Master Boyd was not a jobber. Master Boyd was 15 years past his prime, and had settled into a well-earned retirement as an instructor and promoter of promising young talent. He'd find star pupils and both train them and make sure they would have the resources to succeed as a prize fighter, and Boyd would then get the accolades as their sensei. It's a respectable post-career life for a former martial arts great. So then Shang Tsung comes along and surprises an aging Boyd in some alley and defeats him. That's not a fair or honorable fight. It'd be like showing up to Muhammad Ali's house in the 90's and knocking him out. That's not exactly something to brag about, or to hang over someone's head for having lost.
