Thats a gameover message, but theres one tree you can not feed its in the area where smoke is before you into the portal to the pit 2, i wonder how that tree could be fed...
 
You can't because there are no monsters there remember. I think it's to look good to match the Living Forest
 
Actually, you can feed it by killing yourself. This has already been covered. Apparently, there was supposed to be an extra boss battle that would be unlocked by feeding that last tree, but they scrapped the idea due to time contraints and forgot to remove the game over message.

Yes i can verify for that. kill yourself in the fire and a cutscene will show a tree eating you.
 
Sorry about the double post no clue how it showed up again. I hate those trees. I kept getting eaten there so i didn't play for a day.
