James Gandolfini Dead

Damn, what a shame...

The only work of his I've seen is 2001's The Last Castle. The movie's about a 3-star general in the US Army (portrayed by Robert Redford) who is court-martialed for sending troops on a mission in violation of a Presidential order, and is sentenced to 10 years in a military prison modeled after the prison in Ft. Leavenworth, KS. The warden at the prison is an Army Colonel (portrayed by Gandolfini). Well, tension develops between the warden and the disgraced general over the treatment of prisoners, which intensifies when the warden becomes envious of the respect the prisoners have for the general, and I won't divulge any more info than that for the sake of avoiding major spoilers, but I highly recommend that movie.

He was a big guy, so, a heart attack is not surprising, but, I dunno, there are just some people in this world that you don't really think of passing away any time soon, and this was just one of them. James Gandolfini, wtf, that just came out of left field.....sad :/

I hear you. The most recent death that came out of left field like that for me is the guy you see on both my signature and my avatar.

I did find it a little silly that they tried to initially blame it on the spider bite when people knew he liked to drink. Cool dude, though.

The last time I was shocked about a celebrity death was Amy Winehouse, only because she had gotten sober, put on some weight, and seemed to be getting her life on track again. RIP SISTER AMY.

Probably the most shocking of all time, though, was Brittany Murphy.

I was aware of the Necrotizing Fasciitis situation with Hanneman, and have been following that particular health situation as closely as I could. However, I knew Hanneman was the one guy in the band who generally stayed out of the public spotlight in his private life, so while I knew he liked to drink (in fact, drinking's been part of the rock 'n' roll culture since day one, and he's been known to be a fan of Heineken), I was not aware of the severity of his drinking problem until after his official cause of death was released, and this is coming from a Slayer fan since his late teens. Kerry is known to drink Jagermeister, but I know from his own admission that he does not abuse it.

Winehouse, on the other hand, I knew was an accident waiting to happen, because the only thing I've ever heard about her is drug abuse issues left and right. The only thing that shocked me about her death was the fact that she died at the same age as Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain, placing her in the "27 Club" (although her self-destructive lifestyle certainly made her a candidate to join that infamous club).

The general rules of joining the 27 club are that you're an accident waiting to happen.

RIP
