Our disdain for Microsoft's backwards compatibility procedures has been expressed very publicly on our site. With the initial release of the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility profile supporting Mortal Kombat: Deception and then having it be abruptly removed due to major rendering errors, Mortal Kombat fans are left without any games working on the Xbox 360.

This drought continues through on to the most recent Mortal Kombat game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. While Midway is well aware that a good majority of Mortal Kombat fans are extremely frustrated with the lack of backwards compatibility support on the Xbox 360 for Mortal Kombat games, the game publisher claims to have no say in whether their games make the compatibility list or not. The work is being done by Microsoft and is it up to their team to decide where to spend their efforts in adding more games to the lineup.

With many popular games not on the list, the most recent success anyone has had in recommending an addition to the list is <a href="http://www.doublefine.comDouble Fine Production's Psychonauts. After the game's fabled creator, Tim Schaffer, put out a plea to the gaming community to e-mail Microsoft in order to help his game get on the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list, Microsoft responded with their BC team confirming that they will start working on the title.

If similar actions were taken, perhaps the Mortal Kombat community can band together and put some pressure on Microsoft in order to get the BC team to pay more attention to Mortal Kombat games, namely Armageddon. Therefore, some of the top Mortal Kombat sites have banded together and have created a joint petition to include past and future Xbox Mortal Kombat games on Xbox 360 and have the names sent to Microsoft. The petition has been orgainzed by Mortal Kombat Online and is joined by Dave's Mortal Kombat, Total Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Outworld, and Kamidogu.

Click here to petition Microsoft to add backwards compatibility support for Mortal Kombat games on Xbox 360.

Hopefully, these efforts will catch the attention of Microsoft and Xbox 360 owners will be able to play their Xbox Mortal Kombat games on their new console. Let's show that the TRMK community is behind this effort in full support.

Updated!
digg users be sure to go and digg this story on digg to increase the petition's visibility.

Re: Send Microsoft Flaming Skulls On MK 360 Back Compatibility

i dont get it, they are PS2/xbox games. Playing them on the xbox360 doesnt do anything but give you a wireless controller. I dont see what the big fuss is about? I know MS promised something and then decided to take it away for some games, but face it, its not an xbox. You think anyone that has an xbox 360 doesnt have a ps2 or xbox? come on, just play them on the systems they were made for. Thats what i say.

Some people don't have a regular Xbox after they got a Xbox 360, like I have two but one is not online-worthy so I can't play online with it. Some also may never had bought an original Xbox and want to play the games on the 360.

I signed it. Microsoft originally promised us this backward compatability thing, and they need to follow through with it instead of telling us we don't want it.

I still have my XBOX, some people are too quick to update their systems as such. So I agree with 7th on this one. Infact at this point in time the XBOX is still a great online gaming console. the 360 will come into its own sooner or later as far as online gaming is concerned. I for one am not among the "OMGZ I must have a 360 and like right now!" I could have bought one months ago, but I will wait for the price drop [screw MS, lol]

As for the backwards compatibility issues, that's Microsft for you. Promising the world and then dribbling afterwards.

The whole thing smells of "Bill Gates Laziness" ya know.

Lol.

Hopefully we get enough petition signings and Microsoft will take notice and do something about it.

On a side note, wouldn't it have been nice to mention that Mortal Kombat Online organised the whole thing, and you're working in collaboration with other sites to achieve this goal? :hmmmm:

Doesn't mean squat, dude. Didn't you hear? Bill Gates is buying the Moon when he retires early in 2008. Why would he care about backwards compatibility for MKA when he can't even play the damn thing? He has enough money to build 1000 condominiums around Lake Armstrong [on the moon] Once there, he is also is having a huge criogenic facility and cloning plant made. Then when he is about to kick the bucket, he will be cloned and put into suspended animation. In 1000 years the Moon will be infested with Bill Gates. Much like Agent Smith in the Matrix Revolutions movie

True that, man.

Did you forget to read the whole article?

I signed it for the hell of it, but I'd be surprised if it bore any fruit. The MK games were good seller on the Xbox, but they were platinum sellers on Sony's camp.

Then again, judging from what's been on the list of b/c games, that's not their criteria of deciding what goes in there; ease of emulation is more like it.

Either way, I'm playing an upscaled to 1080i version of the game later on. Be it on the 360, or PS3.

Bah! Im Stranded in Canada without access to my X-box and were renting an X-box 360 while were were here.

I recommend all users who haven't signed this yet to be sure to sign this. Lets make this as big as possible.

I sold my xbox for my 360. I wouldve assumed that they wouldve made a 360 version of MKA only with slightly sharper graphics but BC is the next best thing.

Anyways why not just sign even if you dont have a 360 the more people that have means the more people to play on Live.
