Guess which Characters get Storymode Chapters!

Edit: I changed the topic around. Less guessing and more speculating. So I'll start the speculating with this vague outline:

Netherrealm War:
1. Kenshi fights off invaders and helps Scorpion redeem himself.
2. Johnny Cage becomes Earthrealm Champ.

25 years later/Outworld:
3. Cassie Cage gathers the troops and takes them to Sub'z.
4. Jacqui is playable because she has an excuse to wreck bad guys.
5. Kotal Kahn explains how he got to where he is and gets some shit done.
6. Erron Black helps Kotal.
7. Kano causes mayhem.
8. Kotal Kahn (x2) takes down Mileena.

Back in Earthrealm:
9. Kung Jin fights revenants.
10. Jax represents the old generation.
11. Sub-Zero is a boss.
+ Scorpion gets a fight, he, too, is a boss.
12. Raiden tries to save the day but can't quite hack it.
13. Takeda bookends the story that his father began, completes the passing of the torch.

This list is potentially missing Kung Lao, Kitana, and Liu Kang chapters. I don't think Sonya will be playable - her and JC getting chapters in NRW feels too similar of MK9's first act, and 25 years later she'll be pushing 50 with zero supernatural abilities to speak of.

12 chapters is what Injustice had, so I'm ballparking around there. NRS likes to double up on certain characters' chapters, so I gave Kotal two. And I threw in an extra fight for Scorpion because they like to do that sort of thing too (Liu Kang, Batman).

I recall Ed Boon said all of the chapters in MKX edited into one movie would be around 2 hours. I guess MKX story mode will have the same chapters as MK9. I can see some of the villains like Kano and Reptile getting story mode chapters similar how The Joker and Deathstroke did in Injustice.

How long was Injustice edited into one movie? This might help in predicting the number of chapters.

Kenshi I'm not sure about. I could imagine Kenshi helping Scorpion outside of his own chapter, while other shit is going down. Johnny Cage... I'm thinking about it, there's no real way for them not to have him be playable during that time without it being bizarre, is there? They can't just give Raiden the chapter and then Johnny Cage randomly gets one fight at the end, or something. So I guess his chapter's a given.

Two hours. Despite there being 4 less chapters than in MK9.
 
As much as I don't want to sound bland at all :laugh:, it would be nice to play as some villains in this. Just for the sake of having variety.

Well, seems like there are enough (some would say too much) good guys to support that. I think Kotal is definitely one (even if he isn't a complete villain, of course). I can see one of Kotal's cronies as well, like Erron or D'Vorah.

Injustice let us play as Joker (totally evil), Deathstroke (self-interested anti-hero), Alternate Flash (after his heel-face turn), and Alternate Lex Luthor (surprisingly a good guy). So based on that, I can see NRS being satisfied with Kano (totally evil), Erron Black (self-interested anti-hero), Scorpion (affter his heel-face turn), and Kotal Kahn (surprisingly a good guy).

I wouldn't mind another chapter with a straight up bad guy, though. It makes the story way more dynamic.
 
IDK how else it can be done but I hope its not Character/Chapters. I want all the blanks filled in! I felt in MK9 story chapter it was a way to overpower character. Characters got there asses kicked that shouldn't have. This time around its not a Tournament so it should have to matter about a win.

Of course im gonna use Kano as an example
He was beat by: Johnny Cage (That i can see), Sonya (I honestly don't see her winning against him), Smoke, Kabal and CSZ. You mean to tell me he couldn't have 1 win? Kano is portrayed as this merciless thug who is actually very adept in fighting. Of course its not just Kano its other characters as well. All characters should have that chance to shine and show why you don't cross them!

The only thing is that I can't see Kotal at all being a villain in this. Not after what we've seen in the comics. After reading everything about him, he's not giving off this villain vibe before we learned about his character. I can see him being more of a... lawful neutral character? He's not really giving off a chaotic vibe unless others can see that I don't.

But, since you mentioned that villains were playable in Injustice (I never got my hands on it so I wouldn't know) I guess they might give us some villain chapters.

Even if they don't, I wouldn't mind. I just thought maybe it would be somewhat of a neat little change.

I think that NRS's way of dealing with this will be to make those unplayable characters more threatening in the storymode. So while Quan Chi might never win any actual gameplay fight, we could see him (for example) defeat Raiden while Johnny Cage is fighting Scorpion. Maybe it's not as satisfying as being Quan Chi while he beats Raiden, but the proof that he is a great fighter/warlock/what-have-you will still be on the screen.

We already see this happening with Rain, of all people, kicking Kotal off a building, and Mileena being very scary in cutscenes.

I will say i am very impressed/satisfied with Mileena at this point. To me she sounds more Mature with a hint of childish still there. her new outfit is sexier than ever, which is kind of ironic. She has her Tarkatan Eyes in the game and her sais on her back seem like a good a look. And she has that vicious side i am really really liking

My speculation:

Cassie's chapter is early on. The pic below says so. Yes, it's possible that this bit from the trailer is not from story mode, but I doubt the gang would stop by Sub's home and leave without a fight or two. And Cassie's visit to Sub-Zero's hideout is definitely early in the game, since the way they are named off one-by-one makes it seem like this sequence serves as their introduction.

Kung Jin's is probably later in the game, assuming you take control of him here:

It's possible this is just a red herring (with part of this particular cutscene focusing on Jin) and we're playing as someone else here, but either way I don't see the red cloud business being anywhere near the start of the game.

This seems like it's before the fight above, so Kung Jin's chapter can start here with a fight against Erron or Kotal, and then continue on to Kitana.

For this part, it's also possible that more Earthrealmers arrive to help distract Kotal's goons while the younger team move on towards the temple. They seem surrounded, so I can see back-up like Jax or Sub-Zero swooping in.

We're definitely going to play as Jin, Takeda or Jacqui during their escape, since Erron, Ermac and Reptile are present as guards. Note that Jacqui and Cassie are attacked by Ermac in this very sequence in the trailer, so it might have to be Takeda or Jin if the former two are knocked out.

A Kotal chapter where you take down Mileena feels like a given.

Johnny Cage is very likely if he's the one to defeat Shinnok.

Scorpion seems like the one who would kill Quan Chi after fighting off some good guys (if there's so many good guys on the roster, they need to be fought against often) and getting cleansed by Kenshi. So he and/or Kenshi might get a chapter for the Netherrealm War.

As for who kills the final boss/gets the final chapter... I believe the big bad is Liu Kang, so Kung Jin would make the most sense. They are related, which adds some compelling human struggle to it, and it would be a passing of the torch for an old icon to be brought down by a new character, especially a younger shaolin. Kung Jin's chapter seems to be later in the game and seems to be during the blood cloud, which I assume is Kang's doing, so this sorta adds up.

Hey, I just noticed that Erron's aboard the ship with Reptile there. You can see it better in the actual trailer, but he's kneeling down in front of Reptile as they're both examining something.
 
Not gonna lie, I would LOVE to see the Intro video...but at the same time i want it to be a surprise. IMO MK always has some great intro videos since MKDA!!!

My favorite ones are:
MKDA simply bc Liu Kang gets killed
MKD was eh
MKA was was awesome even with all the characters crammed in it
MK9 was great how it continued from the end of MKA and lead into the story mode of Mk9

MKX has, HAS to top them all!!!!

I want to see it but I don't want to spoil it for myself if it is released before the game. But i need more INFO/trailers
 
If I had to guess from those official, though not in any particular order.

Cassie, Jacqui, Khan, Takeda, Kung-Jin, D'Vorah, Reptile, Erron Black, Scorpion, Erron Black.

Tossing some villains in there, but I can see some of them becoming allies in the Neatherealm segment if they cover it. Outworld and Earthrealm working together out of desperation could be fun.

Oh snap you're right. Seems like Kotal put all his goons to guard the kiddies. I think they're all definitely there to job two or three straight fights against Jacqui or Takeda.
 
I hope Sub-Zero gets a Lin Kuei outfit alternate, those Lin Kuei assassins look beyond badass.
