only game from WB/NRS in 2013?

what about those reports last fall that Wb was planning the release of the new MK movie to coincide with a new MK game in 2013? A. who says that Injustice is the only NRS title to come out in 2013, and B. who says the MK game that the movie may or may not coincide with has to be MK10? what are your thoughts?
 
I've been thinking about this myself. I was so sure MK10 would come out next year to coincide with the new movie. Now that Injustice exists, I have a new idea.

Injustice was announced last week. I bet a small team at NRS began working on the game near the very end of MK9's development cycle. NRS has been expanding in order to have the manpower to work on multiple IPs simultaneously - so this theory is certainly plausible.

Back to MK - I bet NRS will begin work on MK10 (and the return of Tanya hopefully lol) near the end of Injustice's development cycle next year. This would put the game at a 2015 release window. We haven't had any substantial updates about the new movie since it was announced last year, so who's to say it hasn't been pushed back a year or year and a half. If the movie is still on a 2013 release schedule, MK10 will certainly not debut alongside the movie. Instead, the MK10 announcement trailer will debut alongside the Blue-Ray release of the new movie - in Spring 2014.

I foresee the MK10 announcement trailer will be bundled within the movie's Blue-Ray disc lol.
 
I believe that Warner Bros was definitely creating an MK movie in 2013 being directed by Kevin Tanchereon. I think I saw a tweet from Kevin that said that he was working on it, straight from TRMK.

here is the original LA Times article. both the president of Warner home ent. and the president of New Line stated, according to the article, that they hoped the new movie would be released in conjunction with a new MK game. Kevin Tancharoen has also posted on Twitter on May 29 the hashtag #mortalkombat2013, which would lead me to think the movie is still on schedule for a 2013 release.
 
Yeah I remember reading about that too but they def aren't gonna release both fighting games in the same year. It would just be stupid business wise having them steal eachother's thunder......unless they made the new mk an action adventure game. Food for thought but I'm pretty sure they would've announced it by now, especially at E3. Its very possible they have a team working on mk and another working on the dc games which could lead to a "call of duty" type of cycle where one team releases a game every other year. That would mean mk10 would come out 2014 which could possibly be released along side the movie's BR release. It's too early to tell though.
 
i think 2014 is too long to wait for an mk game. i hope NRS is like secretly working on mk10 and just not saying anything. im sure they can work on 2 games at once.

According to Boon NRS has over 100 employees working during the development of MK9 maybe the teams have grown since then allowing for more games to be made kinda like the uncharted team which has two teams (This is why the last of us is coming out this soon right after uncharted 3) food for thought. Warner Bros is a much bigger company than Midway they have the ability to make it happen.

exactly. theyre a bigger company now so theres no excuse for mk10 to not be released in 2013. they dont release like 2 more editions of their games like capcom likes to so im sure NRS are well into the production of mk10.

This is a perfect example of how fans keep wishing for something repeatedly, to the point that it becomes a rumor.
WB, themselves, never said that they would release an MK game to coincide with the movie.
The movie that Kevin Tanchoreon is doing is a totally different thing, on it's own.

Besides, it wouldn't make sense.
It's safe to say that MK10 would probably continue where MK9 left off, with a dead Liu Kang and dead Sub Zero (as much as I'd hate to say it).
The movie that Kevin Tanchoreon is doing will probably take place around the same era that MK9 did (MK1,2 & 3), given that this is his first MK movie, and he probably wants to introduce "his version" of the Klassic MK characters that the fans love.
 
I think it would be too soon for another mk game. We received from NRS MK(9), MK (arcade klassics), Batman - lock down, MK (komplete), MK (vita) and now Injustice. In addition, there will be DLC's and patches that will be made for Injustice. I call MK (working title) for 2014 but I could be wrong -- at least I hope I'm wrong.

The movie doesn't even have an official release date either. It could be pushed back into 2014 as well, it hasn't even been filmed yet and we're half way into 2012.

I'm sure NetherRealm may have another game in 2013, as they have a lot of people but I wouldn't expect a BIG console game. They have a growing mobile team (iOS and Vita) as well, so who knows what else is in store for fans.
 
well, Ed Boon did say last December at the VGA that "we got a lot of games in the things", which I think he meant to say works. regardless, I will bet that AT LEAST ONE of them is an MK title.
 
I think this new IP will push MK10 back to early 2014. That is pure speculation though no one knows right now, it's still 2012 so it's possible a new MK could be released at the end of 2013 if they started on it right after they finished MK9. It doesn't look like they did though.
