Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks Goes Gold, Not Delayed
Midway has announced that Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (Xbox, PS2) has gone gold and has been released to manufacturing.

Midway Games today announced that the one of the most unique and heavily anticipated Mortal Kombat titles ever, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, has gone gold and will ship to stores for both the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox video game system on September 26th, 2005.

The development team at Midway Studios, Los Angeles, along with the core MK creative team at Midway Studios, Chicago, has joined forces to take the best-selling Mortal Kombat franchise into the action/adventure realm. Mortal Kombat fans can now experience the MK franchise from an entirely new action/adventure perspective with the first-ever Multi-Directional Kombat System and explore the Mortal Kombat II universe as two of the series' favorite Shaolin Monks: Liu Kang & Kung Lao in either single- or multi-player action.

As you can read, Midway's press release contains a ship date of September 26th, which is one week later than previously communicated ship dates from Midway. A quick check of major online game retailers reveals no change from the original ship date of September 19th.

We've got an inquiry into Midway to clarify the ship date. As soon as we get an answer, we will update as soon as possible.

[color=red">UPDATE: Midway sends word that the game's ship date is still September 19th. The one week difference is to account for the time it may take retailers to get the game on to stores shelves; however, in the case of most major retailers, like GameStop, EB Games, Best Buy, etc., the game will most likely be on shelves the next day.
