My knock-off list wasn't merely referring to aesthetics.
Palette swap costumes for ninjas and other characters = /= knock-off.
Those are 2 totally different subjects in and of themselves.
- Sheeva was a female Shokan because people wanted to play as Goro, but she didn't have his moves.
- Kitana, Jade and Mileena, aside from being palette swaps, had NOTHING in common as far as gameplay goes.
- Baraka was not female Mileena, nor was Mileena female Baraka.
Baraka was Tarkatan, whereas Mileena was created Mileena as a clone of Kitana, by Shang Tsung's sorcery for Shao Kahn, using Tarkatan physiology.
Regardless, Baraka and Mileena don't play anything alike and have COMPLETELY different move sets.
- Again, aside from the MK1 Reptile and Smoke examples that you used, palette swap =\= knock-off.
You, unfortunately, aren't able to distinguish between the 2 very well.
The ninjas were palette swaps due to memory constraints of the past games.
As you can CLEARLY see in MK9, none of the ninja costumes are the same.
Characters and costumes took up lots of RAM memory, in the past.
- I'll agree with you on Smoke.
Cyrax's net trap was nothing like Sub-Zero's freeze.
- Again, not knock-off since they didn't share move sets.
Palette swap? Yes.
Knock-off? No
- Kitana and Sindel were very different in gameplay.
Again. Similar uniform properties =\=knock-off. Palette swap.
- MK would have had completely different costumes for the ninja characters had the memory limitation not been there.
I could go on, but you're putting palette swaps and knock-off characters in the same category, even though they are 2 completely different subjects.
Using my 3 examples in my previous post:
Frost had Sub-Zero's Ice Slide, Ice Puddle and her ground freeze was an adapted version of Sub-Zero's Ice Puddle move.
Jarek had ALL of Kano's moves in MK4 AND his heart rip fatality.
Shujinko had Scorpion's spear, Sub-Zero's freeze, Kobra's flaming fist, Bo' Rai Cho's flip scissor kick, Raiden's flying thunder god move, Liu Kang's bicycle kicks, Sindel's slide and Ermac's teleport slam.
Anyways, you skipped right over the part where I said:

I want to see the MK series move on from MK9, but NRS also needs to stop the copy-paste bullshit for new characters, that happened in the past, and innovate on the new characters like they did with Kenshi in MK9.
