Mortal Kombat III (PC version) FAQ By: Ratman (rat@rat.org) <---- Send additions/corrections here. FAQ Revision 7 (January 5, 1996) Q: If this is a FAQ, then where are the questions and answers? A: This is really just a list of moves, fatalities, animalities. But "FAQ" has become a very loose term these days. Q: Do you know about [insert move/code here]? A: If it's not in this FAQ, I don't know it. If you email me asking if I know how to do something that isn't on this FAQ, I will ignore you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- What's New (changes since the previous revision of the FAQ) ----------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 972-843 - Fast Timer (30 seconds.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Distribution --------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- FTP: rat.org /pub/mk/faqs/mk3ratpc.v# (where # is the revision) FTP: rat.org /pub/mk/faqs/mk3rat20.v# (where # is the revision) WWW: http://rat.org/mk/mk3ratpc.faq WWW: http://rat.org/mk/mk3rat20.faq - for the arcade FAQ. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- What's not in here ---------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The PC version appears to be modeled after 2.1. So anything that works in the arcade verison 2.1 will work. ** See the FAQ for the arcade version for most things, like Fatalities. ** Joystick moves: I don't have one, so there's no way I can include it. There are 4 buttons on a joysick, and they doubled up some of the buttons. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special things -------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- VS. screen codes On the VS screen (in 2 player mode), you can cycle through the 6 symbols by hitting LP, Block, and LK on both sides. Cycle backwards by hitting UP and the button. The numbers are the number of times you hit the button. Key (number is number of times you hit the button): --- 0 MK Dragon 5 Lightning Bolt 1 MK Logo 6 Goro 2 Yin-Yang 7 Raiden 3 Number three 8 Shao Kahn 4 Question Mark 9 Skull * All the codes from the arcade version work. Here are some that only work on the PC version. 239-494 - Sweeping Disabled 101-000 - Player 1 Healing Enabled 000-101 - Player 2 Healing Enabled 303-303 - Both Players Healing Enabled 202-000 - Player 1 Weakening Enabled 000-202 - Player 2 Weakening Enabled 404-404 - Both Players Weakening Enabled 552-000 - Player 1 Double Damage (takes double damage, not gives) 000-552 - Player 2 Double Damage (takes double damage, not gives) 334-000 - Player 1 Half Damage (takes half damage) 000-334 - Player 2 Half Damage (takes half damage) 552-255 - Both Players Double Damage 334-433 - Both Players Half Damage 972-279 - Timer Disabled 348-279 - Slow Timer (110 seconds. Normally it's 60 seconds) 972-843 - Fast Timer (30 seconds.) 978-243 - Short Match Combines Weakening for both players Double damage for both players Slow timer 342-879 - Long Match Combines Healing for both players Half damage for both players Fast timer --------------------------------------- Command-line codes To use one of these codes, put it as an argument to mk3 when you run mk3.exe For example, instead of just typing "mk3" to run the game, type "mk3 666" You can combine codes too. "mk3 666 1995" If possible, the offical name of the code is listed in all caps. 666 - SMOKECODE Enables smoke (0666 also works) 1995 - GHOSTCODE (players are transparent) 831 - Noob Saibot mode (players are shadows) 9966 - FLIPXCODE (players are facing the wrong way) 8000 - TURBOMODECODE (Gameplay is sped up) 603015 - slow code (Gameplay is slowed down) 8888 - FATCODE (players are expanded horizontally) 1111 - SKINNYCODE (players are shrunk horizontally) 12345 - TALLCODE (players are expanded vertically) 54321 - SHORTCODE (players are shrunk vertically 4862222 - If you hit block, you will lose almost all your energy. 1000000 - Enables Shao Kahn and Motaro to be playable. 2 player mode only. I know these are not numbers, but they work. Just type it as you see it. "mk3 BLOOD" for example. Also they don't have to be in all caps. These codes say in effect until you turn them off. This means even if you quit the game and run mk3 normally, they are still in effect. NOBLOOD - Turns off blood until you turn it back on. BLOOD - Turns blood back on. NOVIOLENCE - Turns off fatalities until you turn it back on. VIOLENCE - Turns on fatalties. Blood must also be on for fatalities to work. --------------------------------------- Tricks - If you hit escape, it quits the current match. If you do this, then start another game, you will be on the same stage. The same goes for if you lose a game, and hit start (HP) before it asks you to (just start tapping HP right after you lose). Good for seeing the pit fatality over and over again. --------------------------------------- Tournament mode - This is similar to Endurance in MK1. - Cycle though chacters with right/left - Move between the squares with up/down - Random select is up-punch while the default square is hilighted. This will randomly pick characters for all 9 squares. - One or Two players. This is not like Tournament mode in UMK3. - Most of Tournament is pretty obvious. Just try it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Characters ------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Only things unique to the PC version listed. Shang Tsung --------------------------------------- Morph to Sonya: R-BL-LP Smoke --------------------------------------- Fatality (sweep): Hold BL (D-D-F-U) Sonya --------------------------------------- Fatality (more than half screen): Hold BL (U-U-B-D) Subzero --------------------------------------- Slide: B+LP+LK (that's BACK, not BLOCK) Shao Kahn --------------------------------------- Fireball: B-B-F-LP Hammer: B-F-HP Shoulder: F-F-LP Upward shoulder: F-F-HP Point finger: D-D-LK Laugh: D-D-HK Motaro --------------------------------------- Fireball: F-D-B-HP Teleport: D-U Grab and smash: F-F-LP Tail trip: B+LK (sweep) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits --------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - I stole most of this from Worknman's FAQ (codum@brazosport.cc.tx.us) Hell, I belong on the BS page for this one. - I got many of the codes from GT Interactive's web site http://www.globalnews.com/cgi-bin/sidney/mk3/mk3.cgi
