Quan Chi Thread - "You will serve me in the Netherrealm"

Thanks for the advice guys. Learned a lot on my Kitana vs Quan Chi match-up. Buffing while Kitana is throwing aerial fans is a nice 'screw-you!' tactic. But against Mileena, yes, I can find her easy to read, but blocking her mix-up all game isn't going to give me a win. When she's inside and I'm blocking her strings, when she finishes a string I have nothing fast enough to hit her with before she starts the next string. Best I have is wait for her to roll/tele-kick and punish with b+2, dash, b+2, dash, b+1 1, Trance, jp, 1 1 2, groundblast. It does really good damage, but it's hard to pull off and most the time she has a breaker. I may just need practice against her to find my own answers, I think. Kung lao is still stupid. Almost an automatic lose for me every time unless I play my Raiden or Ermac. Noob Lao's are easy, but Kung Lao's that know what they're doing? That's where he almost becomes a game-killer. Hell, when a good Kung Lao player steps into my KOTH lobbies, I suddenly have to make a new one otherwise I'll be spending all my time watching people try and fail to defeat Kung Lao. Kung Lao match-up strategies are so much easier said than done. The moment Kung Lao is picked on the Character Select screen, my kombat strategy is automatically set to defense, which is stupid. I guess I want more offensive options rather than just holding the block button and hoping to God Kung Lao screws up somewhere.


I would just like to add king lao and kitana both spend plenty of time mid air which is the perfect time to throw out a skydrop, and if lao is using his flying kick you simply hold the direction he is moving in, dont do it to late if the are grounded they can block of course. Also kitana & lao have slow animation for projectiles so skydrop+mixup combo, and you will be that tougher to beat!. Good luck!
 
You invited a great addition to the discussion, who do you guys think pairs best with Quan Chi in tag battle?

I like to use Kano for the rushdown and anti-rush, and Kanos 2,1,2 fast tag sets up a trance from Quan, not to mention Kano is my second main to Quan cheese.

funny someone asked about quan tag partner's..

i've been working on finding a good tag partner for quan
and have come up with some really awesome result's.

1:raiden, 48% 2 bar metre combo.. high damage combo's because of raidens ex projectile link, plus raidens a solid char on his own if they get past your quantag traps.

2:shang tsung,REALLY good resets, trance can set up for shangs harder to start combo's for good damage (40%)
plus they're the deadly alliance!

3:reptile, his assist's work well with quan, you can use reptiles enhanced ball then charge up to them with quans mix ups and either you connect and the force ball hits at the end of your combo, or they block but cant punish because of the ball, or you could skydrop safely as the ball protects you.
plus, quans up-x medium can be cancelled out of with an assist, reptile's low slide, so thats a medium,low.. works well in combination with his back-x 1+2.. low medium..

not as good choices but note worthy:
sheeva, she has strong combo's but they're hard to hit.. so.. use quans forward-1,2,trance, then switch sheeva in for some 40% no metre damage!

noob: i've created some crazy trap strings with these two.. combo to trance, 1,1,ex ghost ball, oppponent cant block and they're direction control's are reversed.. so makes it very difflcult to escape, then follow with any mix up, forward-1,2 | back-x,1+2 | up-x..etc followed by trance.. then repeat!


cyber sub,cyrax,: bust out a few bombs, then when they're jumping, tagassist sky drop, or switch quan in for a trance or normal skydrop to catch em out of the air. or trap them on the bombs..

i've tried nearly everyone with some other cool little tricks..
 
Thanks for sharing man I didn't know he was that powerful with Raiden. I think he's most fierce with noob because of those resets, Quan use to have an infinite with Noob before it was patched, I bet no one heard of it.


Also, did you try pairing him with Kano? They got bnb's over 50% damage that require only 1-2 bars of meter.

when you do back 2,1 you can follow up with forward 1 into tag assist, Kano will throw his knives, it gives you enough time to dash to do b1,1 into trance. End the combo with 1,1 enhanced ground burst or Kano's cannonball by tagging him in. Adding jump-ins, you get about 52% damage.

Just asking anyone else working on Quan Chi, has anyone made use of skeletal boost in actual matches? I don't like that the regular version is random, why use meter for both boost effects when you can save for rune trap strings?

i must say i overlooked kano coz i didnt see much potential with his assists, but now i know that the knife acts like a juggle i will be playing with that! thanks!
easy xray with kano you could try forward-1,2 trance, switch kano in then xray
simple but effective.
i did it with jax and its like 45% +
but i guess you better off just using the metre for rune traps.

let me know what else you come up with dude, im heaps interested in tag combo's ESPECIALLY with quan.. gotta love that trance..

i have a couple
(can all start with jump punch)

back-2,1,| 2,1,2-trance | jp-back-3,3,mid rune. (32% no metre)

forward-1,2-trance | back-2,1 | 2,1,2, skull projectile. ( 28% no metre)

back-3,1+2 | 1,1,2,-trance |jp-back-3,3,mid rune. (30ish..cant recall)

just started using { jp-back-3,3,mid rune.}
{instead of 2,1,4, or forward-1,2,1+2)

as a combo ender if im saving metre for a rune trap

i know of these combo's but do you actuallly pull them of consistantly ?? if so welldone, but i struggle with the first one,
getting the b+2,1, to b+2,1 consistantly so i drop the second b+2,1 all together as i screw it up it too often online, so i'd rather get 30% guarenteed.

is the second one enhanced skydrop?
 
45% damage bnb, only 1 bar of meter

Towards jp, B2,1, Trance, Towards jp, B2,1, Dash, B2,1, Dash, B1,1, Medium Range Groundblast (ex version).


This is takes a bit time to master.

A more pratical version, if you struggle landing the first B2,1 on any opponent, just B3, 2+1 into trance first. Follow up with the rest of the inputs and you'll get 43% instead.

These two I posted and explained are the bnb's I usually use, I usually go around 40% when doing bnbs, it just takes time to adjust. Sometimes, I like to end my combos with back 2,1 into jump kick skydrop.

Depending on my opponent and their character choice, I do certain combos

when you knock an opponent down from the air with skydrop, immediately following up with either up 3 or back 3 is even harder for the opponent to predict because of their recovery from the knockdown and your recovery from the landing, its sorta like a 50/50. Sometimes I even end with 1,1 with teleport to the opponents rear, so inputting their wake-up attack is more difficult.

However, you have to remember some opponents like to wake up after being knocked down for the most part, it takes mindgames to convince your opponents to block rather than wake up throughout the match, Quan is all about prediction, mindgames, and gimmicks.

I reallly do wish I can share footage of actual matches I have with Quan Chi, on and offline, being able to hold my own by beating stronger players with these tactics.

Been having a lot of luck starting my combos with B+3, then trance. You don't even have to hit 3 again for trance, just B+3 then F will begin trance. Works wonders I tell ya!

new xray combo:

Jip b+2,1,trance, b+2,1,b+2,xray = 50%

yes fifty, and its easy as! you can replace the last b+2, with anything really(2,1) and it does the same damage. i just prefer b+2, its neater.

66% with damage boost.

I didn't used it because i often missed one of the 2 kicks. i will make an update in the next days and add a few missing combos.

if you Jip(jump in punch) before the b+3,3 it will always hit,
its a good combo ender after trance || Jip,b+3,3,mid rune.

play around with b+3,1+2 thats ONE and TWO together.
great starter, as its low to medium.
