Justice League Movie in the Works?

While Disney and Marvel were busy shooting "The Avengers" last year, Warner Brothers quietly began getting its own all-star superhero pic back on track, tapping "Gangster Squad" scribe Will Beall to write "Justice League," based on the WB-controlled stable of DC Comics superheroes.
Warner Bros. had no comment on the top-secret hire, which, due to its timing, was more in anticipation of -- rather than a reaction to -- the box office success of "The Avengers."

Beall has yet to turn in his "Justice League" script, though he has become a favorite scribe of Warners. He's writing the studio's "Lethal Weapon" reboot and its remake of "Logan's Run," which is expected to reteam "Gangster Squad" thesp Ryan Gosling with his "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn. Warners will release "Gangster Squad" on Sept. 7.

Warners originally tried to mount a "Justice League" movie several years ago, with George Miller directing from a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney. That iteration was set to star Adam Brody as the Flash, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman and then-newcomer Armie Hammer as Batman. Back in January 2008, the studio cited a lack of tax breaks as the main reason it pulled the plug on the project, which also needed a rewrite that wasn't possible because of the writers' strike.

DC Comics is a vital component of Warner Bros.' intellectual property, as "Green Lantern" scribes Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green were tapped to write "The Flash" for director Greg Berlanti, while another "Green Lantern" scribe, Michael Goldenberg, was hired to write "Wonder Woman." Additionally, Brad Peyton is working on a new draft of "Lobo," while John Kamps and David Koepp are developing "Spy vs. Spy" as a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard. WB also developed the "Aquaman" property several years ago.

I'll update as more info is released. Lol at this not being in reaction to the Avenger's success. I hope they focus on releasing at least a few separate movies first before they release a JL movie.

ANOTHER EXCUSE TO ADD BATMAN IN A MOVIE

I love this.

I hate DC but anything with Batman in it gets my lady parts moist.

This is going to be in development hell for a long time I think. Cause it involves so many characters and it takes alot of time and comittment to get their movies made. I think they'll just end up desperate to get it done cause of how much money avengers made, and I can see it turning out pretty bad.

Which is a shame, cause I like JLA better than Avengers. I think the dudes in charge of the new Man Of Steel movie should end up taking charge of this. At least we know it will be professionally made.

I think they should do the other remaining individual movies like The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman before putting up a Justice League movie like that. It feels kinda awkward if they don't do the other members I mentioned above.

RUMOR

Christian Bale is in talks to reprise his role as Batman in DC's upcoming Justice League movie, Christopher Nolan will oversee the project, and Man of Steel-helmer Zack Snyder will produce - and possibly direct - if a new report from Latino Review is to be believed.

The website claims that Nolan is now in charge of the entire DCU at Warner Bros., and is in discussions to act as a sort of Godfather to the project, as well as produce alongside Zack Snyder. The studio allegedly wants the film to be set in the same universe as Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, which naturally means a return of Bale's Batman. Not only that, but Justice League would also tie in with Snyder's gritty Man of Steel, which means - you guessed it - Bale's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman would appear in the same universe, in the same movie, at the same time.

As the website correctly notes, Bale wouldn't be against reprising the role, as long as the story was right. "I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work," he told Empire Magazine last summer.

This sounds pretty epic, can't wait to see how it goes down.

I'm definitely not against the choices of the men in charge of the project.

My initial reaction to this was "Bale and Nolan, awesome!", but with a bit more thought on the subject, I really hope that doesn't happen. I don't want to see this version of Batman, which has undeniably the greatest comic-based movie franchise ever, watered down and molded to fit a universe with flying men and god damn Aquaman (nor do I want to see the other heroes arbitrarily "darkened up" to fit the Dark Knight universe).

If Nolan were to be involved in the Justice League movie with a different Batman, then fine, no objections; he could only really stand to make a seemingly ludicrous idea less objectionable. Just please keep this thing away from the DK trilogy. I don't care how butthurt DC and WB are about the Avengers movie.

Not all that happy with the news, although Nolan's version of Batman is great and all, he tends to go a bit to far in trying to ground characters realistically, something I feel wouldn't be great for a movie of the JL scope. If Bale is returning as Batman I hope it wouldn't be set after TDKR timeline or would be a different version of the character. I guess Man of Steel would reveal how well Nolan's influence would work.

Batman is a pretty realistic comic book character though >.>

there are a few villains that aren't very realistic, but Nolan made realistic (Bane)

But two-face/Joker/Scarecrow were pretty close.

I remember when I was FIRST introduced to the justice league, I was like "wtf? what can batman do to help these titans?"

Because in my mind when I've been reading a few comics lately. Batman seems realistic but borderline unrealistic. While everyone else in the Justice league is completely unrealistic.

Anyways if you don't like the idea of the two universes combining don't watch it. just pretend the trilogy ended where it did. They left you a nice ending and everything.

Personally, I'm taking a wait-and-see approach to this because this is just a rumor for now, and if it is true, we still haven't really seen him take on a project like this before, the closest being maybe Inception. Who knows, maybe he can't pull it off, maybe he can.

That last comment is kind of unnecessary, anyway, Critical; it's not like they're overreacting to the idea of Nolan directing the Justice League film, they're simply sharing their feelings towards it. Pretty sure they already have in mind that if this project turns out the way they don't want to turn out, they're just not going to watch it or care all that much about it, and move on with their day

Agreed 100% DCR.
Realism doesn't belong in a Justice League movie where you have characters with superpowers like Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash.
TDK Trilogy was great but that type of realism setting would ruin a JLA movie.

You're right on one thing: TDK Trilogy ended where it did.

They didn't leave you a nice ending, though.
Bruce Wayne faked his own death, gave up the Batman suit, and lives his life with Selina Kyle.
TDKR sets it up so that Blake is the new Batman, and there's no reason for Bruce Wayne to come back as Batman.
Bruce Wayne, in the shitty condition that he's in after Bane broke his back in TDKR, would not be able to help out in the Justice League up to par with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or The Flash.
Let's also not forget that Bruce Wayne is Bankrupt, at the end of TDKR, so even if he wanted to fund the Justice League, he can't because he isn't worth a damn penny after TDKR.

If Nolan wants Bruce Wayne as Batman, he's going to have to retcon some crap, or reboot it, which would weaken and destroy TDKR ending.

^ Spoiler much ^

JEEZ....

However in regards to Joseph Gordon Levitt being batman I think he declined to do Guardians of the Galaxy instead so they would have to drag out Bruce for a true DK trilogy cross over bats.

Which I'm not a fan of them doing given what happens and all.

^ Spoiler much ^

JEEZ....

The movie has been out for 8 months (July 20, 2012).
Spoiler tags don't apply for a movie or game that has been for more than 6 months.
6 months is more than a reasonable amount of time for someone to have seen the movie by now, and it's 8 months old.

No one is complaining that Batman as a character himself is too realistic, just mainly Nolan's version of him. Even though characters like Joker, Penguin etc have no super powers, they have whimsical and a bit of unrealistic elements to them, the reason why we don't see criminals like them in the real world, and that perhaps is what Nolan tried to do with his movies. He crafted Batman and the villains in such a way that it can actually happen for real, taking away a lot of the comic book feel. Introducing Superman to his established series would be like introducing Superman to the real world, which would be detrimental to both Nolan's established franchise and what he wishes to attain.
