4 more years?

Apparently, Injustice 2 will be the next game from NRS, It's not being announced @ e3 because if it were, we would've heard something about it by now. So we'll get Injustice 2 in 2017 for MK's 25th anniversary :( and THAT my friends I'm not too happy about because I'm not interested in DC stuff and I'm not getting any younger.

MK11 is likely going to be released in 2019, 4 years away. I don't even know if I'll still be a fan of the series in 4 years. Therefore, I kind of hope that WB decides that another developer handle MK11 while Boon fanboys over Flash and the other DC characters with Injustice 2.

I don't think I can do another 4 year wait like what happened between MK9 and MKX.

Does anybody else feel the same way?

I also feel the same way. Although i'd be ok waiting if instead of giving a komplete edition, we get an updated game expansion every year or so..kind of like how street fighter does it where they add more characters and stages (SSFIV, SSFIVAE, USFIV);I think that would tie me over personally, and i wouldnt mind the wait.

We really do live in an age where people want more and more as fast as possible, and just can't get enough of it.
Greey greedy greedy.

I've been a MK fan for nearly 20 years and I still love it today. I think this is apart of the MK cycle. This is how I view the MK cycle:

STAGE 1: NEW GAME ANNOUNCED (June -> September)

- Early of the year, info for the next game is starting to buzz
- New MK game announced at E3 and hype blows up on the web
- Scorpion, Sub-Zero and a few other characters are shown off
- One new character announced in July and other new interviews from Ed Boon are made
- Another new character shown off in August and more new interviews from NRS
- Another new character in September
- April release date announced
- No new info from October - December and fans freak the out
- Fans about how the last MK game had more info release weekly

STAGE 2: PROMOTION CYCLE (January -> March)

- It's the new year and waves of more info is release
- More new characters weekly during each month before the game is released
- New merchandise is release like comics, t-shirt and action figures
- Live streams showing off the characters
- Season Pass announced
- Guest characters announced and everyone freaks out
- Ed Boon mention possible later DLC on the road
- Someone leaks out the whole character roster and story mode before the game is released

STAGE 3: GAME RELEASE (April -> August):

- The game is release and gets amazing reviews
- The game's online is buggy as hell until gets patch
- DLC is release monthly until August
- Final DLC is release in August and NRS is done with MKX to work on their next game

Just repeat the same cycle in 2017 - 2018. We went through pretty much the same cycle in 2010-2011 and 2014-2015.

By 2019, I think the PS5 and X4 might be out by then. Nintendo's newest system is rumor to be out by 2017, giving the Wii U a 5 year run. I think if the PS5 and X4 are out by 2018 then MK11 might be another cross gen game. It will be funny if the PS4 and XO versions of MK11 get push back again.

I hope they expand MKX with DLC, with more stages and characters and 5-10 more story chapters. If they're going to make us wait for ages, why not expand the life of the game like what Blizzard did with StarCraft 2?

I think the DLC will likely end in August going how the MK cycle has been for the last 4-5 years. Injustice did really well, so it makes sense for a sequel to be made. Not to mention a Justice League movie is set to be out in 2017, so it makes sense for NRS to cash in on that movie as well.

If the XBox 360 lasted 10 years, I believe it will be the same with the PS4 and XBone.

I'm all for the 4 year cycle. I don't want to play MKX 2.0. Now that they've learned how next-gen works, I believe they will put more way more content, characters, stages, and story length. They can now use the UE4 to make the graphics and gameplay better. They'll have 2 extra years to go towards development rather than the engine. Also with no need for the last-gen version by then, they'll have a lot more finances to put solely towards that game. MKXI should be the best MK game by then.

That makes sense.

However, I hope that another developer makes an MK related game to tie us over until MK11, like a non-canon action game similar to Shadows of Mordor and Witcher 3 with TONS of things to do and you can play as different characters from the series ala GTA5, that would be sweet.

I personally wouldn't hesitate if there was so called Super MKX like in SFIV or multiple seasonal content a'la KI and SFV (rumored), because even though I think MKX is pretty good and fun gameplay wise (HVS can still go to hell because of PC version), its competetive gameplay and scene isn't that exciting. Mainly because of 95 % of American contenders and characters not having as unique gameplay / ultras (x-rays) or interesting players as in Street Fighter.

And also I'm against sequels in every 2 years because if it was the case, I'm pretty sure NRS' ideas would be dull and uninteresting in terms of.. well pretty much everything. Updates could refine and add more excitement to the scene so I think it would be the best way.

I can wait. I waited from between MK9 to X, I can wait again. There's a massive amount of games to play if you ever tire of X in the mean time.

^ this I hardly have the time to play the games I have now.

But the problem is this:

When Injustice 2 comes out, MKX will be dead. This happened with MK9 also when Injustice came out back in 2013...

Two and a half years MAXIMUM between sequels. Anything longer than that is unacceptable. I want MORE MK games, because less isn't more, more is more.

Injustice can either be outsourced to Rocksteady, or it can go to Hell.

I love Injustice, so it doesn't bother me at all.

However seeing it from other people's perspectives; I think the best and most realistic solution would be for NRS to work on Injustice 2 (Or maybe another new IP) while a 3rd party company, maybe Platinum, simultaneously works on Shaolin Monks 2. That way non-Injustice fans can get their MK fix and Boon doesn't get burnt out on Mortal Kombat games.

MK needs to be forcefully shoved down the mainstream's throats the same way the likes of CoD is. That's why 4 years is excessive.

I think BBBLP line of sight is the most coherent to my opinion.

While we keep going on the period of time we are right now, and the games that succeed this may not be, and even shouldn't be, released right now, games that explore other scenarios (past stories, realms) and using different approaches (like adventure) would keep the universe expanding. They could be released, without becoming CoD style (gaming pornography).

But this excuse that 4 years would make any of you stop liking MK makes no sense for me, unless you are a casual who only wants the superficial MK, which is something incompatible with a 20 years franchise with deep lore and always improving their story.

I'd love to see the next MK in two years time too but it's not gonna happen. Injustice sold well enough to make a sequel and a lot of people ask for it anyway. personally, I love the fighting system and visuals of the games NRS makes (although I will play SFV a lot too) and I did like injustice too, so I look forward to the sequel. ideally, I'd love it if another company took over the making of injustice but kept the same fighting system style so we could have NRS focus on MK games for earlier releases though
