Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

I don't really consider how they are handling kameo's to be actual assists. What makes assist gameplay fun is calling in the assist character to assist you while you're doing stuff with your main. In MK1 your main character just stands there while the assist does a special. That makes it functionally the same as playing a single character.
The Kameos are everything I wanted them to be. I love how they chill on select screen, show up in your intros, Fatal Blows and even fatalities. They aren't just assists that walk away, but actual partners and thats fucking brilliant
Gameplay wise they are just assists that walk away. It is cool to see them in the intros and such though

Yep.
Gameplay-wise they seemed just like MK11 konsumables.
Press Up, Down, Left or Right for the spcial action and then the character goes away.
An added extra X-Ray hit was there too kameos, but the only difference is that kameos can do Fatalities. Big whoop.
Same fucking Spine Rip from kameo Sub-Zero and the same fucking Heart Rip from kameo Kano, which we've seen thousands of times before.
The rest of the kameo finishers will probably be the same:
Sonya's Kiss of Death
Jax's Arm Rip or Head Clap
Scorpion's Toasty
Oooh, never saw those before. How original. /s

It seems like it depends on the call. Because you can act during some of them, like Kano's knives and Jax's backbreaker

The dumbest shit I've ever seen "WHAT ABOUT THE MODES?!"
Its a fucking fighting game, you're gonna be playing the fighting part of it, so they showed the fighting gameplay.
No offense but this such a kasual take. MK is more than just a fighting game, we learned that with the spin offs. Did you say the same thing when SF showed they're open world? And yall wonder why MK is in the position its in right now. I was right when I said NRS can't build hype for shit. They played it waaayy to safe in the last few games and now it's koming back to bite emm in the @ss.

World Tour is complete dogshit, don't let the influencers fool you lmao. There is nothing fun about running around with half of a character's moveset, grinding mini fights to unlock more of it.

Maybe it's dogshit... but it surely beats running around in an RNG Krypt lootbox simulator.

.... They didn't even bother to mention it here.... Oof!

Theres a blink and you miss frame where it shows MK3 Sonya

I thought the gameplay looked pretty fun. Everything else though, not so much. Story stuff had a really weird goofy tone and the outfits were very generic looking just like MK11 costumes, the easily recognisable classic outfits from the assists next to them didn't help.

Which probably means we're getting the crap outfit customisation again. Kitana and Milleena looked especially terrible. I'd be happy if we could atleast go back to MKX designs.

It looks like Raiden and Liu Kang have swapped story roles now. Raiden sounding like a newbie with something to prove just feels so wrong.

I do remember how you were talking about bias...

If you haven't played the game and just saw couple of videos, just say so.

1. 10-20 hours of content.
2 Story mode (nothing special, but doesn't take itself serious anyway and just focused on fun). Definitely better, than SFV... but yeah. Anything is better, than that.
3. Mini games that teach you about basic and advanced techniques through fun activities.
4. Beat them up mode in the metro.
5. You have to find the main characters like pokemon throughout the world, interact with them, then increase your level with them, by using their moves or getting them gifts, so they would give you new moves to use on your character (basically you have to master the character's style, before you get his/her full set)
6. You have aggressive enemies that can attack you in the open world. A lot that can take you down, cause difficulty really jumps up.
7. Collectibles/secrets, that can be only reached by using certain character moves.
8. They didn't have to do it, but they still did it. Extended interaction with character's. Not only by just approaching them, but you also get messages from them and you can even pick your messages, on how you will respond to them, which leads to different dialogues. They made the world feel ALIVE. You know... the shit that people have been asking from MK for years?
9. Also fun irony. There is one function you can do with character's you meet... something that MK1 is proudly showing off right now.

They can come in as Master assist, that help you in a fight... And no. They don't just jump in, hit and run. The legit help you in a fight.

And that's just World Tour. I didn't mention Arcade, Battle Hub (that use your custom character), classic game modes/mini games with characters.
All of that. For 60 bucks. So yeah...

The pricing feels insane right now. Not to mention. 100GB for this? Really?

I am telling you. Either they have complete morons in marketing or this is what they spent 4 years on. Pretty backgrounds.

Bro I have the game lmao. I got to Chapter idk 5 or 6 and stopped playing. Its boring as fuck. I don't need mini games or gimped movesets to learn my character, I already know how to use Chun Li. But for some reason I need to grind out matches with HALF of her moveset to unlock more of her moveset. That is so wildly unfun to me.

And you're praising the AI coming out and fighting for you? Yeah, we def have different values when it comes to fighters.

Also don't forget...
....Characters don't animate like stick figures who got glimbal locked...
...Characters who don't look like they came out of a Sims generator, rendered in SFM...
...Characters have a dynamic muscle system, vascularity... Even jiggle physics which ironically makes it more realistic...
....Characters ooze personality....

And you're praising the AI coming out and fighting for you? Yeah, we def have different values when it comes to fighters.
Eeeer... what...? Did you fry or something?

I am literally mocking a game for charging 70 bucks, while promoting a feature, that is literally just an assist. A feature that is present even in SF6 as an optional feature... hence why I said. Irony. That the selling point of MK1 is something that is present in SF6. You don't see CAPCOM throwing marketing around that.

You're literally the one salivating over Kameos...

Watch out we have a badass over here. Yeah I also know how to use both Cammy and Juri. Know their movesets to the T. Doesn't stop me from enjoying the game. Getting to interact with my favorite characters and while I am not a big fan of SF world, I appreciate, that at least ONE game, gives me a chance to explore its world.

You didn't like it? Ok. Good for you.

World Tour is made for those that don't wanna go into sweaty ranked MP, for new players and the fans of SF universe.

I would have killed for MK game that had half of the stuff, that SF6 is offering. Instead... KAMEOS. For 70 bucks. So people can watch more cutscenes mid fight. Great. INNOVATION.

....Characters ooze personality....

This... PERSONALITY. MK1 was lacking all of that. Kenshi/Johnny Cage fight in the apartment looked like... 2 regular dudes fighting. A yakuza attacked a celebrity at his home. Literally.

You can find police reports like that, quite easily.

A VERY poorly rendered apartment 🤣

You know what it reminded of.... Those beginner ArchViz renderers, with SFM characters superimposed on top of them. In some screenshots their shadows don't even align properly. It's THAT bad.

There's now a group who goes yelling "NRS WILL POLISH IT UP THEY ALWAYS DO SHUT UP!!!11". Hey, wasn't it Ed Boon hyping this the fuck up, saying "We spend 4 years working on this; it'll show!!", "Everything will be answered with this trailer!", "We will shake the cage, it won't be like MK11!!!"?

This was supposed to be THE first impression of the game. Especially for a game that's 3 months away, meaning it goes Gold soon, meaning it's pretty much done.

With the current way it's being handled, I struggle to see why this game would cost $40, let alone $70+. But I suppose some people just love taking it up the ass, "for the team".... 🤣

Yeah, and people would rather have playable characters than a half-assed MK11 Tower konsumable / Injustice 2 assist (aka kameos) in this game.
You honestly think that 3D era fans would be fine it their character ended up as this dogshit kameo / assist instead of being playable?
Before you try to compare Sonya, Jax and Kano to the 3D era as well, we're talking about characters that haven't been playable for 17 years vs characters that have been in the last 3 back-to-back MK games made by NRS. Huge difference.

After watching the gameplay multiple times, I do like what their doing with mechanics such as bringing back the 3 bar meter system of MK9/X instead of that shitty MK11 self generating garbage. Kenshi looks awesome and fun as hell but I'm not sold on the Kameo assist just yet. It looks gimmicky but until I get to play it I won't know for sure. Apparently from what I'm hearing flawless blocks are gone as well as interactables which is definitely interesting. My biggest concern is the characters movement. It still looks very MK11ish to me but again Injustice 2 has a similar movement but is way more fluid to play than MK11 IMO. Final thoughts, it's not a complete and utter failure that I was fearing but I'm still on the fence. I'll need to see more.

Here we go... every influencer/pro player screaming 30/10 for MK1 gameplay. Would take that seriously, if people didn't do that with MK11 as well.
