I'm looking at it now and his hand holding the sword, is too long and out of proportion. I'll fix that.

Better. Two things jump out at me though:

First, his arm holding the spear looks broken or bent oddly, since we can't really make out where his elbow is and if it is bent.

Second, perhaps less wrinkles? Right now it looks like he's wearing a robe that has been balled up on the floor fro a few days. :D

It's already a huge improvement though.

@BLEED:

Post that thing when you can! Your UMK3 stuff is great!

I think others have been critiquing it very well such as:

I still it looks a little too much ilke when someone draws over an ill defined original picture since it was so slow res and thusly blown up and so it was hard to find the boundaries.

Personally I prefer the look of the robes on this one and I think the spear looks more authentic (yours looks more like a giant arrow) although the colors may not be totally right on it and the person put the wrong kind of sword:

Also to be honest since it's a cosmetic detail I don't feel sticking slavishly to the outline of the original is totally necessary.

It'd probably help if someone who had a japanese robe or something wore it and posed similarly and took a pic. :)

...is it weird that I want to buy parachute pants after seeing this? lol

It looks good tho! For the most part the issues are minor and the main two seem to be the hands and the staff arm which kind of looks like the bagginess of the outfit is just throwing it off - his elbow could totally be bent in there and the puffy costume is making it seem straight while the wrist appears to be bent at a 90 degree. But I get what you guys are saying.

I'll fix the issues with the spear arm. LOL at the parachute pants critique, that made me laugh.

Please don't take offense when I say that example you showed, spear and all looks terrible to me. It's just my opinion. I agree though if we could get someone to pose in a robe similar that would be ideal.

My point was that it looked more natural in regards to the cloth whereas yours looks more like someone took a guess looking at a low res vaguely defined original and sculpted it with polymer clay.

Also I think your spear still looks more like an arrow or something like that rather than what it should be which is a yari or double edged naginata.. examples:

That last pic reminds me that you could probably look up samurai robes as a reference examples:

I think you need to lean away from the sprite, because IMO it's hurting your end result.

First thing I would try is sketching a nude character in the pose. Next mold the costume so it lays on a more natural form. This may fix the distortion of his arms.

Next gather many pictures for similar clothing and mold the wrinkles according to that, as a loose guide.

The arms and chest are looking strange to me.

Arms = broken
Chest = It just looks messy/sloppy, it's hard to tell what's going on there.
Cloth = too bunched up

I would go all out and not worry about messing it up, save a copy and just try something different.

Hmm, perhaps I'll come back to it at another point in time. Right now, I'm frustrated by it. I do see what you are saying. I'll just keep trying until I get it or until someone else wants to give it a shot.

Justin, your courtyard music was epic! :) Very tribal at the end, loved it

By the way, did Mortal Gojira ever give you guys his Goro model?

I agree completely with Bleed's critique of the guard model. It looks kind of like a cardboard cutout with cloth draped over it, as opposed to a person wearing a tailored outfit.

In other news, I've finally got my computer set up at home now, which means I'm at least theoretically able to work on some graphics for this project. :p I'm not sure exactly what I would like to put my attention towards to begin with (was thinking of trying to make a sculpt of Rich Divizio, we'll see), but if the guard keeps giving you problems, calactyte, it's not impossible that I could try my hand at it.

Been working on my UMK3 model this week, adding some animations. Just a heads up, I do jump around a lot.
Bleed, where we can follow your UMK3 project ?

I post my stuff on youtube if there's anything worth showing. I got his full axe combo working now, so by next week there may be a new vid on it.

I'm not making UMK3 though, my game play is way different.

Sorry AntrAcsA... I live in Sofia, but I don't speak Bulgarian. I'm from Sweden originally, just moved here about two months ago. I think "Zdravei" is about the only part I could understand. x)
