MK HD revision

i know some of y`all have thought about it with the new SF HD being made already. i just thought it might be a good thread with ideas from everyone. wishful thinking but who knows?

what im REALLY here to talk about though is a Mortal Kombat (1-3) revison. im sorry to say that after trilogy i began to forget about Mortal Kombat. I gave Armageddon a chance, Deadly Alliance ...played a lot but i didn‘t really like the feel. and i thought the fighting ‘styles‘ were lame. recently the idea of an old school mortal Kombat game has been floating around in my head. the best from parts 1,2 &3. all redrawn characters, HD , i get excited just thinking about the possibilities. what do y‘all think and lets just throw some ideas out there.

* i would like to see scorpion less bulky. his mask with bones is pretty fresh but the shoulders are too big and stick out. i‘d like to see more of a mortal kombat 2 style outfit. slim, cloth, but darker yellow and orange colors.

* kano‘s eye beam would look great redrawn in HD. MK2 gameplay with elements from 1,2,3 and trilogy.

* all that stuff would look good in HD. MK vs DCU has bummed a lot of ppl out because i think everyone has been waiting for the franchise to be resurrected but instead, we have to sit and wait for anoter BS...

* this HD remix would definitely be something to drool over. if theyre gunna follow behind Capcom with each move they make, why did they choose a move Capcom made like 6-7 years ago? and TAKE OUT aspects of what makes Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat? i jus feel so disappointed in this. like we‘re never gunna get the game we‘ve been waiting for.

* i know all that stuffs been said before but with this new REMIXED version i think you wouldnt HAVE to have a whole new game. it would be NEW yes but it would be the same just, you know? more balanced, maybe new backgrounds, maybe some new stuff like old rumors coming true (deadpool hooks, shang ceiling walk) it would be the SH***T!!! :hail:

im on an unfamiliar keyboard so the characters are off kinda. my bad.

Well the trick is that SF are hand-drawn 2D sprites, but MK was digitized actors on a green-screen. The process of making MK2 or 3 into HD would require image manipulation on a massive scale which would probably be prohibitively costly, either in time or the more traditional sense. As for Scorpion having a more MKII-esque costume...as far as I can tell the only thing you'd need to do for that is just remove the pauldrons and give him a plastic mask. His new outfit looks so much like MKII it's uncanny. They even have the same stitching pattern on the cloth.

But overall I totally agree it would be great to see MKII or 3 redone. But they've already re-released the 2D MKs so many times it's just hard for me not to think "Damn it not again, just make a NEW game already". And now with MKvDC holding up MK8 even more it's hard to even think about a remake.

As much as I would like to see the earlier versions of MK "re-done", they are still miles above their 3-D counterparts.

There are 2 things I would, especially being a fan of the 2-D MK's, I would def like to see Trilogy be revived, and fixed. Balance gameplay, remove bosses and fix broken characters, add all arenas, "remix" it in full HD, and make it as arcade perfect as UMK3.

The 2nd is totally new 2-D MK. I cant even imagine with todays technology how ****ng awesome that could be. Shit, take MK: Armageddon, make it 2-D on the MK3/UMK3 engine. That would be flippin sweet.

Hell yeah. It's sad how much they've neglected that game since it came out, especially since every other 2D MK game's been given a revival in some form by now. The few problems that keep it from being the perfect MK are completely fixable, so why not?

As for the HD remix idea, as Glamador said, the classic MKs just don't really lend themselves to such a thing. You obviously can't re-shoot the footage with all the original actors and get them to pull off the movements in the exact same way, and you can't come up with hand-drawn 2D graphics that will match the realism of the digitized fighters. Really, the only way I could see it being done is if they were to use polished 3D graphics instead, but that'd only make it all the more unlikely.

hmm, sum fan huh. i cant believe i forgot about the characters being human sprites and not drawn characters. but anyway, today you can do pretty much anything right?

`..since every other 2D MK game's been given a revival in some form by now.` deathcore, what do you mean?
maybe i`m missing something but i havent seen ANY revivals, but maybe you mean little fixes or revisions to gameplay mechanics and stuff.

`I cant even imagine with todays technology how ****ng awesome that could be. `
Tim you got me smilin jus thinkin about it. it WOULD be f***in awesome an hey, nothing is impossible. =)

`His new outfit looks so much like MKII it's uncanny. They even have the same stitching pattern on the cloth.`

it looks kinda like MK2 imo. kinda. the gloves in MK2 are more like braces (like if you were to sprain your wrist from throwing a mechanical..) the new costume has a FULL ON GLOVE and the bones kinda show from under the mask, i can see what you`re talking about tho.
what IM sayin is jus have a cloth over his skeleton face or maybe just a `hood`, all the other ninjas have the front piece. like a yellow hood with his skull face under that, all dark and gritty. =) tha`d be pretty mean. in MK2 they jus swapped out the colors but in the new one you could change em up just a little bit. little differences like scorpion without the facemask. reptile has to have a mask cuz thats the whole surprise in the game. if your character was playin this dude who looked real an all of the sudden he rips off his sh*t an he`s a f***in reptilian creature! thats crazy. to have him with his mask off already is not .....no.

what if shang could just morph into ppl for their moves only like the beginning movie for ARMAGEDDON? i forgot. where everyone is fighing and he`s against Liu Kang. He could do everyones moves you know and would transform just for the moves themselves. nah, that would be too much. a few secs of transform is good i guess. rain`s costume could be completely soaked. yea yea..i know but really. like he just came out of the ocean. water everywhere. yeaa =) i also think Liu Kang as a zombie is cool too. but that`s just a extra feature like if you were to select Kang and hold down + LP,LK? his voice would change like a slowed down record, really low and deep. but creepy not just deep. and of course his fatalities would change. AWESOME. =D

haaaa, air combat that`s what we have to look forward to? and the Terminator. in MORTAL KOMBAT, the terminator. man. =/

Well I don't want to shoot down the idea completely. I would be giddy at an updated MKII and I'd totally buy it on the Xbox ARCADE if it came out. Hell I'd even spring for and Updated UMK3 or Trilogy (the latter preferred). But at this point I'm far more of a 3D fighter fan (DoA, SC, Custom Robo) and I want to see a continuation of the MK story. So I guess while I would entertain the idea if it arose, I'd be happier with a new 3D MK.

yea, 3d fighters are pretty dope. im on vacation in japan and was at this arcade watchin some ppl play TEKKEN. it was pretty cool man. hadnt been in an arcade in awhile so seein the machine setup like that, where theres 6 screens back to back 3 and 3. the one guy plays against the other guy behind you know? i should have taken a picture but ill go back soon. i got some pics of MK in japan tho. ..what i could find. ill try an upload. jus a few snapshots of some figurines and a tshirt. also japanese versions of MK2 on the saturn and stuff. i was gunna buy a system jus to play it but im glad i didnt. that version suck`d. my bro-in-law is unfamiliar with the game tho so i been wantin to find something to practice with him. all i got is Midway on the PSP wich is ok but we cant battle and the CPU is so f*ckin cheap.

i guess its not worth it for MK to make a revision. not now anyway. id love to see it jus as everyone else would but the cost and all that stuff y`all was talkin about.. i read somewhere that they`re jus tryin to pay the bills or something now, it`s no longer about passion? thats what it seems like. its good fun to imagine what a game like that could be tho. what about the hacked versions of MK with new characters like SNAKE?! wtf. couldnt the hackers who do that sh*t remake a whole new game? i have no idea but, couldn`t that happen or is there already something out? maybe that would F**K the game up more than anything cuz then you`d have a bunch of stuff in there that wouldnt necessarily fit right.

Perhaps "revival" wasn't the best word to use. I was just referring to the emulations of the games that have been released in some way recently (MK1 with the Deception Kollector's Edition; MK2 with Midway Arcade Treasures, Shaolin Monks and PS3 online; MK3 with MAT; UMK3 with Armageddon and Xbox Live Arcade). In that respect, MKT's the only one that they haven't done anything with yet.

Actually MK4 is. (And no, MK4 ISNT 3-D. 3-D characters in a 2.5-D world, hehe)

Other than the home console releases and MKG for the Dreamcast, MK4 hasnt been emulated or ported due to the wierd Zues chip they used to make it. The PSX, N64 & PC versions were all FAR from arcade perfect.
So that would be great if hey included a perfectly emulated version of ARCADE MK4.

(And BTW, what doyou mean "Shaloin Monks and PS3 online"? You cant play it online, but if you have a BC PS3, then you can play the PS2 version)

I just don't include MK4 when I'm talking about the 2D games. Granted the gameplay was 2D, but when I say "2D MK games", I'm only referring to the fully 2D ones.

As for the PS3 thing, I was under the impression that MK2 had been released for Sony's online network a while back (roughly the same time UMK3 was released for Xbox Live). I suppose I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I heard something about that.

Understandable. :)

Oh, I thought you meant Shaolin Monks was online on PS3. Its not, but yes, PSN (Pllaystaion Network) has MKII Rv3.1 with online play, and it is THE best online port of a klassic MK game. (yes, better than UMK3 on XBL & DS, even though UMK3 is a better overall game).

My bad, didnt read it right.

No it's not. MKII is ze best. As for Shaolin Monks, while it's not on PSN it should still work on backwards compatible PS3s and Xbox 360s. But I'm more of a "move forwards" kinda guy when it comes to games. Don't remake an older game unless it's really really really withstood the test of time. Chrono Trigger could do with a remake. But we already got MKSM so if anything I'd like to see another adventure game telling the story of MK3. We could get the privilege of hearing Kabal's excellent Elvis impersonation again.
