Stuck in setup menu in MK1

So I finally set up MAME on my PC again after my last OS update, and I went into the setup menu in MK1 to set it to free play and whatnot. When I try to exit the menu, I get a screen saying the switches are closed, open switches to resume the game or hit any button to go back to the setup screen. How do I open the switches to get back to the game? I'm having a brain cramp over here.
 
You have to bring up MAME's in-game option screen by pressing 'Tab', then go to 'Dip Switches' and turn "Test Switch" off. Once you do that, hitting any button should actually let you get out of there.

I don't know how old my version of MAME is, but I'd assume the options aren't much different now.
