Long time Mortal Kombat community member Trash-MKX sent along a report from Wizard World Philly '08, a significant traveling comic convention. In speaking with a representative from DC Comics, we get a unique glimpse into the mindset of DC Comics in their collaboration with Midway Games. Since DC Comics clearly has a defined story mythology, they have their own set of rules they must abide by. Trash-MKX got a good bit of information and filed a report on whatever information he could gather. Included are details on how the storylines are merging, which characters are for sure in the game, and along with other details on consoles and possible Downloadable Content (DLC). Granted this was a source with DC Comics and their people have some say in things, but for the most part their information may not be considered in stone. So, take this info with a grain of salt and with a little bit of suspicion. Here's a snippet.
I asked if the story will be an Elseworlds story or fall in the DCU proper. It will NOT be an Elseworlds story, but don't look for any references about the event in any DC books, besides a very small few, IF that. No MK characters will ever show up in any other DC books, EVER. He said there will not be an issue of Batman with flashbacks on the event or Batman discussing what happened with Robin.
Robin? So he is in the game? I get a big *smirk* and Yes. Add Robin to the list. I then of course asked, which one? Tim Drake? Dick Grayson? Jason Todd? Stephanie Brown? He said the story will take place in the present. So Tim Drake? And he confirmed with a head nod.
I must have named off every MK character and DC character that came to mind to see if he would let me know who else. He said a few are quite obvious on both ends and confirmed the following: Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern (didn't say which GL or Flash but said that doesn't mean there is only one of each in the game) Black Canary, Hawkman and Powergirl.
Midway sends word that they will be producing a podcast for the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Taping starts tomorrow and those putting together the show are soliciting questions on the Official Midway Forums.
Hey MK Fans,
Just wanted to let you know that we are going to start an official MK vs. DCU podcast. While they probably won't air for another few weeks, we are doing our first recording session on Wednesday and wanted to give everyone a chance to throw out some questions to be answered.
Midway sent along a survey to those signed up for their e-mail updates on the WorldsCollide.com website. The survey asked for the following information: "If Midway was to do a Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Kollector's Edition, please vote for you favorite bonus item." While a "kollectors edition" hasn't been formally announced, it is almost a near certainty that there will be one as the "kollectors editions" for past Mortal Kombat games have sold very well. Here are the potential things that could be included as a bonus item in the "kollectors edition."

Midway has released a couple of great looking artwork shots of Gotham City and The Batcave from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. It is pretty shocking to see such a recognizable backdrop in a Mortal Kombat game. The imagination runs wild with these new shots.
Gamespot has posted a great in depth interview with Ed Boon about the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. He covers how the fans and players jumped to conclusions about fatalities not being in the game, and provided the first official clear answer on the question of fatalities.
Gamespot: Have you made any more headway on the fatality versus finishing moves?
Ed Boon: Yes we have. All of the MK characters and all of the DC villains will have fatalities. The DC heroes who don't kill that often will have brutalities that will function just like fatalities but don't actually kill the opponent.
He also gives more back story on working with DC and how fan sites have helped guide development quite a bit. The article also has some great new screenshots, most of which were scanned and uploaded to the internet last week. They feature the first look at the special moves of the DC character. Midway just sent us the same screenshots for publication as well, so you can see them here below.

Earlier this afternoon, fellow Mortal Kombat fan site FDMK, posted up a tiny teaser picture of Batman's on again, off again nemesis Catwoman. But alas, the picture was quickly pulled at request of Midway. While it only displayed her head, our forum member Glamador quickly found what looks like the action figure that appears to be heavily influencing the design of the character in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. She appears to be sporting some goggles and a bluish/purple tinted costume. You can see the action figure image below:
There is much possibility that this is not the final artwork for Catwoman, thus why it was pulled so quickly. However, this is a good sign that she will be appearing in the upcoming game.
