

Kinda ironic you say that, having Cloud from the FF7 remake demo as your avatar. ;P

Grand Theft Auto 3 was a revolutionary game, yet people still love the sequels.

Just because Shenmue 3 isn't making an impact this time around, doesn't mean it can't still be a fantastic game. Especially due to so many people contributing towards the kickstarter, I'm sure the devs are going to put their heart and soul into it. If anything, people will love it even more because the fans are saving the franchise themselves.

Big Kickstarter these days are more about showing there's still interest in some products than effectively raising money to make said products. These US$ 2 million won't even cover distribution costs for the game.
