As you can see, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will be pulling out all the stops with building custom arcade-style cabinets for demoing the game at the meeting. The mockup images of the cabinets feature the well-known classic Midway design, a MadCatz tournament arcade stick and a large LCD screen attached above the cabinet for crowd viewing.

Here's hoping that the kiosks / arcade cabinets make it to actual GameStop stores!

In addition to this GameStop employee only event, the public will also be able to play Mortal Kombat soon! We've gotten word that Mortal Kombat (2011) will be playable at GamesCom Germany next week, as well as at PAX Prime 2010 in Seattle early next month. This cabinet could make an appearance at those events as well if it's been created already. We hope to hear from fans once they get their hands on the game.

Only one controller in the cab? If they're gonna build an entire cabinet and "pull out all the stops", why not build custom controllers so they could resume the old-school layout (the SF layout doesn't work AT ALL) while including two controllers?

Other than that, I fapped.

Yea i totally agree. The one player and SF stick make NO effin sense. wtf are they thinking with that? I even have friends who have modded a TE stick with a MK3 layout, not to mention all the Arcade-In-A-Box owners with a MK3 stick (like myself). That just seems ignorant imo.

But yea, other than that, i fapped.

and got jealous of my best friend, who is my manager at Gamestop. lol

Keep in mind this is a concept image we got a picture of, not a final actual unit. It may have just been mocked up from existing parts to be cheaper to make. We'll see what really appears when/if the time comes.

Also keep in mind they may not view a MK-Layout as what they want for MK 2011. Just saying.

yea but i believe Hec already confirmed that MK9 control layout would be like classic MK, but instead of High Punch or Low Kick, it would like (gasp!) Bloodstorm because of the Front Punch, Back Kick etc.

But i hope its just a mock up. What made MK special was that it was MK, not a SF clone etc.

Yeah, I know they might feel this way. Being that they're using a dash in this game, there's no need for a run, so they may change it, but I think simply removing the Run button (so that it's like MK 1 & 2) is still best.

Unless, of course they're not gonna have a block button, either. Then, I just don't know. lol

What was referring to was the LAYOUT of the buttons. Sure it's got the pre-MK3 button setup, but an official joystick may just stick to using a six button layout with two in the middle just to make the product compatible with other games. This game doesn't have an arcade layout of it's own since it hasn't existed before in the arcades. Having two blocks in the middle don't make a big difference to me.

Yeah this would be cool to get a hold of for sure. Id imagine anyone with it will have quite a collectors item because this probably won't be mass produced..

Lets hope that mockup is way off from the final product. Sideart is from Deception, arcade cabinet is not the old school MK shape, (would be ok if it was different but this shape is horrid), 1 player WTF? Street Fighter style layout? WTF? Surely not!!! We need a MK1 cab shape, 2 player, actual built in joysticks and buttons with MK layout and MK 2011 sideart. Now that would be SWEET!

The new Mortal Kombat is getting a cabinet, and you guys are whining over the minor details of a cabinet that isn't even finished? Some people are never satisfied, and some of you sound like women.

It'll be interesting to see if they stick with the 6-button layout for the final design, but do we know for a fact that the layout mirrors the classic one? I know we have the back/front punch/kick thing, but are the punches on the left with the kicks on the right, or are the punches going to be on top with the kicks on the bottom similar to the last few games? I don't think I've seen anyone specifically detail that.

So whining about the whining of other people is better? Stop it. Half the posts you make are like this and I'm sick of it. There's a difference between focusing your negativity on the discussion of a video game and focusing it on the people who share an opinion about a video game because you can't stand someone not agreeing with you. You want to tell someone to man up? Try it out for yourself.

Is it too much to hope that maybe, just maybe, a couple of cabinets make it to the arcades?

And you sound like a chauvinistic prick. Seriously, it's people like you that give the gaming community a bad rap.

Having a demo of a game that's heavily focused on 2-person play means having 2 controllers is an essential, and I don't think the comments about the button layout is anywhere near "whining", either.

would be kool if two cabinets could be linked together, but with such a small number, i dunno. if it has a ps3 or xbox on the inside then 2 players is easily possible.

Does anyone know what kind of button layout the new MK uses? If it will even be the same as the classics?

Nope, nobody knows just yet. The least we can expect is a control config option so that we can customize the buttons to work for the 6-button SF layout. (Since running is replaced with dashing, they're probably eliminating that altogether.) At best, we'll get a controller with a 5-button old-school layout, but I'm not holding my breath. MK is the only game that would use it, and that's not something most people are willing to pay $100+ for.

Oh ho ho. :)

Thank you! We need more people to stay on topic rather than have them try to purposely take down others. Thank you! And putting down others is not a manly thing too. ;-)

Now about the arcade... I can't wait to play it in public when I'm probably at the movies and in another arcade place. It'd be very fun to face off against strangers. As long as they are not too cheap. lol :)
