    Organ Donors

So everyone knows what is is to register yourself as an organ donor is right? If you kick the bucket, your organs can be removed and be used by someone else. Well, only 42% of Americans are registered organ donors so the state of New Jersey might take action to help change this.

They might lower the insurance coverage for those who are not registered donors. Do you think this is a good action? Obviously, if you are not a registered donor in NJ you probably won't be happy but the fact is that people are dying and their organs are being unused while someone out there really needs them.

I COMPLETELY agree with this plan because it will save a large amount of lives. If you're dead, you don't need your organs anymore. Give them up to someone who desperately needs them. What do you think?

I've always been kind of paranoid on this issue.
What's to say that if I should be critically injured, that they won't help to the best of their abilities, because I have good usable organs?

Woah you're saying the Doctor won't put in their best effort because a part of him/her kinda wants you to die?

    That's some conspiracy stuff.

    Wow.....

Anyway, when you're dead, I don't know why people care if their organs are donated....you wont be needing them so why not?

A girl has just gone through a successful double lung transplant in Toronto. She had lung disease and now, she has a second chance at life. They have to monitor her, of course, and she is on life support and such, but they believe she will get through it. The donor didn't need their organs and now this girl is alive because of it. Everyone should do it.

    Re: Organ Donors

I agree with the donation of organs after someone's death. It may be weird for the relatives of the deceased person because it's like taking a piece of their body. But their dead and that is what matters. Their dead organs may give someone else a second chance of living, and that should be worth enough.

So you would let someone die just because you have this retarded paranoid vision?

Even if they did some weird shit with your organs, you'll be dead, you wont care....

I would rather take the chance to donate and help someone who is suffering get another chance to live life and enjoy it.

    Re: Organ Donors

I am an organ donor, and totally agree with it but it is against the religion for some folks, which is understandable. My grandpa donated his entire body to science, which I will most likely do as well.

He isn't worried about what they do after he is dead. He's worried about what's going on just before it.

I also have a paranoia of doctors not trying their best if you're on the Organ Donor list. But at the same time, I know that it's a stupid mindset to follow through.

Sometime in the near future, I'll be on that list. That's for sure.

    Re: Organ Donors

I'm a donor, and I got to witness the impact it has on others when my father in law died. He was a donor too, and a few months after he passed away, I visited my mother in law to see how she was holding up, only to find her sitting at the kitchen table reading a letter while tearing up. I thought maybe she found an old love letter or something that reminded her of him, but it was a letter sent to her from the donation people passed along by the family of the person who received the donation and how it helped their lives. His heart went to a teenager, and parts of his eyes went to someone in their 60s who had some sort of injury/disease that caused blindness. Someone can see again because of him, and the impact of knowing that while your loved one is gone he/she still managed to help others is just overwhelmingly awesome.

    Re: Organ Donors

I am an organ donor. Maybe I can help someone get a second chance when I pass away.

That being said, letting a seriously injured person die or killing them just to harvest organs is unethical in my view.

You know, I don't necessarily agree with Araknyd either, but I wouldn't go as far as to disrespectfully trash him by saying his view is retarded. Bad show.

I think that for the most part, you can trust a doctor to work as hard as possible to save someone, and it's probably in a very small fringe of situations that the question would even come to play. I think in those extenuating circumstances, it might be the influence of the black market organ trade rather than one doctor devaluing one patient's life over the life of others. That is a somewhat reasonable suspicion, maybe.

Jade didn't say it to him insultingly.

She doesn't mean he's retarted, she just means the paranoia is a bit silly because you're giving up the chance of saving someone's life. The doctor could want to work to the best of his ability but Arakynd could still pass on and the 12 year old kid dying because of organ failure now has another chance at life. If Araknyd lives, they can still get the kid someone else's organ. Maybe if the kid is the doctor's son or something he may not work as hard but otherwise I think he will do to the best of his ability.

It is a fear, but that doesn't mean that I'm not grateful for the people who ARE organ donors.
    Quite the opposite, in fact.
I've known people that have gone on to live healthy lives, due to a donor.
    Much respect.

Just like the people who serve this country.
I'm not about to go out and join the military, but I'm very thankful for people like TaBB and my 2 cousins, who do.

Hospitals and Funeral Homes are just about the 2 places that freak me out the most.
Even at my grandfather's funeral (and I loved my grandpa LOTS), I couldn't stay inside for more than 15 minutes at a time, during the viewing, because I would go into a panic attack, start sweating bullets and just really uncomfortable.

    EDIT:

Mind you, this was when I was 15 years old, and had been doing Tae Kwon Do for 8 years.
I was not out of shape, and I still felt like I wanted to pass out.

lol, kinda funny coming from you, Freyith, considering the amount of insults you throw out whenever someone doesn't see things your way :/

I use words to describe things that really aren't the proper words to be used. When I say 'that's retarded', it's just my way of saying 'that's a little warped' (pertaining to this case). It wasn't meant as any kind of insult, I just find it a little crazy that someone would be so paranoid of what happens to their organs after they are dead. I know I certainly wont be caring about my organs when I am dead.

EDIT: Shira got it, thank you =)
