the thread for discussing plots that screwed over your former view over games you have played

be sure to put up spoiler tags for whatever game you mention

I'll start as usual.

Jak 2 and 3

Spoiler:
in Jak 2, Jak and the gang are sent to the distant future dystopia and are separated ultimately Jak gets caught by Errol and his forces and subjected to dark eco experiments before Daxter finally breaks him out. sometime later on in the adventure Jak encounters a strange mute child whom the resistance claims is the rightful ruler to the throne. the craziest twists occur when Jak discovers that his old home is actually under Haven city and when he goes to rescue the kid who has been kidnapped by Kor who is revealed to be the leader of the metal heads, an army of homicidal monsters. kor reveals to Jak that the kid is actually his younger self

in Jak 3 despite killing Kor the strongest of the metal heads are still running rampant and the people blame Jak for it and in turn exile him Daxter and Peckar from Haven city. eventually he is saved by Deimos, the warrior king of spargus(and former ruler of Haven city). strangley the king. despite his status shows some notable care for Jak eventually culminating to him personally recuing him from a deadly ordeal which gets him killed. with his dying breath he asks Jak to find his son Mar and gives him an artifact that he used to h wear. looking back Jak finds out that it belonged to his past self in Jak 2 but sadly Deimos dies not knowing that all along Jak was his son. oh and the precursors are revealed to be the same species as Daxter.

The ending of Batman Arkham City and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

The story itself is pretty linear and straight forward but when the ending movie after the credits start rolling.....jaw=dropped.

Spoiler:
To know that your beloved hero, Gabriel Belmont who fought and killed vampires, Lycans and creatures of the dead to avenge his wife and save the world, to turn into a vampire himself...and not just any vampire...the king of them, Dracula himself. This is surely the most shocking ending I have seen in any game especially after spending a good 20+ hrs, learning, developing and connecting with the character.

Starcraft Brood WAr
Spoiler:
In Starcraft Brood War, Alexei Stukov

Stukov was appointed as second-in-command of an expeditionary force to bring the Koprulu Sector and its inhabitants under UED control. Serving under Admiral DuGalle, Stukov departed Earth for the galactic fringe and fights against Zerg and Protoss and occasionally other humans as well.

When a Confederate Psi Disrupter was discovered on Tarsonis, Duran convinced DuGalle of the need to destroy the device. Stukov however, believed the Disrupter to be a useful tool to the UED and sent his personal guard to relieve Duran after he had secured it. Without telling DuGalle, he had the Disrupter secretly dismantled, transported to Braxis, and reassembled.

Later in a battle against the dominion, Stukov was surprised that they were able to use Zerg (seemingly mindless) as a part of their army. And he found out Duran had moved his troops to allow the Zerg to fall in and attack.

Alexei stukov ran from battle under suspicion and went back to Braxis to activate the Disruptor.

DuGalle was livid, especially since Duran was goading him about how stukov was a traitor. He ordered Duran to execute Stukov for treason against the UED, a task Duran gladly accepted. Stukov's personal forces resisted the UED, but eventually Duran located Stukov and shot him, Duran promptly vanished.

With his dying breath, Stukov told Admiral DuGalle that Duran had been manipulating him from the beginning, was almost certainly infested by the zerg and may have been for a long time. Stukov's last words were punctuated when the outer walls of the Psi Disrupter were breached by a massive wave of zerg, triggering alarms and possibly setting off the Disrupter self-destruct sequence.

Dugalle couldn't handle killing his friend and trusting Duran, and eventually shot himself.

What seemed made the twist great was why you didn't understand alexei just when you needed him most ran away to activate something Alexei was told to destroy. He was using it to manipulate to zerg to save their forces.

Tragic hero death story.

Starcraft is Not afraid to kill off key characters.
