Mortal Kombat Arcade EEPROM Service

I'm leaning towards starting up a Bootleg/Old Version Mortal Kombat Arcade ROM Service. I know fairly well how it all works, figured I can make a few dollars and help out fellow owners of the games. I'll do old versions, rom hacks, etc. I want to do this for myself, and figured I can also help out others as well at the same time.

I'll also do games like Killer Instinct, etc that I own and can test. I've already made replacement KI1+KI2 hard drives with Flash Cards myself years ago, and now I see them all over eBay.

Re: Mortal Kombat Arcade ROM Service

I'm not sure what it is you're suggesting. You mean you're going to put the roms on the boards then sell that to people with arcade machines so they can play? That doesn't sound remotely legal. But as I say, I don't quite get what it is you're suggesting.

No I would be selling a physical EEPROM not a rom file.

Like these

I would provide instructions, nice looking labels, etc for how to swap the chips out on the arcade boards. It's legal for those who own the arcade boards already, and useless for those who don't.

No I don't, that's a bit harder because it's more than just a ROM swap. There is a whole other daughterboard involved, and I can't make those. ;)

I actually need to get a MK1 Board with 3.0 or less on it, I have 5.0 with a different motherboard (T-Unit) that can only go down to 4.0.

I just bought a MK1 3.0 board, I haven't recieved it yet, but I might sell it or trade you for the 5.0 T-unit board.

Hell no! ;) I'd want both, I bought this one for just the reason that it was rarer (seller didn't know) ;)

are you talking about MK Rv9.0 prototype?

Where it plays like MKII with super juggles?

No it's a rom+board hack that makes the game faster, see here:

Okay anyone out there want any copies of the MK2 rom hacks, or the UMK3 Zeus hack? I'm buying the stuff to do this finally, so I can look into doing flashing of chips for other people who want them.

Yes. I have all the MK2 hacks, but I would like the Zeus Hack, as well as any other MK hack rom.

I want to get a PCB for every hack so I just have one board for each game. :)

You know what I want, the stuff thats not on MAME. 3.1 Kombo, Black Ninja, Wavenet MK3, Wavenet UMK3.....maybe 1 day.

Black Ninja? Never heard of that one.

Simple ROM hacks should be EASILY supported by MAME, you can actually force it. Like how you can force Zeus hacks. 3.1 Kombo MK1 is a bit more complicated as there is extra hardware there. So I can't do that for you either.

Wavenets I can't do, no one has the ROMs for it as they are private. If that changes, who knows.

Black Ninja Hack is a MK1 with black backgrounds, I think all you see is the floor and your life bars. Not much is known about it, but id like to play it.

Sounds like it just replaces the backgrounds with no images. If you can find the ROM images, then I can burn them to chip for you. Otherwise I can't do anything it's only rumored to exist. I'm not sure if I have the time to invest into ROM hacking the old arcade games just yet.

I wish, it was never that widely distributed it seems. Maybe one day it'll surface, but until then 1.4 is the best we'll get.

Yeah, back in 1993 I actually got to play a Revision 1.1 at an arcade in Fürstenfeldbruck.

You could tell it was 1.1 because Raiden' 2P costume was always red no matter if it was a mirror match or not. Johnny Cage's 1P costume was always red no matter of mirror match or not. Shang Tsung's 2P costume was always blue same condition as Cage and Raiden. And the rest of the character's 2P side always had the 2P colors regardless of mirror match or not. Oh and also, I saw the test screen when the arcade technician had to reset the machine because of the Sub Zero glitch.

Sadly the one time I played it, it was early on in Chicago. Been forever since I've seen it, most arcades around here upgraded whenever they could fairly quickly.
