Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

Well, even though we're not there yet, I found out where Liu Kang's background ending image came from. It was the classic Bruce Lee film Enter the Dragon.

This came from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN1Vy2hmPmc (though probably not the exact frame found in the clip).

Compare this to Liu Kang's ending image, you can see the MK team basically ripped it straight from the film.

I'm thinking that when the time comes we might want to get a screenshot of this scene straight from the Blu-Ray of the film so it can be made with the highest definition image possible.

EDIT: Just to drive the point home I put together an animated gif, overlaying Liu Kang's ending over the original scene from the movie:

Wow... That looks like the exact scene for sure... to the left of Liu looks to be the same crowd as just under the yellow flag on the left side.... LIke they just cut out the actors and clipped the crowd together using Liu as a way to hide the seem.
 
I knew I should've posted an ETD comparison shot sooner, as I've also caught that :-p However, the shot behind Liu in the first ending photo is when Lee chases Han into the armory at the end of "the big battle" before their one on one.
 
Fester, good point. So a more accurate synthesis of LK's ending pic from MK1 and the scene from Enter the Dragon would be like this:

I'll look into getting a Blu-Ray disc later on so that it can be used in-game (the quality from YouTube is unacceptable) but now we at least know where to go to find the source material for when the time comes.

Can you find this scene for us and post it? It would be hugely helpful to the project.

I've changed all the sprites except HP and LP, I'll probably change it today.
This last week I was working very hard in my new gaming venue, today I'll be streaming MK9 casual matches with great players!

I believe the Enter The Dragon image was mentioned a long time ago on here. Clearly, we see that Liu Kang is Bruce Lee by looking at the costume.
 
I already resized and squeezed the image a bit to fit the original as close as I could (in resolution fit for this project) So if you want to put this one in the game you only have to crop what's inside red square. But the quallity is not that good. It's a BluRay rip of the movie, it'd be much better if someone has the movie on the acutal BluRay disc, uncompressed.

There's actually a 40th anniversary blu-ray coming out this summer with a new transfer, so we could wait for that. Although I do have the previous blu-ray that I could rip the shot.
 
Learning so much history about how the original game was made, via these types of posts, is almost as fun as watching you guys recreate it!!

It great to know that you have a few models from a few different games. At least you will have them when you need them if you guys get around to MK2&3 HD.
 
Bleed, looks amazing! I just thinking about how cool it is going to look if you follow the same workflow that with Cage!

You made many chars of MK in the past. All them with a similar render that Cage will be INSANE! Specially Baraka.
