Hopefully Motaro doesn't get supermaned by Raiden than never seen again like MK9 lol. He better be a sub boss and not just fanservice this time around.
 
Darrius kameo stole the show. Damn, if they had BALLS to bring HIM then rooster, either main or kameo, will be a 3D era heaven.

We have already got Kenshi, Frost, Li Mei, Darrius, Mavado, Nitara (she attaks Smoke in that rare story footage), leaks cofirms also Ashrah and Havik, with a few kameo slots unknown and KP2 and maybe KP3... damn what a time to be alive!

Some leaks suggest that he’s actually a selectable kameo character, but we’ll see.
Characters like Motaro and Ferra would be perfect as kameos (imo) as you can’t really do Fatalities or other things like Fatal Blows on them.

Ed has also trolled / joked / screwed around about Motaro being a kameo on Twitter and both Reiko and Motaro were in the SDCC story trailer that someone was able to capture on their potato phone. Wouldn't be surprised if the next character reveal / gameplay trailer was playable Reiko and kameo Motaro at the very least.

My guess / hope is that if that leak from a while back is correct then the pattern (following the Umgadi trailer) perhaps could be...... Reiko, Nitara, kameo Motaro and either Sindel, General Shao or Reptile to go along with them.
The "Outworld" faction, if you will.

I always find it funny when people say this yet MK3 UMK3 and trilogy on inferior hardware had no problem with Motaro being in the game. Than MK9 rolls around and NRS are like ''VidIOGamS is hard! We can't get Motaro horsey legs to work BRO he's got to go!'' It reminds me of Square enix crying about making HD towns in a modern Final Fantasy lol. It baffles my mind how developers struggle to do things today that games did in the 80's and 90's.

Sprites don't seem as hard to work with as actual modeled characters.
That's why there's a shit ton of MK3 / UMK3 / Trilogy mugen games.
Plus, when you add shit like Fatal Blows and detailed Fatalities made to work with regular human shaped beings you have to specifically modify it to make it work with someone oddly shaped like Motaro.
That's likely why Shao Kahn was smaller in MK11 than he was in the arcade days and why Goro was smaller in MKX than he usually is when he's a sub-boss.

I give NRS a lot of shit for stuff in the games and how shit tends to be handled in certain aspects, but the Motaro thing is something that I could easily see why it causes them issues these days VS if they were still using sprite animation.
Him being a kameo is likely the best bet for Motaro because they don't have to worry about Fatal Blows on his abnormally shaped skeleton or Fatalities on him. It's the easier / lazier shit for them to do to have him do 2 or 3 kameo moves and a throw, and then a Fatality.

If we where talking about a small or even a modern AA inde studio I could see it but a AAA developer with a hundred plus team come on. They could do it but chose not to. WB could intervene and say ''times up ship the game!'' but that's the only excuse I'll accept. Making him a Kameo is just taking the easy way out imo.

Bring in a character with less effort as a kameo in comparison to making them fully playable.

Shit, technically we're getting 5 more kameos with KP1 and if they keep doing 5 more kameos for a potential KP2 then they could essentially have the whole Armageddon roster either via playable characters or kameos for less effort.

37 playable characters + 26 total roter kameos = 63 characters in total (playable and kameo)
Yeah, some kameos will overlap with main roster counterparts.
I don't like the thought of an Armageddon sized roster happening that way with more kameos, but that seems like the easy way for them to use it as a cop-out and be like "See, we included the majority of the characters from the Midway era. Now, shut up and be happy, and give us money."

I know a thing or two regarding 3D models and characters..... Yes, I've built and animated quite a few MK-style characters.

The Motaro debate is bunch of horseshit. I remember back in Armageddon days, you'd have "experts" weighing in about how hard it is to animate someone like Motaro, how they'd need to mocap animation....by getting an actual horse in and blablabla....I shit you not....

It's not exactly fair to compare UMK3 to 3D models.... UMK3 was an actual physical model posed and then captured for stop motion animation. 3D Motaro will require a bit of work.... but it's definitely NOT impossible. I have no idea why NRS was so reluctant making Motaro all this time. They've done Goro and Kintaro, but Motaro was just TOO MUCH!!111.

I usually don't toot my own horn, but a Motaro Rig (basically animation controllers) would take me probably an hour to do. Yes, with tail, 4 legs, 2 arms and etc. This has been possible to do FOREVER, they even done this for MK9 cutscenes, but when it comes to gameplay... that's where we draw the line.

I'm glad NRS finally pulled the head out of their asses and added Motaro. In fact, if I'd get MK12, Motaro would definitely be my tag assist.... sorry I mean KaMeO......

Yeah, and that's more work than NRS is willing to do.
That's why Motaro would likely only be a kameo.
A basic set of assists with R1 + 3 of the 4 directions (probably his back kick, tail shot and a teleport move), forward throw and Fatality, but not a fully playable character that you can do Fatal Blows, throws and Fatalities ON.
Kameo Motaro is NRS tooting their horn and going "See, he's playable" when he's technically just a kameo.
THAT'S what I'm getting at.
People want Trilogy playable Motaro and THAT is something that I don't think NRS will ever do.
IF Motaro is indeed in this, then that's all that he'll likely ever be, and it's as close as NRS will ever go as far as making him "playable."

The only thing that I don't like about the game so far is the lack of new original characters. I'm glad that many post-MK3 characters are back, but I do like some new characters too. We are not going to see stuff with the Great Kung Lao in the past. So many miss opportunites.

How can they put Darrius in as a kameo but leave out his rival? That's kinda weird.
Because aside from their limited moves and Fatality speculation, what else is there to talk about when it comes to kameos?
They don’t have a full move set and don’t have speaking intros, and if they’re in story mode it’s probably in a limited capacity.
Wouldn't be surprised if Darrius in MK1 is the equivalent to Bo Rai Cho in MKX.... A short little scene where maaaaaaaybe he pair up with your character or someone else.

Given that people hated D'Vorah for killing off characters, shat on Jacqui and Erron was "meh" at best
I'm fine with some of them sitting this one out. Not to mention that NRS themselves shat on Kotal Kahn with his own MK11 trailer reveal, crippled him in story mode and beheaded him in Aftermath.
If NRS themselves doesn't give a shit for these new characters and they just use them for fodder to prop other characters up, then why in the hell should I give a single flying fuck about them, either?

It's about goddamn time and a nice break for once from MK9 and MK11 giving us the same shit of 20+ motherfucking MK1 through UMK3 characters, and I gladly welcome some of them being playable again after 17 fucking years.
Give me Kenshi, Reiko, Li Mei, Tanya, Nitara, Ashrah and Havik with Quan Chi as DLC with Darrius and Frost kameos and I'll fucking step away from this series after this game and just disappear forever in my dark gaming corner.
Won't ever ask NRS for anything else as long as they truly can make all of these 3D era characters come back.
If NRS wants to do more klassic characters for MK2, then that's fine.
For this game, though, I'll take ALL of the post-MK3 / 3D era and obscure character overload that NRS wants to throw our way.
