6:00 PM CST -
Senior Producer, Hans Lo and Associate Producer, Hector Sanchez sit down and talk to the Mortal Kombat fanbase in the first ever "official" MKast. You can download the first installment at the WorldsCollide.com website. Midway will be using this podcast to communicate to the fans and will often release exclusive information. For example, in this episode it was revealed that the DC Universe characters and the Mortal Kombat characters will be able to perform fatalities. The DC Heroes that traditionally don't kill their characters will still have a reward after winning a battle, for example, brutalities. Two new characters are now confirmed: Sonya and Shang Tsung.

There is a lot more information in the "MKast" and you can listen to it here.

Knew Shang Tsung would be in.

I'm still holding out for Shao Kahn and the Joker. I'm happy about Catwoman and Shang Tsung but I'm really really hoping for those two. I mean, I've accepted that a lot of the characters I want in, won't be. So I've set my sights kinda low, I just want those 2. Those 2 is ALL I need. COME ON GUYS. As for the "rock paper scissors" concept...from what he's saying I think that's a really misleading analogy. A rock/paper/scissors type of gameplay would be something like in DBZ Budokai 3 where you have those super-moves where you have to guess which button the opponent hit in order to block it. It seems in MK vs. DCU you can sort of dodge and block, just like usual. It doesn't sound as random as rock/paper/scissors, people shouldn't think of it that way. But you know some noob on Midway Boards will be like "NO WAI! THAT SUX!"

(for MK) Aside from Kabal, its gonna basically be a roster similar to MK1 & MK2.

I have been put off greatly, by the fact that this isn't going to fit into MK canon. I had accepted that it wouldn't fit into DC canon because it's so rich and so many things could be affected. But it would be so easy just to fit it into the MK story, especially with this whole thing being started by a huge magical event, and MKA finishing with a HUGE MAGICAL EVENT. It's like, you'll play through the storyline and everything, awesome things will happen, and it won't be worth anything because it never happened. Why bother even playing? In fact, why bother going to all the trouble of coming up with a story in the first place? The 'alternate universe' thing is bollocks too, it's not gonna be 'Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe', it'll be 'A Universe that kinda looks like MK with similar people but isn't really MK vs. DC Universe'. I don't see a valid reason why it should be non-canon, it just seems like they're covering their backs for all the douches who still won't accept this game could be awesome. I'd join the masses saying that they won't buy this game, but I'd be lying, I'll still buy it. But this whole non-canon thing has upset me greatly, as playing it will just be a huge waste of time.

I, for one, do not want to buy the real MK8 and then see batman's name in it. "I fought Batman in ___ and defeated him". Or ANY DC characters infact. It's just not right.

I was wondering that myself. I imagine they were talking about the word search and all the stuff that was up a while back. We've all obviously lost interest in what it could mean since the official announcement of the game.

I feel exactly the same way. And you don't have to say "Oh remember when I was fighting Batman?". When have they EVER done that!? Certain major events could be alluded to and it could help to develop each character for later on without specifically name-dropping a DC character in a later game. In fact, I don't think they'd be ALLOWED to name-drop due to copyrights and whatnot. I wanted this to be MK Canon. But if you notice, the guys in the MKast were sort of vague about it. They said it does take into account the backstory and character of all the MK guys. All they really said was it doesn't "fit in" any place in the MK Canon, like it isn't between game X and game Y.

I just think it would more make sense that this "cataclysmic" event that merges the universes be armageddon.
July 4th, 2008 11:06 AM CST - Tim Static
IMO, who cares if this whole event falls in with the MK storyline at all? The storyline was shot straight to hell with MK:A, thus ruining what was a GREAT storyline from MK1 to MK:D.

I completely agree for once. They had a good thing going up to MKD. Which is why I sort of wanted to see them kinda salvage the story with this game. I think this game will have the best story that MK has seen in recent memory, but it kind of hurts that I won't be able to think of it as part of the story once this is all over.

I liked the MKA story, it was fresh and provided a new start, which is what they were going for
