Questions about Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Kung Lao's Biographies

I just have a few questions regarding the fore-mentioned characters and their bios. I'll be greatful for any feedback.

1. Johnny Cage
In MK3/Trilogy/UMK, I believe it is claimed that Johnny Cage is killed by Shao Kahn's extermination squads but due to the merger of the realms his soul can't ascend to heaven. This allows Raiden to protect it - in turn bringing Johnny back to life to fight Shao Kahn's army once again. Is this true?

2. Sonya Blade
At the end of MKII, what actually happens to Sonya? I've read 2 scenarios.
1) At the end of MK when Shang Tsung's island collapses she is captured and kept prisoner by Shao Kahn along with Kano.
2) She escapes back to Earthrealm but is captured by the Tarkatan horde after the attack on the Wu Shi academy and taken back to Outworld.
................. this brings me to a different question. How did MKII begin? Was it because Shang Tsung invited the warriors to another tournament in Outworld to make up for his loss in the previous tournament? Or were the warriors led into an ambush due to the capture of Sonya Blade?

3. Kung Lao
Was Kung Lao present in the first Mortal Kombat by dressing up as one of Shang Tsung's guards, therefore helping Liu Kang defeat Shang Tsung? Or did he make his first canon appearance in MKII where he ventured into Outworld to help Liu Kang?
Also was he to blame for the younger Sub-Zero's scar on his eye?

I hope someone can help me with these questions !!!!

Looking forward to read your responses.

Cheers

1. As far as I can tell, that looks correct.

2. Not entirely sure on that one, but I'd guess that the Tarkatans getting ahold of her at Wu Shi was the first time she was taken to Outworld. I thought MK2 was supposed to be an actual tournament and not just a diversion or an ambush or something of that nature.

3. According to Shaolin Monks, yes. Everything that happened in that game was intended to be canon, so until we get a statement to the contrary, that's what really happened.

1) Cheers for the clarification

2) It was a tournament in Outworld devised by Shang Tsung, but I just wanted to know what made the warriors go there in the first place. Im still unsure however as to whether Sonya was captured or got lost in Outworld. In Johnny Cage's bio it states that after Mortal Kombat, Cage was placed on a Special Forces boat by Raiden and was interrogated by Jax as to where Sonya was.

3) I am not 100% into believing that the whole of Shaolin Monks was canon. I think that some parts could make sense, but other parts just dont.

I would appreciate if anyone could fill me in on what happens between MK and MKII. I'll post what I think happens and would appreciate responses.

Cheers

I agree that there is stuff in Shaolin Monks that doesn't seem to make sense, but that lack of consistency is ironically the most consistent part of the MK universe. I still think they meant for most, if not every, event in the game to have actually taken place, but the overall storyline has so many holes in general that it's difficult for them to come up with something cohesive and coherent that answers all the questions we have. My only point to that is that there may not really be any solid, indisputable answers for your questions at this point in time.

Hopefully someone else will have more insight, though.

I am of the firm belief that Shaolin Monks is mostly NOT canon. There are WAY too many major inconsistencies that really mess with shit. Notably the ending. And the encounters. And the whole souls of the dead being used thing...we know that's not canonical b/c those characters are still alive.

Overall, I think you should not consider Sonya being stolen by the Tarkatan (or that they even invaded). Nor should you believe that Kung Lao was at the first tournament. But the stuff about Johny Cage is completely correct.

Well, the Tarkatans did invade, but I think it was DURING the first MK tournament. When Liu kang got back he was all like "OH SNAP EVERYONES DEAD, WHO DID THIS?" and Kung Lao survived cuz he was a badass and he was like "IT WAS MUTANT PEOPLE" and Raiden was all like "Whoops didnt notice, YA GOTSTA GO TO OUTWORLD TO STOP THEM!" and everyone else got invited via kidnapping/portal. Except Young Sub Zero, he probably snuck in to assassinate Shao Kahn. And Jax probably joined up with Liu and Lao to rescue the ones who got kidnapped.

I think....

To me, Shaolin Monks isn't canon. It was a great game and a good try at expanding the MKII story, but they tried a bit too hard. My take on the questions...

1) Yes, very good.

2) I think Sonya may have followed Kano into Outworld, where they were both captured. As for how the whole Outworld tournament started, I have nothing.

3) Once again, that was for Shaolin Monks. In official MK canon, Kung Lao was the only surviver of the Wu Shi academy attack before Liu showed up. Finally, on the subject of Sub-Zero's scar, maybe Cyrax or Sektor gave it to him as he tried to escape the Lin Kuei.

THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO, before the dawn of man as we knew him, there was Sir Santa of Claus, an ape-like creature making crude and pointless toys out of dinobones and his own waste, hurling them at chimp-like creatures with crinkled hands regardless of how they behaved the previous year. These so-called "toys" were buried as witches, and defecated upon, and hurled at predators when wakened by the searing grunts of children. It wasn't a holly jolly Christmas that year. For many were killed.

A war-like race of elves from the Red Planet landed on the ice-encased Earth, and they were immediately enslaved by the unevolved Santa Ape to make his confused toys using galactic elfin technology. Toys were made into recognizable shapes and given names like "train," but these toys were also thrown at predators and defecated upon because they were so stupid. Christmas still sucked, in a big way.

The ice had made the globe invariable. Santa Ape did not know where the North Pole was. How could he? He was born before science existed. So he arbitrarily placed his workshop IN OUTWORLD, long before the elves unionized, and Christmas was celebrated at each full Moon in front of a great red ape.

But the great red ape was no longer an ape! Now he is SHAO KAHN.

I hope that answered all your questions.
