The release date is said to be Spring according to WB Games UK on Twitter.

There isn't many details, but the press release had this quote from Ed Boon about it. To us it makes it sound like it's a port of Mortal Kombat (2011) with specialized Vita features instead of a new game. This would make sense because the game's Unreal Engine 3 will run on the PS Vita.

The NetherRealm team is committed to making sure that we follow up the success of 2011's Mortal Kombat with an equally compelling experience on the PlayStation Vita. The original game content and new features we developed for the PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experience available on the new mobile platform." - Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios

One interesting point of note, is that they say the game is going to be playable at the Vita preview Vita Hill Social Clubs which are opening across the US today. I have received word that the game will not be there starting today, but to stay tuned to the PlayStation Blog for more details on when it and other new Vita games will be available to play before the Vita launches on February 22nd, 2012.

What "specialized Vita features?"
Also, is THIS the 3rd "surprise"?

Let's start a wishlist thread lol

Exclusive kharacters? UMK3 ninja costumes? New game mode?

The X-Ray will probably be performed by sliding your finger across the rear touch pad.
I'm getting the Vita just for this game!

If it's just a port of MK9, I'll pass. I'll still purchase the game for my collection, but not the Vita.

If it a brand new MK game, then February is going to be one expensive month.

This is fantastic news!! Well done Ed and his team!! I cat wait to buy a Vita now just for this!!! I bet it is even better than the console versions. Only a few weeks till the Vita in the UK, i cant wait, i really cant wait!

Hmmm, I wish I just waited and got a vita instead of a 3DS. I guess I'll have to be an owner of vita as well now.

Its all good, since I haven't gotten into this mortal kombat 9, I'll get into it with the vita.

With this, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Street Fighter x Tekken and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 coming out for Vita, I'm really considering getting one

I hope it has some cool features

I hope the extra content of this version is enough to guarantee a purchase. As much as I love MK9, portability alone isn't enough to make me wanna get it.

Just some more disappointing news:) Boon and co really like to re-release the same thing more and more time. And when we thrill expecting something new, they re-release it once again. Of course, i didn't even expect MK10 will come this winter, but at least - a short PSN game, new Mythologies or something. :) What's the point in these "Komplete Editions" as everyone who was interested, already bought all DLCs in summer. :)

I really already planned to buy Vita especially for a new MK. Buying a new console for a pair of klassic costumes? I will not.

Me is very sad. :bunny: :)

Sub-Zera, we don't even know what this is supposed to be yet

It could be a port of MK9 with some "added features", but that's only speculation at this point; it could also be something different

Gimme different menu and character selection art, 2 new characters, playable bosses, Male MK2 and UMK3 costumes for the ninjas, MK2's missing costume for Mileena, a new game mode (or maybe "choose your destiny" ladders) and I'm sold.

Asking too much? Maybe, yeah... but wanting some of us to buy a game twice is also asking too much IMO.

New Challenge Tower!!!

Ed Boon: The fundamental necessity is quick access to gameplay, whether it’s online or locally. The mobile gaming experience is shorter bites of time. We identified the Challenge Tower as a perfect fit for mobile sessions, so we expanded it greatly for PS Vita. There are actually two Challenge Towers in the PS Vita version, and the new one has 150 challenges that are exclusive to PS Vita. A number of those challenges use PS Vita’s hardware features: the touch screen, the accelerometer. [...] In terms of gameplay, we’ve always wanted MK to be as accessible as possible. For example, you can touch your X-ray meter to execute an X-ray attack. For fatalities, you can “slash” the screen with the appropriate inputs — say, away, away, up — to execute the fatality. It makes some of the more difficult fatalities easier and it’s fun to slash at your screen to fire off a fatality. I was surprised by how engaging it is.

Color me interested. Hoping to hear more :)
