It's been a full week since the release of Mortal Kombat (2011), arguably one of the best fighting game of this generation of consoles. Since then, a lot of information - along with a fair share of misinformation - has been revealed. Here is a recap of what TRMK offers for your all your fatality and unlocking needs.
The first place you need to head out to is our Mortal Kombat (2011) Moves Guide. Also, for those who don't have a computer or smartphone close to their couch, we also feature a handy Printable Moves Guide. We have every single special move, stage fatality, fatality and the elusive secret babality.
Klassic Costumes and Fatalities
Each character has two fatalities each, with exception to the following characters: Reptile, Scorpion, Sub-Zero. These male ninja characters have a third "klassic" fatality that is unlocked when you enter the PSN or Xbox Live redemption code obtained when you pre-ordered the game at Amazon.com, GameStop and Best Buy respectively for now. The motions to perform these fatalities are listed in our Mortal Kombat (2011) Moves Guide. You do NOT have to wear that character's classic costume to perform the "klassic" fatality.
As of today, the only way that you can perform these "klassic" fatalities is via the redemption code. If you didn't manage to buy 3 separate copies of the game from all of the aforementioned retailers, fear not. The "klassic" costumes and fatalities will be available shortly. As for now, they are retailer exclusives. We don't know exactly when they'll be released, but we do know they are coming.
Krypt Guide
All characters' alternate costumes are unlockable in the krypt or by beating the arcade ladder with that character. Don't want to randomly spend your "koins" on finding these costumes? Check out our Mortal Kombat (2011) Krypt Guide where we've cataloged every koffin for your spending needs. Remember to head to the Nekropolis after you unlock the alternate costume and select the character to enable the costume.
Babalities
These finishing moves are all performed at jump distance during the standard fatality time. It is also important to note, however, that there is a single restriction. You cannot block an attack during the match. You can tap the block button as much as you like, even use it during the fatality input time. But as soon as you block an attack, you cannot perform the babality.
Boss Babalities
Also, another easter egg is that babalities can be performed on bosses in the arcade ladder. Those bosses include unique babies for Goro, Kintaro and even Shao Kahn. From what we can figure out you need to be set on Medium difficulty and higher, but need to keep the rounds at 2 and time set to 90 seconds. To get Goro, Kintaro and Shao Kahn you need to perform a babality on every fighter in the arcade ladder up until Shang Tsung. You also can NOT lose a match, you can lose a round but never a match. Look to our Mortal Kombat (2011) Tips & FAQs section once we've narrowed down the criteria even further.
Tournament Edition Arcade Stick Buttons
For those who have the Mortal Kombat (2011): Tournament Edition Arcade Stick and have not gone through tutorial mode, you can perform X-Ray Attacks by hitting the Front Kick + Block + Back Kick (Xbox 360: A+RT+B or PS3: X+R2+O) attacks at the same time when your power meter is full. Throws can also be done by hitting both the Front Punch + Front Kick (Xbox 360: A+X or PS3: X+Square) attacks at the same time. No need to use the smaller buttons at the top of the stick.
Hidden Fighters (Secret Achievements)
There are four hidden character fights that you can find in the arcade ladder. Smoke, Noob, Reptile and Jade.
Smoke: Smoke is hiding in the Living Forest. When he peeks out behind a tree, hit the Back or Select Button and you'll fight him immediately in his klassic costume.
Reptile: When you see silhouettes fly across the moon in The Pit stage, you must win with a Double Flawless and perform the Stage Fatality.
Noob: In The Temple stage - the one with a priest over a body on the alter and featuring colored stained glass windows - when you see Noob standing next to the alter in the background, you must win the match without blocking an attack.
Jade: As far as Jade's battle, we think we finally figured out the criteria with the help of Jason from MKBible. What you need to do is defeat Shang Tsung with Double Flawless after meeting certain criteria. The criteria is as follows: lose no MATCHES before Shang Tsung, perform a minimum of 3 Fatalities before Goro/Kintaro and have a minimum of three Flawless Victories before your Double Flawless on Shang Tsung for a total of 5. It's no easy feat, but you'll be so happy once you get that achievement!
Detailed instructions on how to find these hidden character fights will be available in our Mortal Kombat (2011) Tips & FAQs section.
