I just wanted to take some time to talk about the MK9 fatalities. Not your usual "all fatalities are just generic limb amputations" but how NRS have made them so accessible and practically killed them.
I used to play the old games when I was younger, mostly MK Trilogy. Now, being that I was young, I didn't really understand the game, I would pick a character, button bash and get my rectum promptly handed back to me by the "Novice" CPU. Following my defeat, or the odd win from me, I'd hear "Finish Him!", Now this gave me goosebumps because I knew potentially what was about to follow, a glorious visual that would involve one character completely obliterating the other, usually involving loads of blood and about 15 sets of rib cages. The only thing was, when I won the round and I was told to "Finish Him!", I'd look at my bit of paper with the fatality codes, just as I'm about to input the code ... BAM! YOU WIN! I'd waited too long, my opponent died by lack of excitement. I never did land a fatality in the old games, not once, no Brutality, Animality, Babality, nothing but I always found them amazing when, usually, the computer performed one on me.
So now I'm years older and I'm playing MK9. I'm a lot better then I used to be and I kind of understand fighting games a bit more, I pick a character, if I win the fight, I do a fatality and that's it, rinse and repeat. I'm love seeing all these fatalities that I'm pulling off with no beads of sweat running, no tears of frustration, just easy finger strokes. A little too easy, perhaps?
I feel like NRS have ruined fatalities, purely because they are so easy. If you search in google, MK/2/3 fatalities, you will get a list of button commands that might look something like this (Back, Down, Forward, Forward, High Kick) and if you search MK9 fatalities you will get something like (Down, Down, Back, Forward, 2), not much difference, right? But when you consider the old games gave you a couple of seconds to land your fatality, which pretty much gave you one chance to get it right, otherwise, no fatality. If you win a fight on MK9, it's like your given a whole new round to hit a fatality, bit of an exaggeration but, you should not be able to travel to the end of the screen, back to me, jump over me, "T-bag" for 10 minutes, jump back over me and THEN start your fatality.
Now before anyone thinks this thread is a moan at people who **** around when it says "Finish Him!", this is purely about the fatality timer. Don't you think that, if the timer were shorter, the fatalities would get more love because they wouldn't be so frequent. I feel like they are ruined because they are so easy to perform.
