So after creating a thread asking what people would prefer for the future games of MK, it seemed to be the most popular that people want an entire new game.
The point of this thread is to discuss the potential story arcs for "MK10".
This is a discussion thread based on the spoilers from the MK9 demo leak.

Because both Liu Kang and Kung Lao are dead by the end of the events of MK9, I have a feeling that the White Lotus Society, along with Raiden, will enlist Kai to represent them as a defender of Earth.
Mortal Kombat 4: "A former member of the White Lotus Society, Kai learned his skills from the great masters throughout Asia. He journeyed to the far east after meeting his friend and ally Liu Kang in America. Now they reunite and assist Raiden in his battle against Shinnok."
Armageddon Bio Card: "Once a member of the White Lotus Society, Kai trained under the instruction of Liu Kang. His tutelage complete, Kai wanders the world on a quest of self-enlightenment."

With Kitana dead, I have a feeling that the Edenian hierarchy (Sindel/Jade) will be distraught. With Edenia's queen in a state of confusion/distraught, this would be the perfect opportunity for the Edenian Traitors, Rain and Tanya, to take over Edenia.
Mortal Kombat 4: "As the daughter of Edenia's Ambassador to new realms, Tanya invites a group of refugees fleeing their own world into the safety of Edenia. But soon after Queen Sindel allows them through the portal, she learns that one of the warriors is none other than the banished Elder God, Shinnok. The portal leads into the pits of the Netherrealm itself, and the once free realm of Edenia is now at the mercy of Shinnok."
Armageddon: "The Edenian race is descended from the gods. That is the reason for our longevity, our nobility, and our strength. But I am more than a distant relation to the deities of old. I am a direct descendant of Argus himself. Only recently have I discovered my royal heritage. Quan Chi, an emissary of Shinnok, revealed to me that I am entitled to great power and control of Edenia. My father hid my identity for fear it would complicate his plans for succession. He favored his sons Daegon and Taven and groomed them to one day replace him as Protector of Edenia. But he foolishly tied this plan to a quest to save the realms from Armageddon, leaving open an opportunity for me to seize the power that is rightfully mine. Though it seems the Forces of Light seek to steal the prize from me, Quan Chi has made plans to assure my victory. He and his allies will help fend off the Forces of Light as I make my way to Blaze. But before this final battle, I must ensure that Taven and Daegon cannot challenge my ascension. I will finish them both before they complete their quest."
These are the three that I think will play a big part in the next game.
They're going to make this into Ed Boon's dream: Scorpion Kombat! Or maybe they plan on selling it off to the hoards of Smoke Fans? Either way, the amount of effort put into this story will plummet =) Since it's obvious they have no interest in following what made the original mythos at all unique and fluid! But enough of my moaning.
I think they're going to make Smoke or Scorpion the Eldeer God's "enforcer" and make them the main character especially in the battle against Shinnok. They might use Kitana's soul as a hostage to benefit their invasion schemes.
The ending of the story spoiler doesn't really state whether raiden was successful in preventing Armageddon with the downfall of Shao Khan. Now since Shinock has risen to power ( possibly even more powerful than during the events of original MK4 as it states he built an army capable of capturing both outworld and earthrealm) and with shujinko searching for the rest of the kamidogus to resurect Onaga, I think armageddon has still yet to be prevented and Raiden keeps getting visions from his altered future in the following story.

I have a feeling that Cage would be the next MK Champion in the future story. Some hints given out to suggest this

Liu Kang : What do you see in him? (refering to cage)
Raiden : He is a hero, Liu Kang, though he may not yet know it.
Also Cage's arcade ending although most likely Non canon, suggests that he has a potential to be a great fighter if trained and disciplined. Perhaps Bo Rai cho can fill in the roll as his trainer?

I agree with you completely about Raiden still receiving visions of an altered future. You are right, in my opinion as well, that Raiden hasn't prevented Armageddon with Shao Kahn's 'defeat'. Shinnok and his accomplice will most likely (99%) be the main antagonists of the next game. And as much as a lot of people don't like Shujinko/Deception or Taven and Daegon/Armageddon, both of these games had events that were going on during/before MK1-3.
Boon will either address the issues in the next game, or continue with the story as though they never happened. I honestly hope its the first, and not the second. There is so much that Boon could do with the Onaga arc: Stop Reptile from finding the magic egg, stop Shujinko from collecting the Kamidogu, rescue Blaze from Onaga's holy men. As far as Armageddon: if it gets treated as though the events didn't happen, there goes the Red Dragon clan (which I suppose most people won't care).
