Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

Ah ok, didn't factor in the improved frame rate. Thanks for explaining.

It will be close to the original frames if I use the same frame rate and trace them with the model. If we are doing more frames than the original games, the 3D software will create the in between frames automatically. That turns out looking very robotic if left alone, extra detail needs to be added to every animation by hand to make the transitions look more natural.

It's hard to make them look natural by imagination alone, that's why I record my self doing them first from different angles.

The different angles help even if not adding extra frames.

You know I tried to make the blood look thicker, but it started to look, too cartoony to me. Guilty as charged on the cloning. It's a photoshop brush.

Looks pretty good although some of the blood looks repetitive like you used a cloning tool on it. Like second column from the left third row down. OK really only that one spot. I also think the blood could be a little darker but that's just me. The color is probably fine. In a way though I think the blood looks a little too much like paint like it could be more gooey\thick especially at the bottom where it collects.

Also out of curiousity are you rounding the tops of those buildings as if they are the tops of middle eastern buildings? Because they are pagodas and those are supposed to be more angular.

Real good progress though keep up the good work.. and if you feel it's too much work you can skip what I said above. Others may find how that looks just fine.

Also I'm not rounding out the buildings but the moon light is probably a bit too dominate creating that effect. I'll tone that done.

Ok I'm missing the Barrilette (I call it a kite.) and the zepplin or rocket.

i think there are 6, not 5 ;) i'll post them tomorrow.

santa, peter pan, witch, rocket, zeppelin, and a keg. i don't know if the translation of the lastone is fine, used google translator to know how spelled "barrilete" in english :p. is like this: http://rotafolio.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/barrilete.jpg

the last 2 days i was (and still) "fighting" with a virus. because of that i can't connect internet
i'll try to found a solution ASAP. i can't even re-install the OS, it's a netbook and the virus don't let me use the recover tool...
i can work in the project with my desktop computer (without internet at home) but i can't post as often as before :(

great work on the pit/pit bottom!!

One more thing, I noticed that there is a light cloud on the right side of the screen that should be darker. I think that's where the moon used to be.

What I do is act the moves out on video and use it as reference along with the classic sprites. That's another thing people can help with, reference video of the motions.
You probably know about this, it's been on youtube for about a year now I believe. It's videos of some of the capture sessions from the original MK. Don't know if it's going to be of any help but here goes:

Love the comment on one of these: "This is like footage of Leonardo da Vinci painting the Mona Lisa" :)

On the other hand it's OK to not make it look TOO realistic as I mean what are the blood sprites that fly off the characters going to look like? The blood in MK always looked rather cartoony... and part of the character of the game is how the blood spurts when you uppercut someone or something looked. I was just thinking about that and it was giving me second thoughts on suggesting the blood be made too realistic looking in the bg.

Ok another update. Just about all comments address regarding blood, spike placement, ground texture so on and so forth.

Also as a bonus, I wanted to show the Peter Pan Silo.

This is what I have to say about this:

Hey guys, I've got something for you all -

mk1hdssbase.png

I recreated the select screen as pixel perfect as time allows, and am fully capable of handling the rest of the UI including menus, tower, versus screen, endings etc. After that I can work on all in-game text.

The main thing left to do on the SS though is the character icons, I can recreate the backgrounds but not the characters, so perhaps someone else can just lay the 3D model versions over them once I'm done. Just another thing, I remade the original dragon logo for the SS instead of the regular one, because IMO it stays more true to the game - but I do have another version with the regular dragon if that's the general preference.

Anyway I don't have enough time now to write everything I want to about this project, so I'll make a follow up post tomorrow. Feedback please! :)

Good stuff man, here is the original select screen just for comparison;

xe4ras.jpg

it's upscaled to 720 but with the original aspect ratio of 1.57

Few things about your recreation jarvis653, I think the texture in the down left corner of the photo is a bit blurry (below J.Cage), also the shadows on the dragon could be a bit stronger to set him apart more from the background in the circle (the back of his neck in particular) But that's just me, others may find it just fine. Anyways good work.

After seeing both select screens, I think the HD version should lighten up the stone and/or reduce the prominence of the texture. The stone background is almost distracting with too much going on, averting my eyes away from the characters. I also feel that the dragon's background in particular is especially too dark.

Yes, even better than what I was saying. Make the circle background a bit lighter to go along with the background around the circle, but keep the shadows on the dragon and see what it looks like.

Sorry to disappoint you, but we already have someone who is done with all of the UI and menus. Even though what you did is not bad, someone already has all of it done. Thank you for your contribution, though.

Next time though, before posting anything, make sure you look through previous pages of the thread so you know what is done and what is not. Again, sorry, but all of the UI and menus are done and completed by Badmouse.

Already all done? Wow. I thought I read all the pages of this thread too. Gues I missed it, gone searching...

They are all done, but not all of them are posted here. They are given to the programmer. We don't wanna give everything away so you don't have a surprise to look forward to. ;)

Not bad, in fact those first bodies look quite good! I still think that obviously cloned blood part should be fixed but I'm liking it! The other arm the darker one that is further away looks like it's jutting out at an awkard angle though... I don't think it broke off or anything. Almost looks like it's jutting from the person's head.
