Okay, here is a tutorial for modeling a three-dimensional object for first-person shooters. In this tutorial we will be creating a gun, but with your creative self, you can model whatever you like.

NOTE: Before proceeding in this tutorial you must have basic knowledge of vertices, faces, and polygons.

Resources:
BLUEPRINTS- http://blueprints.onnovanbraam.com
MILKSHAPE- http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/
PHOTOSHOP- http://www.adobe.com

First, let me describe to you the significance of each of these resources. The blueprints are what you are using as a reference, the site listed above has thousands of blueprints of guns, vehicles, buildings, etc. Milkshape, in case you don't know, is a modelling program used to create guns and other models for games such as Quake, Half-Life, etc.

Step 1: Go to the site and look for a gun to model. In my tutorial we are going to be using the IMI Desert Eagle .357 Magnum. When you click on the name, a new window will open, showing the blueprint of the gun. Right click this image and save it as anything.

Step 2: Open up Milkshape. Take a few minutes to get used to the controls, and once you are, right-click in the area of the first quadrant (the top-right square). Select "Choose Background Image..." and select the image of the gun.

Step 3: Okay, what we want to do in Milkshape, is put vertices around the outline of the gun. Unfortunately, the color of the vertices are white, which is the background color. Before we do this step, we are going to open our blueprint in photoshop, and replace the background with a darkish red color.

Step 4: Now that this is done, before we continue you want to replace the background image with your altered image. Now, lets begin with the vertices. Click "Vertex" on the menubar on the right side of the screen. Proceed to then click on areas around the gun to make an outline. You may need to zoom in and out at times, and this can be accomplished by using your mouse wheel. You may also want to make your view a little more easy to edit. To do this, choose Windows > Viewports > 3 Windows (1 Left, 2 Right). Then right click the larger rectangle and choose Projection > Left. View the image for reference.

Save now, because on the next part of the tutorial, we will finish up the outlining, and work on making the gun look realistic.
