$21,000 MK9 Tourney - Las Vegas, NV - May 14th-15th - 10K first place

DCP, if you wish, you can adopt the headphone style to kill nervousness. A lot of tournament players do this. Bring some headphones and an ipod and play loud music during your match.

I was thinking of doing that, but that might make me too jumpy. You know? I can try it out though. Hopefully it works lol.

You realize the tournament is being held by PDP, the company that made the official fight stick bundled with the game right? Its a promotional event for the company and the game. Of course they will only allow you to use their stick, its the whole point of holding the tournament.

If they're wanting to attract new customers, you'd think they'd want people who don't use it too. Anyone that is used to playing on the stick will already have one, so that's not gonna attract new customers (which is the point of a promotion), but allowing anyone you use what they're used to using will.

yah do it i've been to many local ssf / mk3 tournaments and they seem to play as good or better then the ones with out. not to mention when i play at tournaments i play softer music it helps calms the nerves just a tip.

Re: Mortal Kombat 9 PDP Tournament

I am! :)

Just finished a little while ago. I'm pretty freaking nervous. This is my first big event. Great players, Sponsors, huge cash prizes. I'm overwhelmed :l

I find it best to pound down a few beers before (and during).

I'll try it out, we'll see how I play with my headphones on now.

I don't drink brah, but I could see how it would help.

The Mortal Kombat National Tournament will only be played on the Mortal Kombat Fight Stick by PDP. These Mortal Kombat Fight Sticks will be provided for use at the tournament, but now would be a great time to start practicing on one.

Want to relive your arcade glory days?
Order the Mortal Kombat Fight Stick and experience Mortal Kombat 9 as it was intended.

The ballroom will be open at 10:00 AM for practice on the PDP Mortal Kombat Fight Sticks for 360.

Pools 1 through 4 will play matches from 12:00 Noon-4:00 PM on Saturday, May 14. You MUST check-in at your pool 30 minutes before your match or risk disqualification.
Pools 5 through 8 will play matches from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM on Saturday, May 14. Again, you MUST check in at your pool 30 minutes before your match or risk disqualification.

The top 2 players in each pool qualify for Sunday's Finals; 8 in the Winner's bracket and 8 in the Loser's bracket.
The ballroom will open at 10:00 AM on Sunday, May 15 for practice sessions, and the Finals will begin at 12:00 Noon.

Each set of 4 Pools will be run simultaneously on Saturday. You can email Tournament Host Jason Wilson directly with any questions at jason.wilson@pdp.com.
A few rules to reiterate before we go:

Players are able to change their button configuration if necessary before their tournament match
Games will be 2 out of 3 rounds, best 2 out of 3 games
The winning player MUST stay with the same character, and the losing player may switch characters
No game-breaking glitches (Parry glitch, infinities, etc.) are allowed
Judges will enforce these rules and disqualify players if necessary from the competition if these glitches are used

If you have not yet made your hotel reservations, now is the time! We have great rates on rooms at Bally's and you can reserve by clicking the "Reserve Rooms" button on our website http://pdptournaments.com.

We welcome you to the PDP Tournament and we'll see you in Las Vegas!

Yeah, I will be there. I am in Pool 1

Been playing MK 1 and 2 and SF2 since 1991 down here in South Florida. Pretty much went to the arcades every day after school to play those games. I can still remember the day SF2:CE came out, there was this bowling alley down here that was the first place to get it and I walked in and there was like 50 people in line.

With that being said, I have never been to a fighting game tournament. Pretty excited and nervous for this PDP one.
Hope to figure out a way to meet people and play money matches or whatever.

Later.

Couple days left guys, DCP, hope you're training your ass off :p

Hope you took notes from the previous tournaments just to get a clue of how your opponents play. I'd probably try to figure out as much match ups as I can.

Oh dude, once I get home from school I play for hours. I have all tournament streams starting from Powerup recorded and I review them over and over. I've got my game against Kung Lao pretty much figured out. Raiden still gets me here and there. Not too worried about zoners like Reptile or Sub, I tend to do well against them once I get in close. Nevertheless I'm still pretty nervous. Once I start playing I should be fine though.
