MKX introduced some great new gameplay features and improvements in many areas theres no denying its a fantastically made fighting game and the game does handle beautifully....
1.the smooth animations, the movements of the characters are great.
2.environment traversing, being able to bounce off the environment adds more fun and depth to the game play
3.running, putting the run back in keeps the game flowing without constant dashing
so all that being said why do i find myself preferring MK9s gameplay?
i think the problem/difference for me is that MKX is slightly too fast it feels unnatural like its always on a turbo mode.
a lot of the moves and combos go by so fast its just a blur so its hard to enjoy/appreciate.
its the same feeling i get when watching a movie fight scene that has shaky cam
you cant really make out whats going on therefore cant get invested in the action.
then add to that the really distracting backgrounds right up close to the characters and and the game just becomes messy to look at
ive been playing a few days now and my main concern is that the game for me is starting to tread in the same waters as injustice did...
where i played it for a few days and each day lost a little more interest because the gameplay and visuals just weren't very satisfying
yet with MK9 i genuinely enjoyed it and woke up each day exited to play it because i loved the gameplay and how it felt.
its a shame for me because like i stated the improvements are great but theres just something about the way the game handles and looks that leaves me feeling 'meh' even though i can still do the impressive lengthy combos like in MK9 the satisfaction level is nowhere near the same because most the combos are just a lot of flashing its hard to tell what the characters are even doing
i would of preferred they stuck with the fighting engine they made for MK9 and just updated the graphics and added the run and have a few things from MKX like the environment traversing and the smaller reaction time window after blocking a special.
and as for the stages i think they need a complete re-think on those because its just way to messy. the fighting in MK9 looked much better because it always felt like the characters were the main focus where as MKX stages feel like theyre trying to steal the spotlight.
and the stages in MK9 were better designed to be more like actual stages/platforms so everything worked visually
so im hoping the next game the developers can take the best of both games and deliver an MK that looks and plays to its full potentail
