What did the KTanch and the gang have to say regarding the approach to the new film in the featurettes?

Heard he said some interesting things...

He didn't say anything in specific, since everything included in the bluray was filmed way before the official movie green light. But I noticed a few things that im sure will move on to the next film.

One of them was that he had a collection of crazy martial arts movies from the east that are basically unknown on the states, i guess something like tony jaa stuff but rare, etc... he wanted to have a similar fighting style for the series, and you can get a hint of that on the johnny cage episode, except the series was filmed in two weeks, when movies take months, or years, he wasnt really able to show much of that on the series. With the amount of time he has been giving to make the movie im sure we will see more of that fighting style in there

He mentioned he doesnt want to use cables, or a practiced fight that looks fake, He wants to transfer all that gore from the game to the movie, specially fatalities.

There was a few scenes with sonya jax and johnny talking about how bad the mk community wants a movie, i think they already knew one was coming after this, but who knows.

His favorite episode was raiden's and that one is full of mysticism, he mentioned he wants to create a build up to when a character uses his special move, like sub-zeros ice or scorpions spear for example. He said he made the rebirth short using his own cash so he couldn't afford special effects, that was the only reason he didn't give super powers to the characters. Plus hes aware of what the MK community wants, he reads the you-tube comments or boards and he knows what most people liked and didn't like. There was a full segment on the MK fighter weapons, mystical powers being considered weapons too.

So don't worry, im 100% the movie will have super powers and all that good Mk stuff, he just doesnt want it to look fake and cheesy.

Thank you for that...Now I'll put at ease somewhat now that I know he's atleast sticking to what he said in his June Collider interview.

I like this post because it makes me think with each series.

I think he used them as testing grounds. As you noticed even though linked he gave each one a different feel/vibe and I guess was testing to see which one bit the best for us.

IF that is the case. I really like his approach to finding what we truly want as a community.

The testing grounds statement is correct, I think all the episodes felt so different I thought it was a different director all the time, but im sure that testing was ordered by WB, they wanted to know whats up before they gave Kevin a huge check for millions of dollars to make the movie.

I'm kinda glad they didn't go the "fans are unappeasable" route where they disregard the fans and source completely.

I actually have a lot of faith in the fight scenes and action for the movie considering Kevin knows what he's doing in that department. I just hope the story and dialogue measure up though cause idk how good this script writer is. My expectations aren't high, just as long as it makes sense and isn't cheesy.

Everything was set for 10 episodes with no second parts, we got only 5 episodes because they got a really small budget and filming time, only 18 days, they said thats what they could achieve realistically even though they wanted to make more episodes.
A few things got scrapped like the scorpion/subzero sword fight, it was filmed with a green sword but they never got to edit the cgi ice on it, they decided to go with the ice spikes instead because they ran out of money. Kevin said he was heartbroken to make that choice, i am too, i wish he had included that full fight on the bluray instead of parts.
I saw a few moves and kicks from the sektor mokap actor that didnt make it to the episode, possible a schedule or budget issue.
