Confused about fatalitys

Well let me just start off by saying hello fellow Xbox and Ps2 MKD players!
I have a question about fatalitys, i cant seem to get any off at all, i dont see the fatality word at the bottom, and i know im doing them correctly, can anyone give a tip on how to make them work?

do you change your stance (L on xbox or L1 on PS2) to the fatality style so your guy doesnt move when you key in the fatality?
I had a little trouble getting the sweep range down, which to me is hitting back 3 times when close to them to get me into position. other than that make sure you not hitting the directional buttons too fast.
after i got the sweep range down i haven't had a problem since.
