NRS' Balance ADHD

BBBLP

Robot Rock
I had really high hopes for Injustice. I was under the impression that NRS had learned their lesson with MK9. It seemed like they did at first, a lot of player suggestions for MK9 made it in. Like alt costumes in arcade ladders, robust practice mode and better netcode. All of the aforementioned is very cute and lovely, but that isn't what saves a fighting game. MK9 was killed by NRS' choice to patch every single casual complaint weekly. The game was given no chance to grow. Every perceived imperfection was snipped at like a bonsai tree. Nobody could keep up with all of the changes and by the time they were finished, most players had moved on and lost interest.

That is what I had hoped NRS would take note of the most. The fact that their kneejerk reactions to the casual player who plays 3 matches a week hurt their game. There are and were definitely things that needed to be changed like Batgirl's infinite, Kabal's block infinite and Grundy's unclashable grapples. But those things were unavoidable. If Batgirl got you in the infinite, that was the game. You started blocking Kabal and you were eating that chip until you gave in to the fact that you needed to get hit by the gut punch. Those things prevented growth in the game. But things like Black Adam's dive kick and Scorpion's teleport are just strong. You cannot find a single fighting game where a certain character or characters have clear advantages. That doesn't mean the game is broken, it just means that some players will have to work harder than others. That is the nature of the beast. If you want to have the respect of other players or you want to be a character loyalist, you in most cases have to put in the work to do so. Strong does not equal game breaking.

Case in point is Doomsday. Doomsday was a huge problem during the game's release. His Ex Supernova seemed to be the all seeing finger of god. Able to strike you from wherever. And even though the outcries reached the heavens, NRS didn't patch it right away. And as a result of this, players were forced to grow and find out how to fight it. And when it was discovered that it was beaten by a simple forward dash, Doomsday fell out of favor with the casual scrubs who were content with Body Splash and Supernova spam. And another tactic became prominent. Deathstroke. Deathstroke received a nerf very early on in the game's life. I believe it was actually day 2 that he got hit with the foam stuff. Outcry once again became the name of the game. And just when word was getting around that you could dash in between his gun shots and that his flip was punishable by full combo, he got slapped, again.

Now we are reaching the finale of the first season of DLC, where Zod will be announced in a few hours. The current man listed on Metropolis' Most Wanted is named Scorpion. His teleport, which on block was punishable by full combo, got nerfed to high hell. With recovery frames added to whiff, hit and block. Essentially ruining some of his bnb's and to add insult to injury, they nerfed his flip kick. A move in which I saw no complaints for. This was his get off me move. His block string ender. His "Super Breath". And it was nerfed. Along with it he received a damage reduction. It was like a virtual True Hollywood story. Scorpion can now be found in rehab, snorting oxycotin with Hasslehoff.

tl:dr

LET YOUR GOD DAMNED GAME GROW A BIT BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO CHOP IT UP

I agree with you 100%. I don't think even MK9 got patched this often. It gets to the point where you have to re-learn your character and their match-ups. Scorpion went from borderline OP to barely relevant. It's sad really. I don't mind people staying away from Deathstroke but still , the nerfs and buffs really need to stop. Fix the broken stuff , but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Love this post bbblp.

There were actually even top players from MK9 complaining about Scorpion. Which ridiculous. Guess they got their wish lol.

Harley needs to command dash :'( leaves you at the bane of the connection and if it registers in time

Even though I got so frustrated mainly because of Scorpion's teleport, everything else I had no problem with currently.....I believe it's because of so many casuals playing it and sticking to one character, instead of trying the other characters, and train to beat the enemy. The casual might as well just play the game offline only, since online should be mainly for the big leagues.

They are knee jerking a bit and its unfortunate. There is no tough love and they are not giving the game and the players any time to mature. Reading Zod plays like Supe's and Cyborg also.

and if I could thank you multiple times for that post I would.

It takes years to fully grow a game, and that's with hundreds and hundreds of people trying to break it down.

I'll say this as more proof to the cake.

in SSBM(Cuz it's one of the only competitive games I play that get NO patches)
Pikachu was LOWTIER, from 2004-2010.

He's now high mid from 2011-Today

Want to know how many times he was patched?

ZERO

Well critical how did he move up the tier list?

Because people finally learned shit about him 6 years later, and he suddenly was able to swing it with the top tiers quite a bit.

could you imagine if nintendo pulled a NRS?

buffed pikachu?

that bugger would be OP as FUAH.

What was Black Adam's block frames before this patch? I think it's at -15 now, which is fine. Any quicker recovery is too quick in my opinion. I don't mind NRS making Scorpion's teleport hit high, but that's the ONLY change they should have made to it. It was already fully punishable, and pretty easy to punish also. His Flip Kick.... I never heard one single complaint from a single motherFer so I don't know why it was nerfed.

NRS loves to patch things that don't need to be patched, while not patching things that should be patched. eh...

No...Mortal Kombat was a great game and I liked the patches. They patched Johnny Cage and he very well needed it.MK was given a chance to grow and it did,You just have to learn to adjust.

Right...

But they also nerfed kano/jade/subzero.

Who weren't even high tier just cuz people cried about upball, up+3, and subZeros damage output.

MK was a great game, but some of the patches weren't needed.

They took a solid character (Kano) and made him the worst character in the entire game with nerfs that he didn't deserve, people thought Cyber Sub needed buffs but when people spent time with him in the lab they found out that he was a solid character.

I understand the fact that every game has high tier characters with tools that can beat others, but the line between low tier and high tier in MK9 is ridiculous now.

Kabal can shut down every character in the game, and he has NO bad match ups at all. If they gave the game a chance to breathe and grow I honestly think that Kabal wouldn't be as strong as he is now.

Keno's upball did need a nerf, but they should have buffed him somewhere else. His upball was straight up Fing ridiculous on launch, especially online. Deathstroke's gun nerf was completely unnecessary. Scorpion's teleport hitting high is fine by me but to add extra frames is also unnecessary as well as the changes made to his flip kick.

Online should NEVER come into consideration when it comes to nerfing. A lot of people wanted to nerf Raiden's teleport because it was hard to punish online. Had they done that, it would be insanely easy to punish offline, which is where the money is.

It didn't need to be patched just because of online, it was ridiculous offline as well. I didn't say that it should have been patched BECAUSE of online. ESPECIALLY ONLINE means that it was ridiculous offline, but even more so online. Do you even read, bro? haha
