Long time Mortal Kombat community member Trash-MKX sent along a report from Wizard World Philly '08, a significant traveling comic convention. In speaking with a representative from DC Comics, we get a unique glimpse into the mindset of DC Comics in their collaboration with Midway Games. Since DC Comics clearly has a defined story mythology, they have their own set of rules they must abide by. Trash-MKX got a good bit of information and filed a report on whatever information he could gather. Included are details on how the storylines are merging, which characters are for sure in the game, and along with other details on consoles and possible Downloadable Content (DLC). Granted this was a source with DC Comics and their people have some say in things, but for the most part their information may not be considered in stone. So, take this info with a grain of salt and with a little bit of suspicion. Here's a snippet.
I asked if the story will be an Elseworlds story or fall in the DCU proper. It will NOT be an Elseworlds story, but don't look for any references about the event in any DC books, besides a very small few, IF that. No MK characters will ever show up in any other DC books, EVER. He said there will not be an issue of Batman with flashbacks on the event or Batman discussing what happened with Robin.

Robin? So he is in the game? I get a big *smirk* and Yes. Add Robin to the list. I then of course asked, which one? Tim Drake? Dick Grayson? Jason Todd? Stephanie Brown? He said the story will take place in the present. So Tim Drake? And he confirmed with a head nod.

I must have named off every MK character and DC character that came to mind to see if he would let me know who else. He said a few are quite obvious on both ends and confirmed the following: Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern (didn't say which GL or Flash but said that doesn't mean there is only one of each in the game) Black Canary, Hawkman and Powergirl.

I find this "source"'s info questionable. If indeed there will only be 10-11 characters per side, and tall those DC characters are included, AND there will be ample representation of evil characters, then it looks like we've run out of room. With all the characters he's mentioned that brings the DC count up to 9 which leaves at most 2 slots for bad guys. With that space I could fit Joker and Lex....that doens't sound like ample representation to me. Anyway I'm not saying Trash-MKX is lying, I'm just saying the source might not have his facts straight.

I wanted to say all this when he first posted this in the news section...but you can't reply to those posts.

I read this a few days ago and was suspicious. Not to mention a little unhappy at Robin and the Flash being in there. At least it's Tim Drake, he's probably the best Robin in official continuity. Would have preferred Nightwing though.

First off, been in the MK scene since '93. I'm sure those left from the a.g.mk days will remember me. I'm not some noob coming in here making up info for attention. As for the "Approximately 20 characters total, this could change", I don't buy that at this point. Esp. from the conversation I had. That "fact" said it could change, I'm pretty sure there will be more then 10-11 per side. At this point, my guess is at 14-20 per side if they wanna ramp up the fun factor. With so many to choose from, both sides, why limite it to 10 each. Thats lame. Every interview has stated the it will be the most obvious choices, so they will go with the characters everyone knows first and works good in the game. As much as I wanna see Booster Gold, Animal Man, Cyborg, Adam Strange, we prolly won't get those characters. But I'm sure there will be at least 1 or 2 surprises in there for us.
And Villains? Hmm..I should have followed up on the "well represented" answer. As that could mean, MULTIPLE villains or just the main, well known ones being represented.

Not many fans outside of comics know more then the main DCU villains - Joker, Lex and the majority of Batman's rouges gallery. Just including some from Batman and Superman's rouges would awesome, but I would think they wanna represent the DCU more, so my guesses would prolly be (and ones that might work good in the game)

Lex (in his armor)
Joker
Deathstroke
Circe and/or Cheetah (have to have a good female ratio)
Amazo
Sinestro
Dr Light

I just hope charcater slots are wasted on 2 different versions of Green Lantern or Flash, since it seems an easy way for Boon "pallet swap" it up and take the easy way with a few additions. If this was a DC ONLY fighting game, I wouldn't mind that. I wish Midway would have done that first, THEN the crossover. I hope at least 1 DCU fighting game is coming from Midway.

Did you see that? I know you're reputable even if I don't remember you from the days of yore (I wasn't internet-active in the 90's) but please don't accuse me of calling you a liar when I clearly said otherwise. I said the SOURCE might be misinformed. The guy you got the info from not you. As for revelations on the roster size being "subject to change" I coulnd't be happier. I always said 24 (12 a side) was a good number but bigger is by no means a bad thing. I just hope Boon sticks with his original statement saying he wants to make each character as good as possible and not just stack the roster with alot of characters that suck. I'm paraphrasing of course but he said something to that effect when asked about the roster in an interview.

lol ok. I agree with the big roster. Maybe not MvC2 big, but a nice 24 or 30 PLAYABLE characters would be nice. And not waste them any any type of boss/sub boss who you can perform normal moves/combos/etc on. I always hated the playable boss characters.

As for the more than one flash and GL, why not include them instead of extra costumes? I've already said I'd like to see Azbats as Batman's secondary, maybe Steel as Supes', Nightwing as Robin's, Donna Troy as Wonder Woman's etc. It's an easy way of including extra characters. They did it in Justice League Heroes and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
It could work with MK too, include characters with similar movesets. Scorpion's alt could be Smoke, Sub's could be Frost, Kano and Jarek, Goro and Kintaro etc.

That sounds neat of course, but it doesn't work quite as well for MK chars...But considering the different versions of the Flash and GL are really the same superhero, just changing the look preserves the plausibility perfectly.

Hehee... I knew Powergirl was going to be "there" on the list. That was so predictable that the DC female character with the largest clevage and most exposure of her cleveage while still wearing a superheroes's uniform was going to be in the list. XD

I don't even like Powergirl very much. Why not just have Supergirl? Or Zatanna? She's dressed like a magician's assistant, totally skimpy.

I really do like Powergirl, not just cos of... you know. And I don't think she's ever been in a videogame before.

I'm most excited for Tim Drake/Robin, it will be nice to see Raiden to. I wonder if he will be good or bad.

I can agree on that.

For some reason, I don't like PG but Zatanna I can live with. O_O

But as I said, I'm not suprised by her presence, considering they realised her anime manga figure alongside a note her clevage was censored (cut-down), but when I saw it on Wednesday in a shop its their still the size of mt. Everest. ¬_¬'

But yes, SG would have made much more sense, but perhaps they didn't two people of practically the same powers and overly powerful race in.

But Powergirl has the exact same problem! She has kryptonian powers just like Superman and Supergirl. If anything have like...Eradicator or something. He's got kryptonian powers but he manipulates energy and shit too.
