He's the guitarist for his namesake band, Montrose, and although Montrose never really gained much mainstream success, they remain a legendary band in the hard rock/heavy metal community to this day. The band's first two albums were also notable for having the "Red Rocker" Sammy Hagar on vocals, who went onto bigger fame as both a solo artist and the frontman of Van Halen.
