Cross Gen + Unreal Engine 3 = I Think I'll Pass On This One

Or maybe some of us want to see MKX perform at it's true capacity.

Still don't get it? To sum up my last few posts, it would do HORRIBLY in sales. Wait for MK11 to get your true capacity, for now, let the series continue its revival. If you had your way, the game would BOMB in sales, and then we'd be saying goodbye to our beloved series.

There may be many people butthurt about this, but they don't know the economics behind it, its pure blind rage.

At the end of the day, a game engine is just a tool, it's up to the devs to make use of it. MK9 and Guilty Gear Xrd have a completely different look and feel in spite of both using Unreal Engine 3. The latest and greatest technology by itself isn't going revolutionize the series, let alone the fighting genre.

Thank you for this post. Since when does the UE3 restrict NRS to making an exact duplicate of MK9? People seriously need to wake up.

Yes, I pointed that out in my first post. I guess no one read that part.

So you're disappointed in something that inevitably needed to be done for the good of the series. Makes sense...

What's more important, the series' growth and longevity or the engine of one game?

Lol, tell that to Tekken who have been using the exact same game mechanics for SIX iterations, including the Tekken Tag series. And as far as I know, they're the best selling fighting franchise.

Or even Street Fighter to an extent.

Lol not really bro

Tekken 3 got rid of moon jumps and added Oki & sidestepping
Tekken 4 added walls and uneven terrain
Tekken 5 added bound moves which dramatically changed combos
Tekken 6 added destructible environments

Anyway, I don't see why people are surprised that WB is wanting to maximize their cash flow.
MKX will run on a new modified engine, so until we see this game at E3, everybody should just just join hands and lick asshole.

new cod isnt doing last gen....neither is battle field and according to the official sales figures....They shipped roughly 1.8-2 mil on each console in north america alone........the same as mk 2011 did....so you cant say ooohhhh bf an cod can afford to they are bigger...considering those series only outsold it by .8-1m per platform....so...yahhhhhhh last gen

Okay I should've been more specific. I'll use an example this time, say the last game you played was TTT1 and you used Kazuya as your main, chances are if you pick up Tekken 6, you'll be fairly decent with him and won't have to learn how to play as him, as you'll already know the moves/mechanics/button combinations.

Agree with the rest of your post.

Two things. You forgot the second part of my reasoning, is MK as big as COD or BF? Secondly, When MK9 was released, we were well into the life cycle of current gen, with the majority of gamers having switched over. Presently, and probably even into 2015, the majority still won't be on next gen.

Isn't that the point of this thread? To discuss the situation? Take it down a couple notches, dude.

the game will not grow or create longevity as i said if it is just more of the same ...eg u3 engine...mk9 with a new skin....and nothing like the trailer...I mean look at the box art...if it dont look like that...whats the point...

Sorry dude, but I think the answer is a no-brainer. There's more pros than cons for having this game cross-gen, especially at this stage of the next-gen's life cycle. The only con I can see is that they can't use all the latest technology.

The pros however, are continuing to keep MK relevant, everyone can afford the game, Sales will be great, more growth for the series.

I'm probably very passionate about this thread because I find it borderline inhumane almost that people have the audacity/nerve to say that "the last gen consoles had their chance, don't spoil it for the people who have the latest technology". Yeah well, sorry not everyone wants to jump over just yet, or they can't afford it. Do they deserve to be punished for that?

Don't get me wrong, if there are differences between the generations, such as Kontent, I will jump ship to next gen, but for now, I want to save my money. But that doesn't mean everyone else will, especially the casuals, or even some of the die-hards.

Again, just because they're using UE3 doesn't mean it'll be the same as MK9, graphics wise and gameplay wise. Please learn to read.

Best game on the C64, awesome game for the time. Do you think it looked anything like the box art?

Tarkatan Trash is right. Graphics don't play the game. Graphics do not a good game make.

Graphics or gameplay: why is it always one or the other?

Some people need to realize that "next gen" doesn't actually mean anything. UE3 is still a very good and capable engine.

Modified UE3. Does it look "next gen" enough to you?

I couldn't believe my eyes when people actually demanded, or like this thread, boycotted MKX because it isn't "next gen" enough. Next gen as in running UE4.

Please.

This is a new engine. It was made available recently and developers are still learning it.

See how tiny this list is? Would you rather wait another 3-4 years before you got another MK, just because, well, "next gen"? I think not. By the way note the platforms as well on that list.

I would thank you if I could lol, and I noticed absolutely no Xbox One games, why is that?

Lol it can reach it's potential fine. Fighting games don't exactly push the hardware to its limits when it comes to gameplay, only graphics.

It's why super smash bros melee is still arguably the deepest fighter. And it's GameCube generation.

What are you talking about? The deepest fighter ever is Shaq Fu, and if you disagree, you clearly have never played a fighting game in your life.

Anyway, I agree with Critical. I mean, NRS have had plenty of experience with the UE3, so ultimately, I think the gameplay would be better than if the game was made on UE4.
